This book provides an easy to grasp intro to embroidery. I picked it up mistakenly thinking it was cross-stitch specific, this book does not cover cross-stitch (but it’s not meant to). The patterns are cute and can be easily modified with varying colors. The author has broken down each shape in the pattern to make it easy to branch out and create your own patterns with the foundational skills covered in this book. Definitely want to have this on my shelf for any intro embroidery work (especially for gifts for new borns!).

Thank you Jessica Long for this amazing embroidery workbook!
This workbook is filled with loads of useful information from start to finish. I appreciate especially the detailed explanation on how to do shading, as this is the one technique that I always have trouble with. Can't wait to start my new embroidery project based on all the techniques I learnt from this workbook!

This is a fun book!

A bit advanced for beginners, but there are nice drawings of stitches and patterns you can use to create these cute animals!

I especially like the bunnies and the elephant! There's color pictures of what the finished product should look like and pages in the back of the patterns to use. There's helpful tips for newbies too and step by step instructions of how to complete the pieces.

Overall it's a pretty comprehensive book, but is a bit intimidating.

This Animal Embroidery Workbook is full of whimsical critter patterns. I had been hoping to learn how to embroider and this book has given me the confidence to start! The author wrote a such an inspiring introduction to her book and was very thorough in covering everything a beginner needs to start embroidering. Even the pattern instructions are simple enough for beginners to understand.

Jessica Long's book is well detailed and shows a large variety of animals. I especially like the two squirrels sharing a nut and the panda sewing. I originally looked at the book on my kindle, and did not see as many of the illustrations nor the actual patterns to trace. Had to reload onto adobe on my computer and then all was revealed. Still can't print out the patterns, but nice to see. Wish the kindle would have worked, otherwise I highly recommend this embroidery book of fun patterns.

ANIMAL EMBROIDERY WORKBOOK

This is easily the most beautiful animal embroidery book I've ever seen (and I was a librarian for over 35 years!!) The designs and stitched items are gorgeous as are the photographs. So colourful and delightful - it makes my artist heart happy!

The author loves to paint and draw, and had aspired to become an natural history illustrator once. She is now a full time hand embroidery instructor and pattern designer. Her skills as Teacher, Artist, Designer and Stitcher have combined to produce this top-notch book. I feel that sometimes designers are not willing to share their beautiful designs all in one book – some projects tend to be not as nice - but it is not the case here for Jessica Long. All the designs here are literally as pretty as a picture! Ms Long has obviously chosen and worked out every project with pride and care.

The first part of the book is wisely reserved for the easier patterns. Beginners can start there. The latter parts get a bit more complicated, needing more experienced hands which anyone can attain with practice. All basic information and line patterns are supplied so anyone can start right away as soon as they have gathered all the supplies (which are minimal unless you want to make pretty necklaces, ornaments and so on.)

If I were to pick up embroidery again, this would definitely be the first one I would refer to.

Thank you Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the ARC. This is my honest opinion.

There is a lot to appreciate about this book as a beginner embroider myself. The introductory material is thorough without being overwhelming. The advice is practically presented and easy to understand. For example, I appreciated the image of needles size versus thread count on page 13, the flowchart for transfer techniques on page 14, and the several methods of finishing techniques (pages 20 - 27), especially the double hoop technique (which is new to me).

The patterns are presented from beginner to advanced, each with its own set of tips and advice for starting, working on, and finishing the projects. There is a variation in design with some delicate lines and heavier, filled in areas. The designs themselves are adorable and attractive. There are patterns at the back for easy copying and transfer for projects.

Overall, a wonderful addition to a library's crafting collection!

OMG (and I never use OMG, being 45 years old, and all...)

Jessica Long's embroidery book it is better than my best expectations. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

It has beautiful designs, clear instructions and I get the feeling that it is capable of covering various levels of embroidery learning. I´m a beginner and I really felt that had several projects that I could start immediately and projects that I could grow into.

A fantastic addition to an embroidery lover's library. Like me!!!
