Katie Knight’s Protecting His New Family is a mixture of heartbreak, intrigue, family, and romance. The story was emotional right out of the gate, picking up momentum as the pages turned...nearly by themselves...segueing seamlessly into intrigue and suspense. As Owen and Sam navigated their new normal, there were nefarious forces working against them...giving the story another level of tension that moved it along at a rapid pace. All in all this was a story that I found easy to loose myself in quite easily.

I only scanned this book to assess it for purchase. I looked like a nice, feel good romance story. Appeared well written and an above average story line. The characters were relatable and sexy, which is always nice. I would recommend this book to readers of romance fiction.

She’s trying manage coparenting and finishing her mission. But when her attraction to Owen burns hot and someone wants her to stop with her research Owen will stop at nothing to protect his new family.

It was very enjoyable to read and I seriously enjoyed it! Great characters and I did not want to put it down. I seriously wanted to believe it was all Zack 😉

The action takes a while to get into—and, in general, it was a little lighter on the action than I had expected, and the wrap-up happened so quickly post-climax that I almost missed the climax, to be honest. Owen's perspective gave off a serious "not like other girls" vibe toward Sam, which I'm not really a fan of. I'd have liked to see considerably more relationship development between these two.

Owen lost his brother, Samantha lost her sister, and now the two of them have been tasked of raising their 14 month old nephew Myles. He was a former Navy Seal, and she is a scientist working on a vaccine. When threats start increasing for her Owen steps up to help. Attraction sparks and it is obvious how the story will end, but that is fine. Overall, this book kept my interest throughout and it is one I would highly recommend. Fun and fast read.

Leslie North consistently brings great characters and passionate romance to life. As a big fan of North's, her name provokes an automatic one-click from me. I am always entertained. Highly recommend.

I found this to be an OK read. I would have appreciated more interaction between Owen and Sam, alone, earlier on. Myles, it felt, was the only reason for their relationship. More time apart from the typical day to day parenting could have allowed for a stronger foundation for their attraction and kept me interested. Instead, I found myself skimming through the book looking for private moments between the two main characters. Readers who like a story strongly set around family and a bit less on romance, will surely enjoy this book.

While the story had some sadness in it, it was still full of adventure and a bit of sexy times. The book was a definite 5 star read.

What a great twist to a lousy situation. Samantha and Owen are two single people tasked to co-parent a baby after the loss of his parents. Sam is clinical to a fault and maternal is not her thing. Owen is a former SEAL and parenting seems to come naturally. Both are doing the best job they can, add in some danger, action, and a growing attraction. The internal monologue is lengthy but reveals both characters' insecurities. The story moves along quickly, making for a weekend read.

This is the second book I have read from Katie Knight and I enjoyed it just as much as the first!
The story follows Sam and Owen who have been forced together through horrendous circumstances and are left with their nephew to raise.
Due to Sams work, it’s not all plain sailing and the book takes a few twists and turns. I did think some bits could have been expanded on at the end (especially the friend who they stayed with) as I felt it ended and we didn’t get a conclusion to one of the main plot lines.
All in all, it was an easy, enjoyable read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.

Owen Foster put in his retirement papers for the Navy and has decided to leave the Seals. His brother and sister in law were killed in a car crash and he and his other sister in law Samantha Mayfield were named guardians. she is a scientist, researcher who is working on a new vaccine for a disease. With years of research, trials, and tests she is looking at finally sending off for approval. She is now feeling less than because she wants to help with Myles but feels more comfortable in the lab.
She finds herself at first trying too hard when everything seems easy for Owen, she also begins to see Owen in a different light as he does things out of kindness for her and Myles which she really is not used to having. She is mostly by herself except for the people in her lab and her assistant, who Owen begins to first be jealous of, and then when someone begins to put an end to her research, he thinks he could be behind it.
I found this to be one of the better stories and I really liked the storyline and the characters. The relationship between the two of them starts slow and they both have their own fears that they each need to work through. The end is really good and the author keeps Samantha in character all the way to the closing of the book which adds to this story. A very good read with good characters

Owen and Samantha are left to care for their nephew, Max, after his parents are killed in a car accident. Owen is a Seal who resigns to take care of Max and Samantha is a medical researcher. Neither one know the first thing about being parents. The situation is further complicated by the fact they are attracted to each other and someone wants to stop Samanthas research. I enjoyed this book. The characters were likable and the story line held my interest. This is a light fast read. Thank you to net galley for a copy.

PROTECTING HIS NEW FAMILY by Katie Knight and Leslie North. This was an enjoyable read telling the tale of two people that suffered a family tragedy and now had to pick up the pieces and move on. I liked both characters - Owen and Sam, although sometimes, they both seemed a bit self involved and even a tad immature, especially Sam. However, I loved watching them with Myles, especially Owen. Seeing the big, bad SEAL melt for his nephew certainly made the heart flutter a bit. There is plenty of danger and action, as well as tender moments and blossoming of love. This book is a sweet and interesting read with the MC having to care for children as a family member is lost. There is good writing and the main character are likable.
The pace becomes very fast when the action really gets going and kind of makes it feel like the author just wanted to to get that part over with. The story was a bit predictable and tropey though the author had tried to take a different angle on this.
Overall, an okay read.

What a sweet but sad story! I couldn’t imagine losing such an important person and then having to raise their child. That’s a heavy weight. Owen not only stepped up to the plate but he protected what he was in trusted with but also what he wanted. I loved the build up to the love they felt.

First in this newest series and a good story. Intrigue, mystery, angst, romance and steam are all part of this story. Good read with the requisite HEA. Good vacation\beach read. If you are looking for a light read add this to your TBR list.

In their wills they named Owen and Samantha Mayfield, Lauren’s sister, as co-parents to Myles. Owens’ head was spinning as he considered the monumental lifestyle changes he needed to make as he assumed his new role as a parent to Myles. First order of business is to resign his commission in the Navy and then ditch the fun-loving, carefree party boy/player reputation he had earned. What scared him most was the realization he hadn’t a clue about parenting. It looked like Owen was slated for some heavy and accelerated OJT (On the Job Training). Grieving the loss of his brother would have wait.

Sam (Samantha) Mayfield spent years working as a medical research scientist looking for a “cure” for a deadly childhood disease. Now her sister Lauren was dead and Sam was named in her will as a co-guardian to baby Myles. She loved her nephew but the thought of becoming a parent with no apparent training or experience had her stymied. Could she pull back from her research and let others take over? Or maybe with judicious scheduling she could adjust her hours in the lab and still be a mom to Myles. Now her biggest worry was if she’d be able to make this co-op parent role work, especially considering she’s been interested in Owen for years. But her lack of self confidence had her thinking her feelings weren’t reciprocated. And besides, she wasn’t his type.

As Sam and Owen are settling into their new arrangement their world is turned upside down by an attempt on Sam’s life. She’s received threats from an unknown source, demanding she abandon her research project “or else”. After the break in Owen, Sam and Myles drive to another lab facility in Washington state. And the chase is on. Whoever is after them is determined to stop her. Can Owen protect his new family and keep them safe?

What ensues hurtles from scary car chases, to gunshots to an abduction. All this action is tempered by the growing relationship between Owen and Sam as they finally give in to their desire for each other. “Protecting His New Family” is part action/adventure, part romance, part thriller and way too many internal musings from both protagonists. The characters seemed consumed by their own feelings of inadequacy and the angst was repetitious to the point that I started skimming over those passages. The action scenes are a good way to exhibit Owen’s prowess as a SEAL and lends the narrative a much needed boost. The plot premise is intriguing but doesn’t fully explore or explain the threats to Sam. Also the denouement is rushed and murky leaving the reader unsatisfied.

Co-authors Katie Knight and Leslie North are listed as best seller novelists. While the writing is grammatically correct, the emotional drama between Owen and Sam is lackluster. Even the bedroom scenes. Baby Myles stole the show although I question some of his deftness at such a tender age. Granted, he’s destined to be above average but still..... Three stars.
