The second book in Jason Pinter's Rachel Marin series begins with an email she receives from one of her son's teachers. He wants Rachel to help him with something. When the teacher is found murdered the nest day Rachel becomes entangled in a twisted case. As she begins to investigate her son is recruited by a shady business man who wants to use him to distract Rachel from what is really happening. The story is well-paced with a few good twists along the way. Rachel is an interesting character who straddles the line between following the rules and breaking them. I look forward to another book in the series.

I couldn't put this book down and read it in one day! Rachel Marin (mostly) operates on the side of the law but always looks to deliver justice; her approach causes some friction with her budding romance with a police detective. In the first book, Rachel feels compelled to act for a case that she wasn't involved in; this time, it's personal as she fights for her son as he is dragged into some shady goings on. A kick-butt heroine and exciting read!

A Stranger at the Door is a very fast paced murder mystery. Rachel Marin is a strong woman who is holding a secret and possesses incredible physical and mental self defence skills. A Stranger at the Door is the second book in the Rachel Marin series by the prolific author Jason Pinter.

Rachel’s son’s teacher is brutally murdered just after sending her an email asking to meet. Shortly afterwards Rachels’ troubled son Eric becomes involved with Bennett Brice, a shady character, who promises young boys riches beyond their wildest dreams. As an overprotective mom, Rachel makes things worse by threatening Eric’s new benefactor and everything starts to escalate. Rachel begins to wonder if the murder and the appearance Brice Bennett are somehow linked.

I really enjoy the book because it is interesting, fast paced and an easy read. Although there are many twists and turns it is easy follow because all of the surprises have strong links to the central theme. The author has a way of maintaining his focus on the story.

All of the characters are very relatable. There are moms who will do anything for their kids, cops who just want to get their job done, a several victims who just get dragged in to the fray. All of it is very believable.

I recommend this book to all people who love a good fast paced and tight murder mystery. I give it a 4 on 5. I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with a digital copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to What a wild ride start to finish. Everyone has a secret. It seems Rachel has a past and a new name to hide from her past, her son has a new “job” with shady operations. No one is who they seem and it all ties in with one very dangerous player in the game. Who will live and who will die when the past and present collide.
This was very well written with so many twists and turns and very relate-able characters. I really enjoyed this story, it flowed well and held suspense throughout. Put this one on your “to read” list.

This is the second book in the Rachel Marin series by Jason Pinter. Rachel is in a good place -has a good relationship with Police detective Sarreno who was in the first book.
Rachel receives an email from her son’s teacher about something going on at the school – The next day he is murdered. For Rachel it is personal -
This case strains her relationship with her boyfriend and her son- She goes after the killer no matter what.
I really enjoyed the writing and the story. Pinter has another series that I really enjoyed which prompted me to request this book from Net Galley, which I read for an honest review. This one is turning out to be just as good.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview A Stranger at the Door by Jason Pinter. Pinter is fast becoming a favorite author for me. He has the ability to create really good characters that you become vested in, want to follow, and are REAL.
This is the second book in the Rachel Marin series, and although this can be a stand alone, i really suggest readers to take the time to read the first book. - Hideaway. Also, he has another series - Henry Parker - that's another series that I really like.
The book introduces you again to Rachel, her kids, and her new boyfriend - a cop she met recently who she is starting a relationship with - and some other characters that keep the story rich and interesting.
Rachel has a past - a terrible secret - and she tries to keep a low profile, but somehow, trouble seems to find her. When a local teacher is found dead, Rachel has a connection - her son was a student of his, and this teacher sent her an email before he died - he was reaching out to Rachel for help and then he is found dead.
Rachel musters the strength to get to the bottom with a little help from her friends and along the way she is hit from all sides. Can Rachel keep her children safe and keep her self out of the public eye. Someone wants to find Rachel and he/she will do anything to keep her quiet.
Very good - 4.5 stars.

A Stranger at the Door by Jason Pinter Another suspenseful fast paced thriller with Rachel Marin. There are plenty of twists and turns and Rachel is proving to be one tough lady. Rachel Marin and Sarreno have both a personal and professional relationship which is being sorely tested towards the end of the book. Looking forward to future books in the series.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Review
Book #2
So this book started out good. I really enjoyed Rachel's part in this book, The plot was interesting which kept my interest through out. I started to lose that interest towards the end. (hate when that happens)
But overall it was a fast paced read, kept me some what interested and I finished it!

Having received a frightening email from the teacher shortly before his death, Rachel feels compelled to see justice served. Rachel is a strong character who believes in justice. However, she has escaped from a past which comes calling and she must balance a new crime that will involve a family member. The start of the book has a fast pace, however, it dips and slows in some parts, and then picks up toward the end. This is the second in a series. I did not read the first, and I don't feel you need to read that in order to enjoy this. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

I really enjoyed the first Rachel Marin book; this one not as much. For one thing, it was hard for me to read a scene fairly early on that seemed odd and gross so I sort of Lost interest from that point. But since I like the characters I wanted to see how predatory played out.

I enjoyed this book.
Rachel was a great protagonist and very likable, and I really liked the family relationships as well as John's and Rachel's relationship. The beginning of the book was really good, that first chapter written from the victim's perspective was great and it really helped set the mood for the rest of the book.
I found the book easy to read and I read it in one sitting, although the pacing towards the middle was a little off and I found myself a little bored occasionally. The ending was much faster again and although the plot twists weren't super unique or surprising, I was still entertained.
