I mistakenly assumed this book would be like every other romantic suspense/thriller out there and boy was I wrong. I was pulled into the story early on and stayed up till 4AM to finish it. The book starts out with sharing the heroines personal experience with death and tragedy. It was a great way to start because I kept wondering throughout the book how her past would be connected to the present. Nikki did not allow the past to stand in her way and instead turned her pain into passion and has become a highly trained and qualified behavior analyst for the FBI. Her work was so well done she was even recruited to start her own team. On the hunt for a serial killer known as Frost, a questionable case brings her back to her hometown, the place she ran from and never planned to return. There’s so much going on in the story and I became absolutely fascinated by how the heroine compartmentalized it all. She really tried her damndest to stay focused on her case. Two young girls show up dead and frozen in the same fashion as the serial killer Frost she’s been hunting and she vows to find the killer be it Frost or someone local, someone she may have grown up with as evidence seems to suggest. At the same time her past is knocking on her door as the man sent to prison for the murder of her parents is trying to have new evidence examined that will free him. Nikki is convinced her recollection of the night is right and again tries her hardest to stay on task but the niggling sense of worry works it’s way under her skin. It was such an intense and gripping read I was eager to see all the connections and how, if even possible, the two cases would be connected. Nikki was just a great heroine, she’s insanely intelligent and also knows when to admit to her mistakes. This was such a great read and I am definitely going to look forward to whatever else the author has in store for the series.

This was a first for me for this author and I found myself loving her writing style. The novel opens up in the mid- 90's when a high school aged Nikki passed out at a part. When she makes it home only to discover that her parents have been killed and the killer is still in the house. The killer still is in the house, and she can hear someone coming up the stairs. The story then jumps to present day when Nikki is assigned to work on the Frost killings. The story has many twists, turns, and misdirections that quickly captured and kept my interest.

This book had a great blend of two main storylines and was a very quick read. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a faced paced thriller with many different components.

thank you to netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book for my unbiased opinion.

It's another case of "It wasn't you; it was me." I was really intrigued with the plot, but it was predictable and a bit dragging especially midway the story.

As soon as I finished chapter one of Stacy’s Green novel The Girls in the Snow I knew my to-do list was toast. Nikki Hunt is a smart, strong FBI agent that is solving two murder cases—one from her past and one that might have a link to her past. Loved every minute of it. The hardest part was not reading it too fast. Looking forward to the next installment of this new series.

The Girls in the Snow is the first book in the Nikki Hunt series. Nikki is an FBI agent who hunts serial killers. Her latest case brings her to her hometown. Two girls are found dead and frozen in the snow. That fits the M.O. of a famous serial Frost, only Nikki is not so sure this was his doing. As the investigation progresses Nikki starts to suspect that these murders are connected to the murders of her parents years ago.
It was such an enjoyable book. The pacing was fast. The small chapters made me flip the pages even faster. Something was constantly going on, the clues were being found, progressing the plot forward. I guessed some of the reveals but not all which is always a plus.
The only thing I didn't enjoy as much was the main character, Nikki. In the beginning of the book we are told quite a few times that she is this cold-blooded, strong willed woman, that nothing could throw her off-balance. She could investigate the most brutal crimes and stay efficient. But then the book does everything to prove the opposite. Nikki barely sleeps or eats, that only adds to stress she is already under. She throws tantrums, acts very stupidly a couple of times. I understand why she acted that way,it's just that I wanted to see that cold-blooded investigator in action. Maybe in the second book she will be more herself.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am not the biggest fan of serial killer thrillers these days. They all seem a bit too formulaic. Then again, maybe I just read to much to be surprised these days.
What will get me to sit down with a book like this though is a great lead character who had many layers and lots of perspectives to bring to the table.
And that is why I ended up loving Stacy Green’s new novel. It’s the first in a new series and I am already looking forward to the next one.
I won’t say more because I hate when I read a review that give away anything. This is a police/FBI procedural feature a strong female lead, great supporting characters, a sense of place, and a history rich with nuggets to be mined in future installments.

Nikki Hunt is an FBI agent who is tracking a serial killer. She is called to investigate the murders of two girls in her hometown, and as the case unfolds, Nikki begins to think maybe the case could be related to the murders of her parents when she was a teen.

I found this book to be engrossing and well-written. I hate when I can guess the outcome of the book early on, but this story kept me second guessing myself until the end. I found it to be fairly realistic and believable too. I appreciated that the author added a sprinkle of romance into the novel, but didn’t let it overshadow the main plot of solving the murders. I enjoyed Nikki and the other main characters in the book.

I would definitely look forward to reading the next book in this series and other work by this author! If you enjoy mysteries and thrillers, this is a solid choice.

After finding her parents murdered in their beds as a teen, Nikki Hunt goes on to forge a career in the FBI, leaving sleepy Stillwater Minnesota behind her. While on the hunt for the serial killer dubbed Mr. Frost, Nikki is called home after 20 years when 2 teenage girls turn up dead, frozen in the snow just like Mr. Frosts other victims.

Nikki quickly figures out that this is not the work of Mr. Frost but decides to stay on the case, even though the man who killed Nikki’s parents has his case up for review, which means news coverage and protestors and the things that brings the nightmares of her past into her present.

But solving the murders of these teens puts her face to face with the people most effected by her past, including the brother of her parent’s murderer, who asks her to take another look at really happened 20 years ago.

This looks to be a good start to a new crime series. The team is built along the lines of the Kay Scarpetta and her crew, perfectly imperfect humans that seem to come together seamlessly.

This novel is well written and keeps the reader engaged in the characters, the team synergy, and in the investigation. Nikki has a traumatic past but she isn’t portrayed as hollow or needy. She manages to fight the war on two fronts in this novel, investigating the current murders and unraveling her past without it seeming like just another rehash of the female investigator tropes.

Overall a good start and a series that I look forward to reading.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Does being back in your hometown bring up good or bad memories?

For Nikki, it's definitely not good ones. She left this town after she found her parents dead, using the tragedy to mold her into a Special Agent with the FBI. But it's the FBI and fresh murders that bring her home.

As expected, solving the new murder means confronting those cobwebs in the closet from all those years ago. Can Nikki find the murderer and get the heck out of town?

Once you start reading this, you won't put it down. Clear your schedule and find a comfortable chair. Fast paced, this is a great book to dig into this winter!

Thank you for allowing me to read this and give my honest opinion.

FANTASTIC crime thriller. The story sucks you in right away with the murder of Nikki's parents 20 years ago. Nikki, now a FBI agent, is back in her home town trying to solve the murder of 2 teenage girls. Great writing, plot & characterization. RECOMMEND highly. First time reading this author but am looking forward to #2 in this series. Thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for a copy of this book

The Girls in the Snow by Stacy Green is the first book in the Nikki Hunt series. The book starts out strong and never waivers having me hooked right from the start.

Twenty years ago when Nikki was only 16 yrs old, her parents were murdered and Nikki was left finding their bodies, with the perpetrator behind bars, Nikki vows to get out of Stillwater, Minnesota and away from the bad memories. Now, Nikki is a successful Special Agent with the FBI leading her own team. When two fifteen year old girls’ bodies were discovered left frozen in the snow, Nikki is tasked with determining if their deaths were the works of a serial killer or if the killer is someone local. Nikki never thought she would ever be back in Stillwater where she holds all of her most painful memories, but life has a way of coming full circle especially when there is no evidence that may suggest her parent’s killer may actually be innocent. Is her parents murder along with the two dead young teens share a connection?

The opening chapter of this story pulled me right in. Finding your parents dead is traumatic for an adult let alone a sixteen year old girl. But, it definitely shaped Nikki and made her stronger. This is what also makes her an outstanding agent as she can separate her feelings especially with dealing with serial killers. Now that she is back in her hometown it brings up a lot of different emotions for her and brings the past back to the forefront. All of this makes Nikki a very likable character and one you are rooting for.

The story moves along at a great pace and always keeps you wanting more. There are twists and turns and just when you think you have it all figured out, you come to find out you actually didn’t know anything at all. The build up is slow and intense and definitely builds in momentum. This is a fantastic start to a new series and I am definitely anticipating more from Nikki Hunt.

This is a five star read that I can happily recommend for crime thriller fans. You definitely want to start this new series now.

The Girls in the Snow is the first book in the new Nikki Hunt Series. It features FBI Agent and Criminal Profiler, Nikki Hunt, who is investigating the murders of two girls left frozen in the snow. Agent Hunt has to go back to her hometown to work the case, a town haunted by the dark memories of her parents’ murder. Soon, she gets caught up trying to keep abreast with the new developments of her parents’ case and solve the murders of the two girls.

This is a fast-paced, compelling read that held me captive up to the last page. I liked Nikki’s background which added to her intrigue. I also liked her line of work and the fact that she is not the usual detective we see in most crime thrillers. The BAU angle reminded me of one of my favorite TV shows, Criminal Minds.

The Girls in the Snow by Nikki Hunt is such a fantastic start to a new series. It has a great female protagonist who is easy to root for, well crafted support characters and a compelling case. I can’t wait to get my hands on book two already.

I highly recommend this utterly enjoyable book to all fans of this genre.

This book starts out suspenseful enough, a young Nikki Hunt returns home late from a party to find her parents murderered inside their home. It doesn't take long to convict a young man who was at her house and everyone is convinced they have the right guy in prison.
Fast forward several years to when Nikki works for the FBI and has to return home to solve the murder of two young girls in the woods. As she gets closer to solving this crime, factors also start making her question what happened all those years ago and if the man in prison convicted of murdering her parents is really guilty at all.
This book was okay, but it didn't have that suspenseful wow factor for me. It was more like a whodunit kind of book the whole time. I like a lot of suspense in my novels and other than the two girls being murdered, the only other suspenseful time I can recall is when glass explodes inside her house, because someone is obviously trying to scare her and distract her from the cases at hand. Thank you NetGalley for another book where I could leave my honest review.

Title: The Girls in the Snow
Author: Stacy Green
PUBLICATION DAY: October 19th 2020

Description:

Madison walked through the fallen snow, looking left and right. It had been Kaylee’s idea to use the trail through the forest; she said no one would follow them. But Madison lost sight of Kaylee for a moment and when she found her again she wasn’t alone…

In the remote forests of Stillwater, Minnesota, you can scream for days and no one will hear you. So when the bodies of two fifteen-year-old girls are discovered frozen in the snow, Special Agent Nikki Hunt is sure the killer is local: someone knew where to hide the girls and thought they would never be found.

Though Nikki hasn’t been home in twenty years, she knows she must take over the case. The Sheriff’s department in Stillwater has already made a mistake by connecting the girls’ murders to those of a famous serial killer, refusing to consider the idea that the killer could be someone from town.

Then another girl’s body is found, a red silk ribbon tied in her hair, and Nikki realizes that the killer has a connection to her own dark past, and the reason she left Stillwater.

Nikki is not the only person in town who wants those secrets to stay hidden. Will she be able to face her demons before another child is taken?

Gripping and spine-chilling, The Girls in the Snow will make you gasp, unable to put it down until the final heart-pounding twist. Perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardner and Robert Dugoni.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Girls In The Snow' by Stacy Green.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 19th October 2020

This is the first book that I have read by this author. It is also the first book in the 'Nikki Hunt' series. It most definitely will not be my last!!!

I was originally drawn to this book by its arresting cover and intriguing sounding blurb. The description also stated that it was perfect for fans of Karin Slaughter among others. I'm a massive fan of Karin Slaughter so I'm interested to see if this book loves up to that powerful statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 51 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are a mix of short and medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Minessota, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonist is Special Agent Nikki Hunt. The positives of books written in third person perspective is that you get to see more of what is going on and what other characters are doing and feeling, building a bigger picture overall.

Wow!!! What an explosive start to what promises to be a fantastic new series!!! Very well written with fantastic descriptions this book had the perfect settings and a great storyline! The cover and blog suited the book perfectly.

The storyline started straight into the action and suckled me straight in where it kept me until the last page. Filled with murder, lies, suspense, action and many a red herring I didn't have a clue who did what which is a huge bonus when it comes to crime novels for me. There's nothing worse than working it all out and your not even half way through the book. I really am looking forward to the next episode in what is definitely looking like a fantastic series.

I loved the fact that the protagonist was a strong female who was not to be messed with. Although Nikki went through hell as a teenager and continued to do so in this book she was definitely not being dragged down. She had a massive personality and her team worked well together, each having their own individuality which is always great to see. All the characters were believable and worked really well with the story. I am looking forward to meeting most of them again in the next novel.

Another fantastic bookouture author who hits my favourite author list and another book I would love to see made into a movie!!!

Overall an absolute kick ass start to what promises to be a nail biting, action packed fantastic series!!

Genres covered in this novel include Mystery, Crime, Murder and Police Procedural among others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Karin Slaughter, M. J. Arlidge, P. J. Tracy and anyone after an action packed crime book.

320 pages.

This book is 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Madison and Kaylee, two fifteen-year-old girls, are found frozen in the forests of Minnesota and Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to the case. Nikki’s past quickly catches up to her as she recalls the horrific murders of her parents not too far from where the two girls were murdered. What follows is a race against time to catch the killer as Nikki also battles with her own memories of the day her parents died.

New series in the Mystery/Thriller genre often need a feisty and mysterious main character and I was not disappointed to find that Nikki Hunt fits that criteria perfectly. I was intrigued by her history and her connections to Stillwater. The parallel story line involving her parents’ killer, Mark Todd, was an interesting addition and created further tension and intricacy in the already gripping plot involving the two murders.

The bitter and freezing cold backdrop created an even more intense atmosphere and a remarkable setting for a murder. Although the descriptions are simple and straightforward, the setting was superbly illustrated and a nice touch to complement the plot.

With its impressive setting and interwoven story lines, The Girls in the Snow proved to be a strong start to the Nikki Hunt series. I can already see several directions the series may take and would be interested to to see which direction it follows and what future adventures Nikki will face.

At the start of the book we are thrown right into a very intense, dark and upsetting scene which really set the tone of the book. We then skip forward quite a few years and Nikki is heading back to her hometown for the first time in years. Two young girls have been murdered and it may be a serial killer that has eluded Nikki for years.

On top of all of this there are protests for the freedom of an innocent man who has been in prison for years. Yes this does seem like a lot is happening in this book but the author has done a really good job of making things very easy to follow.

Right from the start of this book we become suspicious of everyone we come in contact with because Nikki is our main protagonist and we follow her and her train of thought. Nikki doesn’t trust anyone due to what happened when she was younger.

I really enjoyed the topic of running away from your past that was discussed throughout this novel. You can’t run away from your past, it will catch up on you. We do see this with a few of our characters in this story, all of them unwilling to look and face it all.

Nikki is adamant she knows exactly what happened that tragic night until she may have to look back with a professional eye to help solve the case at hand.

The story was well paced and had many twists and turns throughout which kept me on my toes. I had a really enjoyable time reading this book and would highly recommend it.

I would recommend this to everyone who loves a good story with captivating characters! Definitely a good read!

The Girls in the Snow – the first in the Nikki Hunt series about a Special Agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit – is a gripping murder mystery / police procedural that I read in less than a day. It is an exhilarating rollercoaster thrill ride that goes from 0 to 100mph in about six pages!

After a pulse-racing prologue, Stacy Green gets straight into the action, setting the scene and introducing the characters smoothly, with no time or words wasted. The book is an easy read and races along at top speed; the central mystery is brutal and heart-breaking and brings to the surface a lot of Stillwater’s dirty little secrets. The story is well-plotted and seamlessly moves between the current case and the developments surrounding the tragedy of Nikki’s past.

Stacy Green has created a great character in Nikki Hunt – traumatised but healing, dogged but human – and surrounded her with a cast of believable supporting characters. The mysteries and revelations are disturbingly twisted and I did not see the ending coming. The Girls in the Snow is a great opener in this new series and I cannot wait to read the next instalment!

Thank you as always to Bookouture for the ARC and for my spot on the blog tour.

This little number kept me turning the pages and applying brightening cream the next morning to hide the dark circles under my eyes. As a modern day Carmen Sandiego, I knew what evidence was going to clinch the arrest, but Green kept me guessing on the killer. For a woman who hates being wrong (ask my husband), it feels so good when you’re reading a book. PROVE. ME. WRONG. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. and I’ll come back begging from more.⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
This book was fast-paced and didn’t require a lot of thinking. I love that it is the first in a series, so it will be a reliable grouping of books that I can turn to when I am in the mood for a fast-paced book that doesn’t require too much from the reader. While the content warnings are heavy, the very genre of the book demands heavy in some respects. If I am comparing a book to television programming (we all know there is no comparison), this would be main-stream cable series, not an HBO show. The subject-matter is obviously disturbing, but no more so than watching a criminal minds episode. So find yourself a comfy spot, ask @bookbagofsnacks for a suggestion on a nibble and you’ll be one happy customer. ⁣⁣⁣
