3.5 stars! This book was wild. I’ve never been so annoyed with a main character before… there were SO many times when she did utterly stupid things and I just wanted to scream at her. But ultimately I enjoyed this, and the ending was super satisfying!

I was SO excited for this one it seemed like a great book unfortunately it was a huge let down. It was just a bunch of bored rich housewives drinking way too much and constantly talking about how it's hot in Texas. The twist was obvious from the jump and there were so many creepy problematic interactions.

[3.5/5] This was a fast-paced, dramatic, and entertaining read, with characters acting badly at every turn.

It’s about a woman who moves to an affluent Texas town. She becomes friendly with a group of women who call themselves The Hunting Wives, and things quickly spiral out of control.

While this was a page-turner with strong writing and a great setting, it was hard to like any of the characters, and some of their actions seemed beyond stupid. 🤦‍♀️ But I also think that was kind of the point? Either way, this definitely kept my interest and reminded me a bit of Big Little Lies. Thriller lovers will eat this one up!

I struggled with this book. I struggled to get hooked and I struggled at how unrealistic the main character was. Or maybe she was truly stupid. Either way, not my deal.

I did however really enjoy the plot line, setting, and writing style.

This book made me feel icky (yes, that's the word for it). A grown woman cheating on her husband with a high school kid, her friend's kid, granted he was 18 but it kind of grossed me out. (No, that doesn't give anything away from the book). I'm not sure how the main character has made it this far in life, throughout the entire book she made one smart decision, you wanted to slap her with every other decision. There was a twist at the end that made it somewhat worth it but it was also somewhat predictable.

DNF at 20%. This had promise and potential but was sooo slow and I just didn't care about any of these rich suburban board housewives. unfortunately just not for me. I also didn't like how the timeline jumped around so unnecessarily.

This book is BANANAS!!! In the best possible way.

You know how you sometimes think how nice life would be if you could just live in one of those idyllic small towns?!? Well, THINK AGAIN!

This small town, Mapleton, Texas, is run by a group of Queen Bees who like to shoot guns, drink bourbon, oh and engage in an illicit affair or two!

Oooh and this is a twisty one too! Who killed the missing teenage girl, and why?

Our protagonist, Sophie, is the newest addition to the Queen Bees. And she dives in head first. Most likely because of her obsession with the leader of the pack, Margot. Before she knows it, Sophie finds herself as a key suspect in the murder investigation and about to lose her perfect life with husband Graham and son Jack.

This book was so much fun to read and listen to. Y’all know I love to be read to while I am reading the physical copy. 😂 THE HUNTING WIVES got me out of my book slump. For which I am thoroughly grateful. 🥰

Sophie has moved back with her young family to the small Texas town she went to high school in from Chicago looking for the Instagram life. Instead she is restless and obsessed with a woman that does seem to have an Instagram life. When Sophie is invited to join their Friday nights she finds that these women are in to shooting, drinking, and looking for excitement. How far is Sophie willing to go to be accepted? Is she willing to risk her family and the life they are building together?

The Hunting Wives
By: May Cobb

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆
Bullets and glamour go hand in hand, right? Well, they do in May Cobb's THE HUNTING WIVES. Imagine a small group of women-highly privileged, paranoid, overindulged, secretive frenemies. Now, toss in a new addition, Sophie, to stir the pot.

I liked Sophie in the beginning, but I loathed her by the end of the story. Honestly, I didn't like any of these women. Sophie's obsessive behavior and self serving excuses propel her to exactly what she deserves. Margot, the ring leader and center of everyone's universe, could not be more egotistical.

Despite the unlikable nature of the characters, I found the book highly entertaining, scandalous, provocative, unpredictable and pretty darn fun to read. May Cobb's smooth writing and apt observations move her uniquely riveting storyline along at a fast clip.

You will find secrets, lies, jealousy and everything else that lies in the dark depths of female friendships here. These women are beyond complicated and so tangled up in each other's lives as to be, essentially, trapped by their own knowledge. Then again, how well do they really know one another? Does anyone know anyone at all? I must say, after reading this story, I wonder more and more about people. My overall impression of THE HUNTING WIVES is favorable, and I think this book is an excellent way to spend an hour or two!

Got a love a juicy book about women behaving badly! If that’s your thing, then this is your book! The women in this book take privilege to the next level and have absolutely NO moral compass! I kept thinking to myself while was reading this, *she did what?* *please tell me she did not just say that!* I generally love books like this but this one pushed it a little too far for even me! It is truly entertaining, but will definitely make you cringe a time or two.

*** Big thank you to Berkley for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

This book was very interesting! I think that the characters were all so well created and the tension in it was very realistic. Very well done mystery.

Oh! I LOVED this one. It was thrilling and had a dark sense of humor to boot. It also helped that I found the characters extremely likeable. This is going to definitely be one of my top reads of the year. May Cobb is going to be an author to not only watch, but I'll be adding her to my "automatically read" list. She will also make an excellent recommendation author.

5/5 stars!

Love Drama? Love to hate the characters in a book because they're all vile and horrible people? Love an addictive thriller that has you turning the pages late into the night?

The Hunting Wives is all of those things. Think soap opera set in suburban Texas. This book may not stick with you forever or change your worldviews, but if you're looking for a beach/vacation read and a way to suspend reality, this is a storyline that you can get lost in for a few hours.

Think Mean Girls meets Desperate Housewives in this highly addictive thriller.

I enjoyed this! It definitely kept me guessing and I devoured the majority of it in one sitting! If there’s one thing I love, it’s morally characters and this book is filled with them! Sophie our protagonist seems good two shoes at first but as the book carries on the audience recognizes her dark side. Margot really gave me Meredith from Parent Trap vibes but more sinister and manipulative… I adored her character and would have loved a book in her POV, ! Overall, entertaining, plot twisty and drama filled! I would definitely recommend this to friends and customers.

Okay so the description of this book is why I requested it.
A story where you don't know who you should root for questioning their motives. Some details I could do without but the story all together was interesting.

Thank you Netgalley for the earc.

This was beyond cheesy. Women don’t act like this ever. Hated the main character with a fiery passion. Hated everything about this story.

This was such a wonderfully written book, that took me on a roller-coaster ride I never wanted to get off! I love reading books where the main character obsesses over another person, be it a love, friend, or someone they don't even know. I was thoroughly entertained the whole time I was reading.

Sophie was an interesting character, and I enjoyed reading about her obsession with Margot. Sophie at first seemed like a pretty normal house wife with a charming husband. Margot changes all of this. She's this well known socialite and I can see why Sophie was so intrigued with her.

Overall I highly recommend this book, if you are a fan of a good thriller with a ton of drama. The choices made throughout this whole book made me want to shake EVERY character. I loved the plot and the wild ride I was taken on.

It’s not just the sweltry weather that is red-hot in Texas. Sophie, her husband Graham and cherub son Jack relocated from stressful Chicago to the sleepy town of Mapleton, Texas to enjoy a simpler and slower lifestyle. Sophie, a successful blogger, thought gardening and cooking perfect meals would be enough, but boredom and loneliness strain this idyllic life. When she catches the eye of sultry socialite Margot Banks and her coterie of rich and naughty friends, Sophie is captivated. Soon she is invited to their secret club. Soon she is obsessed.

At a remote lake house, whiskey is generously poured and skeet-shooting begins. Eager to be included and fascinated by their sexually suggestive play, Sophie finds she cannot resist the allure of these women, nor the seductive young men who appear in the wee hours. When teenager Abby Wilson is found murdered, shot, in the water, Sophie finds herself scrutinized under the penetrating gaze of the law. She has everything to lose.

This is a clever twisty plot in an excessively alcohol-infused, sexually charged thriller. Gossipy, scandalous housewives behaving badly rule this story.

OKAY WOW. I was not expecting any of that.

I seriously thought I had the whole thing figured out 10% into the book and what a dummy I was (or am).

This is a wild ride of drinking, shooting, affairs, murder, death, and false accusations. Part of me hated this and the other part is still blown away by it.

I seriously read it in one sitting - could not put it down. I was completely surprised by the end reveal.

I kept wanting to yell at Sophie and tell her to stop accepting wine from these wives. Oof. I don't know how people can drink so much.

ANYWAY, I definitely recommend this.
