Cold Wind by Paige Shelton was an engaging murder mystery. Thank you Netgalley for the ebook. Beth moves to Alaska because a stalker kidnapped her for 3 days. Her life is now filled with fear. She begins to get to know her new town while running the newspaper "Petition". One day Beth hears something outside and upon looking, she finds two young girls covered in mud. The girls refuse to speak so she calls the police. She begins to spend time with Gril, a policeman, including exploring an ice cave.

While Cold Wind is the second book in a series, it does just fine as a standalone book. It is open ended enough to tempt you with its sequel while neatly tying up the events of this book. I enjoyed the mysteries, which kept me guessing until near the end, and I felt like I could see the small Alaskan town and wilderness in which they were set. Overall I would call this a very enjoyable book and I will be on the lookout for the sequel. I just hope she writes it soon! Thank you to NetGalley for the advance read copy.

Alaska is like a whole other world to most of us and Beth Rivers it’s her sanctuary. She was attacked and came to Benedict, Alaska to hide from the man who kidnapped her.
Drawn into a murder investigation she uses her deductive skills help solve the crime.
This is a great mystery who done it that keeps you guessing until the very end. Lots of atmosphere and unique characters.

Beth Rivers is beginning to get used to her new home in Alaska, but discovers that with little else to do in the winter, residents read and the risk of them connecting her with best-selling thriller author is greater than anticipated. Meanwhile, back in the lower 48, her mother is stirring up trouble related to her long-lost father and the mysterious kidnapper whom Beth is still hiding from. Fun to read, as Beth gets pulled into a mystery involving two missing little girls and disappearing wives.

COLD WIND, the second book in the Alaska Wild mysteries by Paige Shelton, is another edge-of-your-seat suspenseful read! The author’s descriptions of the remote Alaskan setting and harsh environment adds to the tension. She deftly spins a tale combining the unsolved attack by a stalker on the protagonist, Beth, back in her hometown in St. Louis, along with a murder in her new hideout town in the wilds of Alaska. Adding to the intrigue is the discovery of two young mute girls wandering alone in the rugged landscape. The unfolding of their plight is expertly woven into the mysterious death of a woman who had disappeared several years earlier. This is a series that is best to start with book one since Beth’s memory of the attack is shattered and she slowly remembers fragments of the crime as the story progresses. As her memory gradually comes back and the clues unfold, the chilling plot made it virtually impossible to put the book down. Ms. Shelton has proven, once again, to be a masterful storyteller by writing another intriguing page turner!

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

We end up in Benedict, Alaska again to continue the journey along with author Elizabeth Fairchild, or Beth Rivers for now because she is hiding out from her kidnapper. Beth is still adjusting to her new life in Benedict when she gets two small visitors to her office door. A mudslide has opened new routes into town and we find ourselves meeting a new cast of characters that some of the townspeople didn't know existed. Filled with murder and mystery this new addition to Paige Shelton's Alaska series is really enjoyable. I find myself on the edge of my seat not knowing who to trust and wondering what will happen next. Now that I have read the advanced copy--and will preorder my hard copy I have to wait for the next one.

I can’t even begin to express how much I loved this book, and this series. I feel as if I am in the town of Benedict, Alaska when I,m reading. Beth is acclimating to life in the small, remote, and sometimes wild setting— until another mystery needs to be solved. I admit I didn’t see the end coming, and I can’t wait for the next in this series. Absolutely recommend this and the first book.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me ti read this ARC. It started off great! Beth is a fascinating character, and I love the residents of the town. The book gives a sense of what living in Alaska might be like. The story was pretty good, lots of different things going on, lots of characters who could be "bad guys". When we finally find out what's going on it's WOW! I had some suspicions and a few were right, but others came out of left field. The only thing I'm not a fan of is there's a possible romance. I hope not. I prefer strong women who can stand on their own.

This is the second book in the series by Paige Shelton. I now need to go back and read Thin Ice.
This story definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and not wanting to put the book down. I was kept guessing until the end.
Loved the feel of the town, would love to go to Alaska, the characters are interesting. A great read to escape from everything going on now.
I really like Beth and can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for the opportunity to read this book.

I really enjoy this series. Beth is such a unique character, damaged and hiding in Alaska she always manages to stumble onto murder.

As a writer of twisted stories Beth was abducted and suffered a severe head trauma. Unable to cope she decides to go where she believes no one will find her. I love the off the grid feel of this Alaskan town, the characters in the town fascinate me and I love how the author portrays Beth.

In this second book she is remembering more and more and I feel like we are going to get to her revelation soon. I love the build up and I can’t wait for the next book. This series is a new favorite of mine. All the while she is solving a current conundrum she’s dealing with new developments back home from her abduction. And her mother is a hoot and going off the rails. And who left the note...man I am so excited for the next book. I highly recommend this series.

Location: Benedict, Alaska
Person of Interest: Beth Rivers
Mission: Stay under the radar...until murder!

If you’re a fan of Paige Shelton’s cozy mysteries like I am, this is a nice change of pace! Cold Wind is the second in this Alaskan series and my new favorite. It kept me guessing until the end! I’m normally pretty good at figuring out the mystery/murderer (toot toot), but this one kept me guessing. I didn’t want to stop reading it! Such a great way to escape what’s going on in the world right now! Almost makes you want to run away to Benedict too. Minus the whole murder thing and rare internet (haha). It’s a must read, I cannot wait for publishing day. Thank you Paige for another great read!
