The reader is glued to the pages from the onset of the prologue. Three year old (Mia) is in the emergency room - poisoned? Her parents - Becca (a nurse) and Dean (a businessman who is constantly on the road) are with Mia.

As the story progresses, we find out that Becca is not happy with her life. She begins communicating via internet with an Ex from 10 years ago, Connor.

Connor and Becca had met when she was on a trip to Australia (from Wales). She realized that she wanted more of a secure relationship and Connor was too much of a free spirit for that.

The reader finds out that Becca is unstable when faced with any adversity - and has had prior psychological problems...

A truly gripping tale!

Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a twisty, great read.

This was an enjoyable reading experience, albeit a bit predictable. It didn’t really super stand out to me but I had no trouble keeping interest in it.? Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

This was a superb read. I could not put it down and it had me guessing right until the end.
Becca is a busy working mum spinning a lot of plates while her husband works all the hours and she is a little excited when she hears from her ex on social media. Flattered by a bit of attention she is distracted when her daughter becomes very unwell. All is not quite as it seems, and she must fight to keep the life she has but against who, and why?
I had no idea where this book was going, I had to stay up late to watch it unravel, brilliant!

Oh my word this book took me on one hell of a ride. It was flipping fantastic. I started reading this yesterday morning and finished it in one sitting it was that good. A book full of twists and turns that will have you turning those pages so fast to find out what will happen next. 5 massive 🌟

I have to say this book was pretty predictable and the a-ha! moment never came.
Our main star, wife, mother, nurse enjoys her work, loves her daughter isn’t sure about her husband.

When 3 year old daughter Mia starts to become ill out of the blue on random days, the first two times it is chalked up to a virus after the 3rd and 4th time thoughts turn to more sinister scenarios. Mom’s know best, especially Mom’s that are nurses. But when the truth of the episodes is revealed and Mom is the one who everyone is pointing the finger at things get even more bleak. Desperate to clear her name and of the label Munchausen by proxy an event from the past may make reuniting Mother and daughter a little more difficult.

Special thanks to Netgalley and Bookoutre for this still enjoyable read.

Thanks to NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC which I received in exchange for my honest review. The Ex-Boyfriend is the first novel I have read by Rona Halsall. It is a fast-paced and twisty domestic thriller. Unlike many books in this genre, the story is told entirely from the point of the main character, Becca. Becca is a wife and mother who works as a nurse. Her husband Dean is a workaholic who is too preoccupied to be truly present for his wife and young daughter, Mia.

Things go from bad to worse for Becca when 3 year old Mia begins experiencing mysterious symptoms which cause Becca to suspect that her daughter is being poisoned. At the same time, Becca's former love Connor has reached out to her via Twitter, rekindling a flame that has never quite died. As Mia continues to get sick, Becca is desperate to save her child but no one will take her concerns seriously despite the fact that she is a nurse.

This is the type of book where the main character suspects absolutely everyone in her life of committing these heinous acts. The author did a good job of building tension and Becca's frustration and powerlessness was palpable. That being said, I absolutely did not enjoy the reveal. I don't want to give away the identity of the perpetrator but rather than being shocked at the reveal as was probably intended I was just disappointed and sad.

The book contains a nice epilogue where readers can catch up with the characters one year later. I thought that was well done and the romantic triangle had a very satisfying conclusion.

All in all this was not one of my favorite domestic thrillers but it was fast paced and well written. I will give this author another try.

I loved this book right from the beginning. It was a little predictable but it was written well enough to keep me hooked. This is my first book from Rona Halsall but won’t be the last!

I absolutely love this author's books so was so excited to be given the opportunity to read this one. I couldn't wait to get started and once had picked it up I couldn't put it down and it certainly didn't disappoint. This is one of my top reads of 2020. Rona Walsall certainly kept me on my toes with this one as was lots of red herrings and twists and turns and everyone I thought I was close to working out who it was responsible for what was happening to mia I was wrong. This was definitely an edge of the seat tense read. This is Rona Walsall next book yet and they just keep getting better and better already excited for the next one. If you love fast paced twisty psychological thrillers then I highly recommend.

This was a great, believable creepy thriller and the first (for me) by this author. It had many twists and turns and was hoping for a happy ending for the protagonist. Easy to read this in a few sittings because of the suspense and OMG aspect. Recommended for readers who like thrillers that could happen in real life.

Thanks to Netgalley, Rona Halsall and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, I loved the plot itself and the twists were awesome. However, I don't feel like it was executed quite the way I would've liked it and didn't think it made for the best of storytelling. I would definitely read from this author again though.

A child is in between manipulative adults.
Mia is presenting with symptoms that look like poisoning. Her mother is apparently a nurse but I just found her annoying.
I did wonder about the title!
But I did not predict the outcome.

Rona Halsall never fails to draw in the reader. This one didn't disappoint from the first page. It's an absolutely brilliant domestic thriller. Quite the surprise at the end. Definitely worth five stars.

I love Rona’s books and this one didn’t disappoint. A compelling read that kept me gripped right to the end, staying up late to read ‘just one more chapter’. The characters are completely credible and the plot has plenty of twists and turns. I didn’t guess who was poisoning Mia and the ending was a complete surprise. Rona is a brilliant author who knows how to weave a plot that really hooks. Highly recommended.

Oh my goodness, Rona weaves a fantastic plot around a parent’s worst nightmare. At times I felt my tension levels rising and my fists clenching for Becca and the injustice that she was going through. I had no idea who was trustworthy and who wasn’t which had me hurrying through the book to find out.

I loved the use of social media, more specifically Twitter, and Becca’s character was revealed with skill through her responses. Her dilemma was fantastic and Connor fuelled that brilliantly.

As for the characters, they were really well developed. I wanted to delve into what was causing all the tensions within the whole family, unleashing whatever secret were being kept. Mia’s little character was lovely and I felt disturbed by what was happening to her.

A great psychological thriller that totally reeled me in and not without its mega shocking surprises. A must read. Loved it!

OMG....I love Rona’s books and this one did not disappoint. It kept me gripped and guessing right till the very end. To start with I did not like Ruth there was something about her that I was not sure about. I know she is a childminder and protective of the children she looked after but their was something odd in the way she was leaving Mia things in her will and came across over protective and strange. It had so many twists and turns, it kept me guessing and second guess but I never guessed the true out and how things would pan out in the end. This book is amazing and definitely one to be put on the TBR list.

Another gripping book by Rona, The Ex Boyfriend had me hooked straight away, I absolutely loved it, full of twist that had me guessing, a proper psychological thriller.

Rona Halsall really knows how to write a book I don’t want to put down! This one kept me hooked from the very first page, which is pretty much my favorite thing about a book! I was worried that I wouldn’t sympathize with the protagonist but as a mom, I totally loved her. My heart ached for her. I don’t want to give anything away but I really loved the ending!

Thanks so much to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reading this book in advance!
