I really struggled to connect with this text. I appreciate the motivation of the author, but it fell short for me unfortunately.

The author approached this book with a lot of context and description about the family dynamic involved in worship. Given the background of Sologub in biblical scholarship, I picked up this book with great intgrigue. Ideas in this book offered fresh perspective in ways discipling can be accomplished in natural settings with a colloquial, minimal-pressure flow. I'd recommend this book to families.

Kitchen Table Devotions
Worshiping God from A-Z as a Family
by Sergey Sologub
Back of the Book: “Experience the joy of worshipping God as a family.
Discover how your home can become a house of worship with Kitchen Table Devotions: Worshipping God from A-Z as a Family. This 26-day devotional is a thoughtful but simple way for parents to creatively teach their children about the characteristics of the Lord. These devotions follow the letters of the alphabet so children of all ages can engage with the story, Scripture, and prayer of each devotion. Parents will feel empowered and equipped to lead their families in worship and learn practical guidance for how to make this special time part of your family’s consistent rhythm of life.
So gather around the kitchen table, settle into the living room, or make space wherever your family enjoys being together, and delight in the beauty of worshipping the Lord together.”
Impressions: I liked this book and the idea of sharing a devotional time to get to know God better as a family.
Liked: I loved the idea of making intentional time to praise, worship, and talk about God with my family. Prioritizing to make family and personal time to learn and grow in our faith is something I desire my kids to learn while they are young.
Disliked: Part one was harder to read. It was more personal experiences and background. It made for dry spots where I just wanted the author to get to the point. I feel like the first section could have been condensed and this book would have been an easier and more enjoyable read.
Learned: I learned how to talk with my children as they grow and begin developing a relationship with Christ. Teaching them to make their relationship their own was something I was unsure how to handle with my sons.

I am currently going through the ABC attributes of God written in this book with my son. He likes coming up with an attribute of God for each letter before we read the passage. I admire what the author implemented in his family (a family worship time once a week), even though I am just using it in the mornings with my son right now. If we do decide to have a weekly family worship night, this book has given me a good foundation for starting it. The book is translated from a different language, and I think it's neat to read about the faith of someone who lives abroad.

This book is written in autobiographical style were the pastor describes leading his own family in devotional practices. I found it hard to get into the reading and, in fact, was only motivated to keep going because I was reviewing for this platform. I found it hard to relate to them as they seemed so "super-spiritual'. Perhaps all pastors families spend huge amounts of time worshipping together, but my family doesn't. Perhaps all pastors train their children to lead devotional practices from a young age but this is not my experience. Thus, I found it difficult to relate. We are just a regular Christian family. The style of language was also quite detached, even superior-sounding sometimes but perhaps that is because (I think) English is not the author's first language. Nevertheless, all these things together made me feel the book wouldn't ever be something I would find helpful.
It did get better. I'm glad I persevered because authenticity shone through at times and the family became one "regular" people might identify with sometimes. For me though, these parts came too late.
If I hadn't been reading to review it for this platform I think I would have given up.

I received this ARC from Netgalley for my honest review.

This is my first book from this author and I really enjoyed his writing style. The ideas within the book are wonderful, and I started a whole notebook writing them down. We are a new family to religion and with a four year old there were many ideas throughout the book that I am hoping to make work within our family. I loved the whole approach to learning, and my husband and I will definitely be doing the once a week switching up learning styles. If you are looking for great and unique ideas for bringing the lord into you and your families lives this book is a must.

This book was interesting and really got me thinking about how different people interpret worship. I enjoyed learning how each of the members of the family planned different types of worship activities. Sometimes we need to think outside the box to reach others or to make things not feel “stale”.

As a youth pastor with my local church, I found this book very useful not only for myself but also for the younger children I help mentor. I do not have children of my own yet but this has already given be wonderful and hopeful ways to help my own children in the future find their own path with God.

The layout of the book and the varies lists help myself keep the child engaged for longer periods of time. The book is also useful during the latest pandemic as it's adaptable to every situation.

I look forward to using the book one day with my own children.

Kitchen Table Devotions gives the reader a number of examples of how a Christian family can spend time in devotion to God. The author talks about how the idea developed and how the Lord impressed it on his heart. I appreciate that he included a list of the different attributes of God to help families discuss and praise God for those attributes. Also enjoyed that the model he used was not rigid and only one way but used many examples of unorthodox ways a family can have devotions and still bring glory to God.

Kitchen Table Devotions is a wonderful inspiration and such a good book for all those who have a family. Having family devotions is an important thing, yet it can be difficult to keep the children interested. The Kitchen Table Devotions offers wonderful ideas for doing family devotions. I also like the idea of worshipping God from A to Z and doing that for devotions.

This is an amazing devotional, that tugs on the hearts of families, grandparents and children. I am always looking for ways to pull my children into my devotional time and so many times, I can't hold their interest.

I haven't tried it yet, but I believe this devotional will hold their attention and give them a reason to sit with me while we do it.

I love the layout and the well thought out words they've written. I can't wait to go through the devotional slowly and each day, and take time to soak in all the words. I will be suggesting this to my parents and to my friends as well.

Overall I enjoyed the book. To note, the kindle edition as it currently is (August 2020), needs some work, as the page numbers are in the middle of the page. Nothing terrible and I'm sure it will be fixed and adjusted when it is released.

The main part of the book is what I would describe as the alphabet devotions. I enjoyed and appreciated the content, questions, and devotional for that section of the book. Could I create my own alphabet devotion like this book? Yes, but why reinvent the wheel. I also feel like the devotions would apply and attract a wide variety of ages.

I really enjoyed the surrounding and support material the author includes. It explores how he ended up creating the alphabet devotions and his steps of developing the devotions.

Overall, I appreciated the book and all of the contents. It helps me to appreciate that devotion times with the family doesn't have to be perfect and problem free. Times of family devotion is more important than not having them. I believe this book will be a great help to families to have family devotions. Pick it up now on pre-order on Amazon.
