I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. I don't usually like true life medical books but this one is fascinating great from beginning to end

I got this from NetGalley.
I really enjoyed this book of how they managed to save so many kids by an artificial rib. After deciding that the pins, if bent wrong, could puncture a hole in a lung or other important body part, they developed the titanium rib. They eventually managed to get FDA approval, which saved many lives. 5 Stars for a great story.

"The Titanium Rib" is a fascinating account of how dedicated surgeons, Dr. Melvin Smith and Dr. Robert Campbell, invented a surgical implant to save the lives of small children who would otherwise have suffocated to death due to chest deformities including missing or malformed ribs. An added bonus to the new device is it's aid in straightening out spinal curvature. This book also covers their 17 year struggle to obtain FDA approval for the implant, as well as the search for a manufacturer. Alian Gunn has written an interesting and informative book, which is accompanied by a section of illustrations and photographs.

I would like to thank Netgalley for allowing me to preview this book.
As a mom and a nurse, I was very intrigued by this book. I was excited to read it, as my son will be having surgery soon for a process that I believe was only created because of the work that happened in this book. It was very interesting to me to follow the process and the testing and FDA approval for this life saving procedure. I do not believe the general public has knowledge of all that goes in to getting FDA approval. Thank goodness that these doctors continued on and are able to fix the unfix-able in children.
