This is the second in a series. The stories are a parody of Edgar Allen Poe stories written by various authors. The stories were very uneven. Some I enjoyed but others were just flat. A lot of the humor was too corny for my taste. I did really like the artwork. It was wonderfully creepy. Fans of Poe may enjoy reading some of these stories. I liked the first volume better.

I loved Snifter of Terror Volume 1 so when I had an opportunity to get Volume 2 I didn't hesitate. Unfortunately, there were some issues with the digital download so that only about half of the stories were visible. Based on what I was able to read I wasn't too impressed.

Where Volume 1 was full of irreverent, campy fun Volume 2 seemed way too self-aware. Trying too hard. With the exception of a really great take on The Raven the other stories were just bland. I give three stars as a benefit of the doubt that the stories that I wasn't able to read were better than the ones I could read. Based solely on what I read my rating would be a full star lower.

Contains strong language.

This collection was more solid than the first one, so that's cool. "The Leprechaun King," "The Black Cat," and "The Raven" were the standouts in this batch, though all the stories were pretty good. I also enjoyed the prose stories and poems between the comics. Good art, better stories, let's see what happens with Volume 3!

Who has not heard of Edgar Allen Poe? He is famous for his horror stories. This book has “Poe and the Black Cat” comic strips that done quite well. I loved the way the stories were written with humor and more. There are some twists that I thought were quite inventive too. I enjoyed the poetry which I don’t usually. The authors and the illustrations in this book are fantastic! If you are an Edgar Allen Poe fan, you need to read this.

Part parody, part homage, and fully camp, the Snifter of Terror Vol 2 is great for Poe fans that can take a bit of friendly ribbing. It’s the Mad Magazine of Poe.

There are graphic short stories, prose short stories, and poems within these pages. Some are mashups of more than one Poe story. Others are clever updates to them. I particularly enjoyed The Raven. It seems Lenore’s father is hiring a raven actor to mess with Poe at midnight. I also liked a prose story called Eggs of the Dog That Bit You. It had a nice twist at the end.

The Snifter of Terror Vol 2 is an entertaining comic spoof of Poe’s tales. Definitely more humorous than horrifying. 4 stars

Thanks to Toykopop, Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Edgar Allan Poe’s famous short stories in a graphic novel! I loved every bit of this! A creative twist to each of the stories that translates wonderfully into comic form. The illustrations are nothing short of amazing!

A second collection of these comic works, that would be enough to get a Poe purist spinning in their bricked up wine cellar, if they didn't have the attitude that irreverence and reference can go well together. They certainly do with the opener here, which manages to crib off just about every single famous Poe work, and not to the detriment at all of their memory. We get a connection previously unexpected between 'Lenore' and 'The Raven', and an unexpected motive for the bird. 'The Pit and the Pendulum' is most different – and even come at us in this light-hearted tale in a different order than in the original. Not all the pieces are really, thoroughly connected to Poe – especially the prose pages, which try too hard, bar Lisa R Jonte, Grant "My Research, Yo!" Morrison and one or two more, to be awful, and nearly succeed – but when they are Poe-ified they pretty much demand our attention. So again the selection and editing could be a lot better, but this frivolity, with Poe forever an alcy apologetically presenting himself and his oeuvre, is at best really quite welcome. A touch generous four stars is what it gets from me.

Another disturbing yet engaging entry in this series. Perfect for fans of horror and comics in any format.

This text caught my eye when I saw Edgar Allan Poe on the cover. He is one of my favorite authors, so I was quickly intrigued to read this. It is interesting how the authors took different horror stories and put their own twist and turns on them.. I have never read a adaptation of Poe’s work that combines all three of his works into one. However, I didn’t care for the story lines much, and they didn’t really intrigue me. Also, I didn’t care for the art style. I think the concept is really cool, but just not for me.
