I love the cover of this book, but most of the characters in it frustrated me with their selfishness. I had a strong visceral reaction when reading this book. There are several layers of relationships which makes the story messy and complicated. Long, buried secrets, and people acting surreptitiously and then feeling justified for their lies. I felt bad for,the characters who were really hurt and thought that the ones who hurt them could have made their decisions much faster. My favorite character was Milos. I ached for him during several scenes. I think he was the most honest out of all the personalities. Perhaps I invested too much in reading this book, but it’s a dangerous game when one plays with people’s emotions and I just think some of,the characters could have figured some stuff out before they carried out certain actions.

A generational novel, emphasizing three generational women,...1942, 2004 and 2019. This book set for the most part in Corfu has all the prerequisites for family secrets, a "heart wrenching drama" and, of course, second chances.. What more could you ask for? I think, at least for myself, I've had enough WWII stories no matter where they are set and how they are resolved. The writing was good, the author did what was expected of such a story, but for now I'm not requesting any more war stories. I will read another book by this author, but only if it's set during different times and not WWI or WWII, I've had my fill. My thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for any honest review.

I was immediately drawn to this book because I love historical fiction and also love the Greece setting, so it was a win-win. The story was good, but I just felt like something was missing. I felt like I wanted more from Sarah’s story but it was very Joey heavy. Overall, it was a good multi-generational historical fiction. 3.5/5 stars. Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
