I tried to start reading this one, but couldn't get into it. It was almost too much information and not enough story. It wasn't what I thought it was when I downloaded it.

I can remember Katrina. I can remember; the TV pictures. I can remember the pictures of water rushing, of people stranded on rooftops, of horrific property damage, and of the rows of cars seeking to escape this dystopia. I can remember the anger we all felt at the incompetence of the authorities.
We should remember the TV pictures. We should remember; the pictures of water rushing, of people stranded on rooftops, of horrific property damage, of rows of cars seeking to escape this dystopia. We should remember the anger we all felt at the incompetence of the authorities.
Sandy Rosenthal remembers. She was there. This book recounts her family’s experiences of fleeing the floods and rebuilding their lives. In addition, we are told the heart-breaking stories of their neighbours; the trauma of those who survived and their grief at the loss of those who didn’t. Moreover, It is a story about a fight for justice. It is a story of how the author fought for the truth to be told concerning the causes of the destruction. She demanded to know why the levees broke.

This won’t be the last natural disaster. In fact, there have been many such incidents in the last few years. In this time of global warming, there will be more. We need to learn lessons from these disasters. We need to learn from the destruction. We should remember Katrina. We should remember the TV pictures. We should remember the pictures of water rushing, of people stranded on rooftops, of horrific property damage. We should remember scenes of rows of cars seeking to escape this dystopia. We should remember the anger we all felt at the incompetence of the authorities. We need to see that we do better. We need to read this book and books like it. At times heart breaking, at times anger making, but always inspirational, this book was an emotional read. I highly recommend that you add this to your #nonfictionnovember #tbr.
