Need a little kidnapping, poison, theft, vampirism, ear biting and big butter-and-egg men in your life? Well, it just so happens there's a book for that.

You will be fascinated by the 50 intriguing tales of 50 unusual women, same famous, others not, and may even find yourself rooting for some of them! These women made some rather questionable choices, to say the least.

Really liked the format and illustrations as well as the amount of research this obviously required. The stories were amusing and intriguing and prompted me to further research several of these illustrious ladies and request a few library books on these topics.

My only wish is that this book were more in depth and longer...I wasn't ready to finish it. I understand there is often very limited information available, however.

Hopefully there will be more similar by this author!

I do love women who go against the grain. The fairer sex? My arse! I loved these "ladies." Especially the Pirates! Granted, I have too much explorer in me to be a pirate! The booty and all had no appeal. But, I would have tried to fund a ship full of women to explore the Northwest passage through the Arctic! I think that would have gotten us enough press and doners. Also, I do love the tales of "Madam's." Call it a Miss Kitty thing! The rest? I didn't much care. Bootleggers? Eh..I call them poisoners! Accidental or otherwise. Gamblers? My game is Blackjack. Poker? Ferggedabouddit! I haven't a poker face. It's damn near embarrassing how much my face gives away!!
I mostly liked this book because it gave slightly more than a character sketch. Not as much as I wanted, but enough that I didn't spend hours searching for more!

3.5 stars! I loved the concept of this book.
The author did a fantastic job at researching all the ladies mentioned and described them very well. I just wished that there was MORE on some of the women. I felt like some of the stories were extremely short and I would have loved to have known more about them.

I was thrilled when my request was approved; I love these types of collections; stories of fiery, independent women whose tales and exploits have been forgotten over time.

The author brings to life 50 incredible, amazing women, some famous like Ma Barker and Bonnie Parker, but most have flown under the radar and this book gives them credit where credit is due.

These women defied society's expectations of what their genders are expected to be; quiet, demure, a housewife, a mother, a daughter, a law abiding individual.

They were audacious, smart, wily, and lived life on their own terms.

They were wild and free, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and caregivers, but above all, they were all women ahead of their time.

My only caveat was how short Lawbreaking Ladies was.

I understand historical information and background was difficult to gather on some ladies but I would have loved more exposition and details.
