I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
A dramatic and action packed story about the apocalypse. The writing is OK but lacks the buildup of the suspense as events happen suddenly and seemingly out of the blue. The characters are quite engaging.
An OK read.

this was a great start to a series, the characters were great and I enjoyed going through this world. I look forward to more from the author.

When a new Grace Hamilton book comes out, I consider it a treat for me. If it's the first in a new series...as this one is...I feel like it's my birthday! I hope I never have to try and survive one of her story lines, but I do love reading them. I have read many of her books and loved them all. None of the series are the same. She does not just rewrite the same story changing names and places. Each is unique with their own cast of characters facing the "day after" effects of a major EMP that wipes power, communication and transportation across the US.

This series is based on an island. When the EMP strikes, along with the immediate threats, the causeways automatically rise to prevent watercraft collisions, leaving no clear access to the mainland. Elna and her father own a vineyard, winery and guest tour business on the island. They are now stranded on the island with their guest for the day, a mixed group that is obviously not prepared for their world to change. The struggle to provide food, water and shelter is not the only danger this group faces. They must get off the island and to the mainland where they hope to find more resources and less damage.

This was a great read. When Grace Hamilton is the author, you are assured a great story, interesting characters and plenty of "on no, they didn't" moments. Recommend, recommend, recommend

Very enjoyable book about living through the aftermath of a large-scale EMP bomb. Elna is an interesting, practical minded character. I like that about this book; instead of a ex-military survivalist, she's just a regular woman who can problem solve.
The one thing that drew me out of the story was I couldn't stop laughing at the characters who lived on an island and didn't have any type of boat. Still, that's a minor quibble. Didn't stop me from reading the whole story almost in one go. I'll look forward to the next one.

I recieved a free copy via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I dont often read dystopian books but the blurb and cover grabbed my attention. So did the book. I really enjoyed it and I am glad I took a chance on it.
