In Clean Mind, Clean Body, Strala Yoga founder Tara Stiles merges Eastern philosophies and practices with several integrative life and wellness coaching strategies to provide a four-week blueprint for recalibrating one’s mental, physical, and spiritual wellness. I’m a particular fan of the ways Stiles emphasizes how our external environments impact our “internal ecosystem.” Her plan outlines an approach for detoxing from unhealthy relationships, device addictions, and the detrimental traditional Western diet. She includes around 20 clean body recipes and encourages readers to reframe and reimagine exercise. While the information provided is helpful, it’s not always accessible, and the plan conflates emotional with mental wellness, giving neither their necessary due to truly deliver a holistic reset. There’s also some trite “best self” language and a lot of “shoulds” that tell but don’t show. Ultimately for me, this book delivered entry-level advice sprinkled with some Cali and Ayurveda cuisine. I was disappointed that there wasn’t anything new here.

I received a digital pre-publication copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an enjoyable and informative read on how to mentally, spiritually, and physically detox. This has a lot of great content and is very adaptable. I loved how the exercises had pictures to show what everything is. There are recipes included for the physical section, though I was a bit disappointed they did not have pictures or nutritional information (beyond calorie counting, it can be necessary for medical conditions that are controlled through diet). While most of the information was not new to me, I still really liked this book.

This is a great book for pandemic times when we all have been letting our health go and are dealing with so much stress. I love the premise of a 4 week program that is simple basic health tips and easy to follow. I enjoyed the different sections on importance of nutrition, sleep, meditation and movement . The author emphasis various techniques anyone can follow to reduce stress and improve your daily health. I highly recommend this book and look forward to incorporating the program into my daily routine.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley. My review is my own.

This is Tara Stiles' first book that I have read. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will most likely read her other books as well and maybe even practice some yoga with her too.

A few months ago, I subscribed to her on FB because I have heard about her for many years and I wanted to know bit more about her and what she stands for. She is so layback, simple and relatable and always looks so relaxed when she invites you through FB live to join her Strala Yoga practice. She says, "join me if you feel a pull". That is the same ease you feel when you read this book, you feel drawn to the message.

The cover of the book is very attractive and so beautiful and the book is very easy to read. It is like she is having a conversation with you. I could have read the book in an entire day, however as I was reading the book, I started to practice what she is advising me to do, which is limit my screen time as I was reading it on my kindle and practice having more balance in my day. and thus I read this book a couple of pages each day and have the messages marinated into my mind. I am so grateful to have received a temporary E-gally from #Netgalley and the publisher Dey Street Books.

What I mostly like about this book is that it is not your typical detox book, as she encompasses detox fully, and provides a week by week approach to a total detox. Week 1 focuses on mental detox and week 2 on Spiritual detox The third week focuses on change the way we eat so our bodies feel better and the last week focusses on not just moving the body but also on the way we move throughout the day; moving well. This really resonated with me as I have been practicing yoga for sometime and I am becoming aware of how much of how we move matter.

Tara also provides some great and easy to make smoothies and basic recipes all designed to be easy on digestion and nourishing to our bodies. Her section on breathing and breathing exercises is so relevant at all times bit even more so now. She also provides descriptions and photos of simple yoga and Tai Chi exercises, that clearly illustrate that "moving well" does not have to be complicated.

This book is great for everyone as it is such a simple and not complicated guide to living well. This makes it so easy to take what we have learned and apply it to our lives.
I highly recommend #CleanMindCleanBody for yourself and as a gift to your dear loved ones.

The first half of the book is is so inspiring and helpful with tips and tricks. This book breaks down multiple reasons why you could have this problem and then gives you multiple different answers and ways on which you can approach on how to fix this. The second half was a little bit of a trigger for me with a past of an eating disorder and still recovering it was uncomfortable to hear how to achieve the ideal weight etc. definitely wasn’t what I was expecting from the title of the book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I've read a lot of books like this over the years, and to be honest, I wasn't sure this would offer anything new. After having been stuck at home, protecting a high-risk family member for these many months of COVID19, I really feel like I could use a reset, so I thought I'd give it a try.

The book is actually a breath of fresh air, with a very doable 28 day plan of self care. How I love the idea of self care--just for me! I found the ideas within to be very useful--some I already practice such as meditation, but others such as eating healthy I've let fall by the wayside. The nice thing about this book is that you can fit all the suggestions into your day--easily.

I'd recommend this to anyone. We all need a bit of Self care now and then, especially right now.

What a fantastic book to jump start the new year with! Clean Mind, Clean Body is all about reconnecting with yourself and clearing the toxins from your body!

Split into four weeks, 1 month (totally achievable). Week 1 - Mental Cleanse, Week 2 - Spiritual Detox, Week 3 - Change the Way You Eat, and Week 4 - Change the Way You move. Each week focusing on a different piece of health that together create one whole, healthy being.

I loved all the exercises for breathing and movement, tips and techniques to clear the clutter in your mind and body, and practical ways to implement those techniques into everyday life. Clean Mind, Clean Body will help many discover the beauty of their bodies and how to live a life of intention!

I'm excited to implement this into my life starting in January and if you're looking for a reset, this is your guide!

"Deep down what we really want is to be free from the toxic cycles of stress, anxiety, and insecurity. It's uncomfortable to admit how disconnected we have become from our true selves, from our mental, physical and spiritual health and from our relationships with others. We want a better way, but don't know where to begin."

"True healing is simple and it starts within. It begins with a decision and a commitment to change."

Loved loved loved this book. Loved the 28 day program, the lessons, stories, tips, meditation techniques, the recipes. Each week focused on one segment, such as mental cleanse. It also a guide for daily living and applying this to your day, weekdays, weekends. I was given a free copy of this book for review, but ended up pre-ordering the hardcover. It’s a book I want on my keeper-shelf to refer to again and again.

I’ve been so sedentary during COVID that finding CLEAN MIND, CLEAN BODY seemed miraculous. It’s just what I need to get back on track. It offers a gentle 4-week detox program focused on mind, spirit, eating, and movement. Photos of yoga poses plus delicious recipes are included. This book was received as an ARC from Dey Street Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I needed to read a book like this during these tough times to be reminded that just because times our tough, does not mean our bodies have to suffer. Tara Stiles does a remarkable job in displaying the importance of what goes into and comes out of your body is all part of the process and cycle to help you stay healthy and stay alive. I love the four week breakdown and examined how each week should be done to get the best results. Everyone deserves to feel and be their best.

We will consider adding this title to our R in our Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
