The cover is GORGEOUS. Who wouldn’t want to start a plant-based “diet” from just looking at the cover?

The book is very informative and evidence-based. Unfortunately, we know that evidence alone is not enough for people to completely upend their lives. Reading the book, I felt sort of like a smoker reading about how smoking is bad for you. We know. And we also know that a plant-based family is more healthy.

The section on advice for parents when talking about weight and nutrition with kids was fantastic. The charts throughout the book were helpful.

I haven’t tried any of the recipes yet, but very few of them seemed appetizing. What this book needs is a way to entice readers to follow the nutritional guidelines suggested in the book. Make the recipes and include full-color photos.

The book suggested many times that families could transition into being more plant-based, but didn’t really give a framework for transitioning. And the transitioning part is probably the thing my family and I need the most.

Perhaps the recipes could include transitional suggestions. I’m not ready to go straight to tofu and chickpeas just yet. No matter how good the science is.

If you have a family that you’re trying to provide healthy meals for and family members are calling you crazy, this book will give you a lot of ammunition to fight back against the naysayers. But if you’re not used to eating a plant-based diet yet, this book might not move you over the line.

This is a great resource with lots of information on plant based diets for all ages, the recipes were easy t9 follow and I enjoyed the couple I tried. My favourite section was the chapter on Shopping, Planning and prepping.

Nutrition experts continue to emphasize the importance of a plant-centered diet. Plant-based diets focus on consuming plant foods and minimizing the use of animal foods. As the number of people switching to plant-centered meals increases, this book serves as a guide to achieving this goal without becoming nutrient-deficient. The authors present the information in clear and plain language and also provide readers with hints for achieving nutrition goals at all age levels. They also provide recommendations for menu planning, shopping, and preparing meals that are plant-centered. In addition, they have included both ideas for “no recipe“ meals as well as several recipes for those who prefer to use them.

This book would work for personal use or as a gift. Either way, the person using this book is on their way to a healthy way of eating.

'Nourish' is a comprehensive, well-researched educational book about plant-based diets. The focus of this book is largely about nutrition, with about 75% (300 pages) devoted to nutritional information in a variety of areas including: comprehensive nutrition information and needs, benefits of plant-based diets, etc. There are tons of charts and graphs to make information easy to understand. 'Nourish' also includes chapters on nutrition during pregnancy/lactation and for children's diets. The last chapter includes a variety of relatively simple, healthy recipes; shopping lists; and sample meal menus. These are not extensive, but a great start. Some of the most enticing recipes includes: peanut dragon bowl, kind shepherd pie, snickerdoodle hummus, and peanut butter brownies.

It's an informative book with a lot of general information all around the topic the title suggests: nourish.
From food to environment to overall body and mind, every aspect of our life needs nourishment of some kind and this book touches on that.
For me personally it was a bit heavily focused in US information and statistics.
I also already knew a good amount of the information since a lot of it was basic knowledge in my eyes but that isn't a negative point, simply pointing out that if you alreadywell read on the topic? This book will give a few snippets Infos but generally this is more targeted towards people that are still newer or not yet well read on the topic and want a solid start.

All in all ?
A great book and filled with infos and good advice!

I requested this book because I am interested in learning how to incorporate healthy foods into my everyday diet. I have special dietary needs that are new to me, so I believed this book could shed some light on what I would be looking for in certain recipes, as well as info about foods I've yet to try. This book is designed to help parents and families include nutrition in the decisions with mealtime. The authors are medical professionals with expertise in plants-based nutrition + personal diets. The book aims to show how a diet centered on plants can improve health. They include nutrition specific information for various stages of growth in children, including pregnancy / breastfeeding for expecting mothers. Additionally, tips and recipes are included, as reflected by the appealing cover depicting a rainbow of plants.

I'd suggest this more for parents, but there is something to take away for all ages. I gained some insight on nutrition and how to include certain plants in my meals that I didn't think of before.

Nourish is an well thought out collection of how to create a more healthful household. It was just what I was looking for when I found it on NetGalley. Our family has made the decision to eat a more plant based diet and this book helped me solidify those plans.

Awesome book about food! It explains each kind of nutrient, where they come from, how much you should eat., what each food does to your body and then there are some recipes at the end. Great book! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

I requested this book because the cover caught my attention and because I've always leaned more towards a plant-based diet and wanted to help my family lower their meat intake.

I wanted to like this book, I really did, but overall, the information felt as if it had been cobbled together from pamphlets at a doctor's office or several other books. There was no new information that I hadn't seen before. Even the recipes, aside from one or two, were things that were standard vegetarian fare for anyone who's dabbled in being either vegetarian or vegan.

Overall, 3/5, mostly due to the fact this book collected a lot of widely spread information and put it in one easy to read place. A good book for beginners in this lifestyle.

I assumed this would be yet another vegetarian recipe book with some tips about raising a plant-based family sprinkled throughout, but in reality, the book went MUCH deeper into vegetarianism, why it's good for the body and the environment, and how to realistically raise children on a plant-based diet healthily and joyfully. It was very research and science-based balanced out by recipes and grocery list ideas. I also really appreciated the fact that the authors addressed eating disorders and how they may be created and/or exacerbated by parents who aren't mindful. Overall, a very informative and motivating resource for those looking to live a vegetarian lifestyle.

This is a good information resource for anyone considering a vegan or more plant based lifestyle for their family. If you need convincing and want to weigh up the positive benefits then this will help you. It is also good for parents worried about their children getting the right nutrition on a plant based diet. For me personally I don't need convincing but wanted some more good recipes and this is probably not the best book for that, especially as there are no pictures. Overall a great information resource but don't buy it for the recipes alone.

There was a lot of good information in this book! It took a while to digest it all (no pun intended), so at first it seemed overwhelming, but tackling it a little bit at a time was definitely helpful. The language in it was very easy to understand, meaning that it wasn't to scientific that it just went over my head.

I also tried some of the recipes and so far so good, especially as my family is slowly starting to become more plant based, so having new recipes at our disposal is always good! I only wished there were pictures of the food, as that somehow makes me more inclined to make it.

A lot of great information on plant-based eating, filled with explanations and science. A lot of reading packed into this book, so for anyone new and wanting to understand this lifestyle, this a great way to learn, but could be somewhat daunting. It can also be great for those who don’t have some knowledge of nutrition already. Great recipes and many I am eager to try. I was very disappointed that it did not include any photos, especially because of the beautiful cover. A lot of info on feeding kids and families. I’m always looking for great information and recipes on plant-based eating, and this had many from both simple and complex. It also gives a meal planning guide to help, with helpful guides and shopping lists.

I have been thinking a lot about my eating choices in the last few months and making a more conscious effort to fuel my body in a way that makes it feel good. This book was filled with valuable information about being vegetarian and other eating and nutrition options. I am sure I will be returning to this book for a reference point in the future!

I requested this book because I made the switch to a mostly WFPB-SOS diet last year and found that the benefits were great but the switch itself was quite challenging--shopping, prepping, eating with others. It baffled my friends and family even though they continued to eat as they always had and I brought my own food with me when we met. How much easier choosing a vegan (or flextarian) food plan would have been if everyone had been exposed to vegetarian/vegan/meatless/minimally processed options as children! I particularly like that the authors offer their suggestions for moving to minimally processed, whole food meals in a way (tasty recipes!) that offers foods kids already love (lasagna, burritos, Asian bowls, wraps, snacks, etc.) in a much healthier but recognizable way (you just drastically cut sugars, oils and highly processed ingredients by making substitutions). Yes, this will take some forethought (no more drive-thrus dinners or factory frozen meals!) and it will take some time to learn new cooking/assembly routines. One extra bonus is lower grocery bills, depending on where you live. The authors offer some science behind their recommendations as well as recipe options. Even if you aren't interested in making a switch to WFPB living, pick this up and look at the recipes--they are pretty good. For those who are, seventy percent of the book covers multiple arguments for switching over (social, economic, ecological, health, and more).

Let's start with what this is not. NOURISH is not a cookbook. It's more like a text book, chock full of everything anyone could possibly want to know about veganism. My bad for not reading the description better, but I thought from that beautiful cover that it must be primarily veg-friendly recipes with facts about nutrition tossed in to supplement.

While there are recipes (two or three of which I'll actually probably make), they're all condensed into a final chapter. The 300+ pages before that are text, stats and charts about eating only plants. The info is extremely thorough and will be helpful for anyone who is looking to defend the vegan lifestyle choice to others or even themselves. People who are "curious" about the topic will end up with glazed eyes along with their carrots.

This is an incredible resource for anyone wanting to try or learn more about a plant based, whole food diet and lifestyle. It is full of great information, tips, and advice. This is one I’ll return to again and again.

I enjoyed this book and the guidance it gave. As a single young female not all the sections are relevant to me with babies and feeding families and kid s but some I will take away and do more research in the future. The principles are easy to understand and I will start to work with them. I can’t wait to start making more and more recipes they sound so good!! I couldn’t see any illustrations or pictures for how the food should look after cooking maybe that’s just me but I felt it lacking something I must admit they all sound good! Better go get cracking!

Wow! As a Registered Dietitian myself I really loved and appreciated this book as a resource for patients or friends/family. I find the information in this book to be extremely thorough which was surprising to me. Normally books that broach this subject are either too basic or very much had a fad/trendy diet feel to them. I'll admit when I requested this book I expected it to have more recipes and less text however now that I know what the book entails I am surprised yet excited. Well done!

Wow... wealth of information in this book. Highly standardized book on why you should be a vegan, and stop eating meat. Nourish is an all encompassing guide to the hows and whys of nourishing yourself with a vegetable meal plan.

What did I think? There was a ton of information but I was seriously in it for recipes. It’s a no brainer that refusing to eat meat helps the environment and your health and I didn’t need the three hundred plus pages of proof. Still if you need to read all that for proof...go ahead.

Would I buy or recommend? Personally I don’t need a copy, and it’s a ton of information. Don’t buy it for the less than a hundred pages of recipes either because no pictures. I guess if you want to jump on the vegan bandwagon then you will definitely get your fill of information.

I received a complimentary copy to read! Three stars. Too much info.
