Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. I expected more recipes, and less explanation of healthy, plant-based eating.

This is not just a book, it is a tome. I wish it existed when I was researching a plant-based diet years ago, because all the work is right here. If you want the skimmed basics, this might not be your thing. But if you want all the details, and especially if you have children and are adapting their diet to be WFPB, this is a great resource. It addition to loads of science, you will find plenty of recipes here to build confidence and get you started.

This is not a book of recipes. It is a well-balanced and evidence based examination of a plant-based diet for families. It lays out the pros and cons in a clear and direct manner in addition to explaining the different types and degrees of plant-based diets from raw vegan to flexitarian. It also includes an examination of how our diets impact the environment as well as our individual health. Children's health and a plant-based diet is a particular concern. This work is not limited, however, to plant-based diets but serves as an introduction to overall healthy nutrition, including understanding healthy intake of sugar, fiber, fat and protein. It also explores macronutrients. Each of these chapters and sections include helpful diagrams and charts. This is a weighty book that is for those seriously planning to adapt to a healthy lifestyle that includes pretty much everything you need to know based on recent and long-term research to plan a diet for a well-nourished family.

What a well thought out and amazing book on nutrition from a plant based perspective. I have been recommending this book to absolutely everyone I know! A gem of a book.

I did not read this from an educator lens.

I did read this from the lens of someone who is very interested in nutrition and eating more plant-based as family. The book was really informative of how to eat healthier and provide enough of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that families need, particularly children. It was a bit textbook like. I would have appreciated having more photos, charts, etc. included throughout the book.

I would recommend this to someone that is beginning their journey to plant-based eating.

Recently, I have been making a conscious decision to include more plant-based meals into my diet, and so I was excited to the opportunity to read Nourish, which was provided to me by NetGalley and HCI Books in return for my honest opinions. Nourish is an more of a discussion of plant-based nutrition more than a cookbook, although it does have some recipes, which I am looking forward to trying.

Nourish is scientific and factual while still remaining easy to understand and accessible, covering many reasons to go plant-based, including health, ethical, and environmental. Although it is aimed primarily at parents, it will be helpful for new vegans/vegetarians looking for the why and the how, as well as hints and nutritional information. This will be a great resource if you (or someone you love) has ever thought about going vegan/vegetarian.

Nourish is a plant based book that really focuses on how to raise a plant based family. Most of the book talks through four main sections with the last quarter being recipes. The concepts are Considerations, Care, Confidence, & Connection. Considerations is the why section; why would you raise a plant based family. Care talks through nutrients; what they are and where you can get them. This section also breaks down nutrition and diet based on life stages from pregnancy through adolescences. Confidence is about how to create the veggie leaning atmosphere so that you feel like an expert regarding your families lifestyles. Finally Connection is how to take these previous concepts and put them into practice with shopping, meal planning, and recipes.

Because this book is really geared towards the family unit the recipes are a little different like snickerdoodle hummus instead of just regular hummus or what to do for burger night or taco night. Now even though the family is the audience that does not mean that a single person or couple could not get something from it. The Care section would be great for all readers just skip the kid focused parts if it does not apply to you.

3 stars

This book was not what I was expecting it to be. I thought it was more like a cookbook giving me lots of different options to nourish myself. Instead it is a diatribe on how to eat plant based and what that meant.

Are there good ideas in here? Yes. Lots. It’s more reference than book to help me nourish myself. There are recipes but they are few and far between. It was quite a dry read and took me awhile to wade through.

Not my favorite book but okay. Great for your reference section, though.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

I received this book from Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nourish is an information rich book on plant nutrition. From pantry and storage solutions to tools and sample menus; this book is meant to help the reader become fully informed on the benefits of plant based nutrition for families, especially for growing families who want to introduce their children to plant based values. Recipes included.
I found this book to be heavy on the information and reference. Authors are both professional in their respective fields. Recommended for young families and families of teens too, with ideas for around the table discussions about the values they hold.
Enjoyable read.

This book is PACKED with nutritional information on everything you could imagine! Probably a little too overwhelming for new vegans unless you really want to dive into the nutritional requirements your body needs, but this is a great resource for registered dietitians and medical staff, as well as pregnant moms wanting to abide by a plant-based lifestyle. For each vitamin/mineral it is explained why it is important and there is a chart on how much to consume based on your weight. In addition to the evidence-based research, there is a small section of recipes included. I will definitely be using this book as a reference point in the future.

*Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley. However, all opinions are my own.*

I was looking forward to this book. As a flexitarian household I try to do what I can to increase our plant-based food options and this book seemed like a great new resource. I enjoyed what I was reading until Chapter 3. Early into chapter 3, I came to a screeching halt. I can agree that compassion needs to be shown to animals. I can agree that the disconnect of a companion animal to a food source needs to be evaluated. However, I absolutely cannot agree with using a quote from a holocaust survivor about the observations he has made from the evils he suffered as a comparison to eating meat! As a historian and a Jewish woman, I am appalled that this was seen as an ok thing to do by the writers and the editors. Once I read that, I was finished with this book. There were better ways to make your point. As much as I wanted the rest of the information written here, I could no longer trust the writer's integrity to finish reading what was left.

If you're interested in the benefits of switching to a whole foods, plant based diet this is the book for you. As someone who has tried a myriad of diets and healthy living techniques over the years I can say that information is key and Nourish provides so much information!

I've been vegetarian, vegan, plant based, fish only and through much research and experimentation I've found that a plant based diet plus healthy meat protein works the best for me. Books like Nourish help me to not only maintain the plant based portion of my diet, but also refresh and re-ignite my passion for healthy eating and cooking. There are loads of delicious recipes in here!

I appreciate that the book is organized by Consideration, Care, Confidence and Connection. I think you truly need all of those pieces to create a balanced, healthy life and I like Nourish addresses each piece.

Great book, I would highly recommend for healthy lifestyle lovers, parents, vegetarians, health professionals and meat eaters. Even if you aren't fully plant based, the information here is still very relevant and informative!

Noutish is a great guide for both those who are looking to start following a plant-based diet and those who have been eating veggie who are looking to ensure they are getting optimal nutrition.
I love that the book walks you through all the nutritional needs and also outlines shopping lists and includes a number of recipes.
Many thanks to Health Communications Inc and NetGalley for the advance copy.

When this book says it's The Definitive Guide it isn't slacking and it's definitely not playing around. This book answered questions in an understandable way, that I had kinda let fall to the wayside due to the sheer abundance of questionable information the internet had provided me.

But also this book goes into things that are always hard to find information for like how does one continue this kind of diet while pregnant or breastfeeding and how to do so safely and successfully. Which is somewhere information is always lacking.

I also enjoyed that it offered menu ideas broken down by age, it was really interesting to look into.

While I wasn't super excited about a fair number of the recipes, there were definitely ones I will be picking out to add to my rotation and I think that the information provided definitely makes up for me not loving every recipe I see.

This is an extensive guide to veganism and whether the reader agrees with the concepts or not, there are recipes at the end of the book. I have an open mind on veganism, I have not fully converted to it, but am eating less meat, and mainly because I am intolerant to dairy. have a reason for obtaining this book..
