Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Einstein’s theory of relativity is magnificent. It is imaginative, surprising and, up to this day, accurate and reliable.
This book, written by Carl Wilkinson and illustrated by James Weston Lewis, presents it in an excellent, clear and attractive way.
First of all it is a book to leaf through, to admire its full-page images: images of spaceships, prisms, rainbows, superfast trains, watches, curved rays of light, heavy planets, ghost stars...
The text boxes are clear and well built, providing the right amount of information at the right time.
If you have never read anything about relativity, this book is perfect for (starting to) understand it. If you already know the subject, you will appreciate the elegance and richness of these pages.
In short, it is a very beautiful book, well-edited, super in format and content. Suitable for everyone, including you and me.

This book is brilliant, well illustrated and packed full of information. Suitable for slightly older children as well as younger, there’s something in this book for everyone. Perfect for the classroom Maths/science corner.

3.5/5

Carl Wilkinson’s "Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity" is a collection of Albert Einstein’s theories condensed in bit-sized and beautifully illustrated pieces. The book covers what was known of different concepts such as light, space and gravity before Einstein’s time and what eventually came of his work in the field of physics.

Written in an engaging way, "Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity" works sufficiently as an introduction book for adults and preteens alike, but does include some rather complex wording at times. There also was a focus put on some details (such as the history of the Nobel prize) that could have been substituted with more detailed explanations and examples of Einstein's theories. In the same manner, I wish more focus would have been put on Einstein's life outside his work in physics.

I think that the illustrations by James Weston-Lewis did greatly benefit the story as they did provide context to the text and thus also helped the reader understand the theories better. The illustrations and the page layouts all in all were well-thought-out and beautiful, making the reading experience very pleasant.

Some of the most complicated maths and theories about the nature of the world explained so simply that even I could follow along. No amount of high school science ever taught me as much as this book did!
The illustrations make this a real treasure. I would love to own a hard copy of this book!
My appreciation for space and time travel stories definitely went up after reading this.
The parts about Einstein's personal life were also interesting.
