What a fun retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice! Fresh and new, yet rings with the never-changing foundation of Austen's original story. Always a fan of a good murder mystery, I enjoyed the playful way the story was retold as a murder investigation. The enemies-to-lover's trope is a common one to find, but the author executed it well. Lizzie is a strong MC, and though the story was quite empowering of women[e.g. Mr. Bennet let his daughter take a much large role in their firm that many women of her day would have been allowed], the feminist theme wasn't overdone.

Lots to love. I highly recommend it.

Loved this retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I really didn’t know what to expect, but a young lady aspiring to be a lawyer just did not happen back in Jane Austen days. Pride and Premeditation is the first book of three retellings. Lizzie has always wanted to be a lawyer, and when a murder happens to a society member, she takes on the investigation on her own. She wanted to prove to her father that she could finally have her dreams come true if she could solve the case. Lots of twists in this novel till the end revealed the truth. Thank you to Ms. Price, Harper Audio, and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review this book. The original audio expired, so I checked the audiobook out from the library. Truly enjoyed the narrator for this book. Really enjoyed this one and will recommend it to our avid readers in the classroom.

I love retellings, but I especially love Pride and Prejudice retellings. I went into this book thinking it was a retelling, but by the end, I realized this is more of a murder mystery that uses the characters' names from Pride and Prejudice, and it also fits in some tidbits from the classic novel, but it is not a retelling. Thinking of this book in this manner made me enjoy it more.

Lizzie Bennet wants to be a barrister, but in Regency England, women working in the law is not done. Her father owns a successful firm, Longbourn and Sons, but with no sons, it looks like the odious Mr. Collins will be taking it over. Mr. Bennet tells Lizzie to solve a case on her own to prove she can do the job. When she learns of the murder of Mr. Hurst, she is determined to solve the case to prove herself to her father. When she runs into Mr. Darcy who is also working on the case, how will Lizzie show her true mettle? Will she be able to solve the crime before Mr. Darcy?

I will be honest here, I didn’t like the book at first, but it grew on me. I was expecting a lighthearted young adult, Pride and Prejudice retelling. This is more a “murder mystery makeover” as the back cover states. What I didn’t like at first is that I had to check to see if it was set in the Regency era. Lizzy was always walking around alone in London, which she would not have done in the Regency era. I also didn’t really feel the chemistry between Darcy and Lizzy. The characters were not well developed. I think if this book would have been set one hundred years later, I would have liked it better. Then Lizzie being a lawyer and walking around town would have been okay. Set in the Regency era, it just didn’t work for me. I did like the mystery and the final conclusion. I loved how Lizzy got her day at court and the credit for solving the crime. I liked this as a murder mystery.

This was a fun retelling of the Pride and Prejudice story, but as a murder mystery, with a feminist Lizzie ! What's not to love? The story had lots of satisfying twists and turns, and there was plenty of the expected sass from the main character. We were kept guessing for most of the book, ( which I love), and there wasn't too much romance, as it was more focused on the murder part.
This is the first in a series, and I look forward to reading more in this vein

Love this series of books. I accidentally read the second one first but had such a great time with this reimagining that I came back to read this one. Very funny, snarky and I think Jane Austen would approve.

Thanks to NetGalley / Edelweiss and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for a review.

Review:

I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading this book. What I did know was that it had two of my favorite things. One of my favorite books and one of my favorite genres. The only thing I was unsure of is if it was going to follow the original story with a few twists or if it was going to be a story of its own with the same characters. I would have to say it was a little of both. In the best way possible. I really enjoyed reading this story. The twists and turns were amazing. It was really inventive in my opinion. I am excited to learn that there are two other books in this series. I'm looking forward to reading them as well. I also hope there will be more books in this series in the future. Only time will tell!

Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite book. I look forward to retellings. The whodunnit mystery vibe was intriguing. I was hoping for more romance.

I liked the idea of this book and was interested in reading it because of the title for one reason. The other was because of the Jane Austen connection. I have read Pride and Prejudice several times as well as watched many movie versions. Therefore, I wondered what could this book be all about leading me eager to read it. The performance of this audiobook was good and kept me interested in this book. But, it might not be for everyone. It wasn't just the voice, but the content. If you enjoy Jane Austen stories then this adaption will be a joyful listen or read if you decide to read the story instead. Don't let the voice stop you from enjoying this book. Read it instead if that is best for you. This retells the story of Pride and Prejudice, but in a reimagined way as a mystery, which is interesting and well done. You'll notice the characters from the original more than a side-by-side story since it is a murder premise this time, of course. So, if you enjoy mysteries and murder mysteries you will enjoy this too. If you enjoy both genres of writing then this is a perfect combo for you. Since I enjoy both then I was thrilled to read it.

I fun contemporary retelling of Pride and Prejudice with an added bonus of a murder mystery. For young adult readers and those of us who are way beyond our teen years but still enjoy a great story well crafted. I listened to the audiobook, whose narrator was a bit too stiff.

I did not read this book before the audiobook was archived. But I plan to read it soon and purchased the ebook when it became available.

This was such a fun take on the Jane Austin characters! I should have picked this up sooner because it was great. I really liked the narration!

Initially the cover and the TITLE drew me in to this book. I was so excited before we even had a release date because the idea of a Pride and Prejudice retelling but with *murder* sounded like the best thing. And I think the author did the best she could with it.

That being said, I think the allure of a woman doing a predominantly man’s job set in the 1800s or the early 1900s is starting to ware off. I’ve just read so many of them at this point that it’s not as fun or cool or *special* to read about a woman trying to break boundaries and stupid rules that were set for her. If you’re looking for other books like this, then I highly recommend: These Shallow Graves, The Madmen’s Daughter, and even Stalking Jack The Ripper series. There are countless others that do this as well, but these were the few that stuck out to me.

I really did like the murder and the mystery of it and I admit I didn’t guess the murderer which was fun. And it was a neat twist to think about how it could have added to the original story.

But I found as a Pride and Prejudice retelling it didn’t hold up enough to the original story. Sure we got some of the fun lines and some of the characters, but I wanted EVEN more. I’ve also read a bunch of retellings from an Indian Lizzie with Ayesha at Last to Brooklyn versions of Pride. So maybe this was just an “it’s me not you.”

Pride and Premeditation is a novel written by Tirzah Price. It was originally published on April 6th, 2021 by HarperTeen. I was able to obtain an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the audiobook on NetGalley for free in exchange for an honest review.

This book is presented as a twist on the original Victorian novel, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen that was originally published in 1813. While there are still the original characters such as the Bennett family, Mr. Darcy, and Mr. Wickham, there are posed in different situations of how they make a living. For example, Mr. Bennett is a litigator and runs his own firm, and Lizzie is portrayed as an assistant of sorts that likes to help on his investigations. Charlotte is the secretary of the firm, and is portrayed as a woman that is not only older, but has to work to support her family.

Mr. Bingley is portrayed as a possible suspect in the murder of his brother-in-law, and Lizzie takes it upon herself to solve the case to prove to her father that even though she is a woman in the 19th century, she is capable enough to solve cases on her own without Mr. Collins taking credit for them. The only problem is that Mr. Darcy has already taken the case as a favor to his best friend, and the two are forced to work together to help Mr. Bingley avoid a trial.

While this book was enjoyable to me, I did have a little bit difficulty with the audiobook since it was obvious that it was not recorded by a voice, but being read as text-to-speech with a machine. The story was very good, with twists and turns that change the original ending very much, but the ending for Lizzie and Mr. Darcy was pretty abrupt, even though their budding romance was well-established.

I rate this book as 4/5 stars. I would recommend it however, mostly for fans of the cozy mystery genre, and fans of Jane Austen would enjoy it more since they would understand some of the inside jokes within the novel.

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book, and I will read any retelling I can get my hands on. I think adding a murder mystery spin to the story was fun. I just found the whole think enjoyable. The author also did some fun twists with some of the characters that I found really fun. I would have liked more Lizzie/Darcy interaction, but I always want more Lizzie/Darcy interactions.

This was a clever retelling of Price and Prejudice! It had the charm of the original novel! All the characters were very likable! I also like how it had a murder aspect in the story! It gave the retelling an interesting spin! I also like how it mostly stayed faithful to the original! Overall, I recommend this fans of The Jane Austen mysteries, Death Comes to Pemberly, and Ineligible! The narrator did an excellent job! She made all the characters come alive!

Most people know the story Pride and Prejudice, but in this book we have the same characters involved in a murder mystery. Lizzie Bennet wants to become a barrister at her father’s law firm. When a murder takes place she takes this as an opportunity to prove to her father that she deserves the job. However, working against Mr. Darcy proves to be a significant challenge to say the least. Can Lizzie prove herself to be a great addition to her father’s law firm or will she fall short and make a mockery of him?
Thank you to Netgalley, Tirzah Price and Harper Audio for the opportunity to read and review this book. I have to be honest, while I liked this book, I didn’t love it. I didn’t actually get into it until more than halfway through. The storyline was good, as was the writing, but I think maybe I had higher expectations due to it being a retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Just after it was halfway through I started actually getting into it and enjoyed the ending. If you enjoyed the classic Pride and Prejudice and also enjoy murder mysteries, give this one a go! I’m rating this ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Lizzie wants a job in her father’s law firm. Although she’s been helping him, she gets no recognition nor pay. To prove herself worthy of a position, she takes on a case of her own. Mr. Bingley is accused of murdering his brother-in-law, and Lizzie sets out to discover the real murderer. Characters and relationships from Pride and Prejudice are seen in a new light through this mystery. More of a spin than a retelling, it’s a fun story. It does help to be familiar with the original.

I will try pretty much any Pride and Prejudice adaptation and this one did not disappoint! Such a unique and fun take on Elizabeth and Darcy's story. The audiobook was lots of fun as well.

I wish I had noticed that I requested the audiobook instead of the print version. While I do enjoy a good audiobook, I think I would have enjoyed the print version of this book better.

That being said, I think this book did an excellent job with retelling Pride and Prejudice. I think Lizzie stayed true to her original form while also embody the different circumstances.
