I will read any Jane Austen adaptation. But a Jane Austen retelling that is also a whodunnit? Yes, please. Delightful book. Can't wait for the next one.

This was a solid audiobook mystery and I enjoyed the narration of the story.

I received an ARC of this audiobook via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

What a debut! Congratulations Tirzah this was absolutely wonderful. I was worried about how much I would like this because I love Pride and Prejudice so much but man where my worries misplaced.

I thought this was such a fun take on a beloved classic. I’ve always adored Pride and Prejudice and this was a great remix to that. The author kept the same feel for the characters while changing up the story. Lizzie was so interesting to me and I want to be just like her. This book kept me guessing at what would happen next and I greatly enjoyed it!

I did like this book but there was nothing that made me want to keep reading. I also hate open endings or when the couple do not end up togther.

Here is a disclaimer: I have read 2 Jane Austen books and had to switch to audio for Pride and Prejudice. The writing was just hard for me to understand. English is not my native language and the old English made me want to DNF the book. With that being said, this book was a great take on the original story. I loved that the author chose a strong female like Jane Austen did in her book. I love that the author chose a setting in a male dominated profession. This was overall a really good mash of retelling and murder mystery. I'll definitely give the sequel a try when it is released in 2022.

I think, in a normal "book reading" circumstance, I would have loved this story. I didn't care for the narration that comes along with this advanced listeners copy. Normally, anything Jane Austen themed is my jam, but I couldn't get down with the monotone of the narrator and that turned me off completely.

Thank you, Net Galley & HarperTeen for the opportunity to give this a try.

I was very excited about this retelling. The narration didn't work very well for me and I was about to give it 2.8- 3 stars but then I decided to read it. It was a little better but not as much as I was expecting.

The problem with retellings is that somehow they set expectations high,

Though I enjoyed reading it it wasn't as memorable as I thought it was going to be.
I think the main issue was that I stumbled a little with the writing style and the lack of tension. Though the plot was entertaining it fail to keep me really invested and was bored at many parts

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product.

I'm not a huge fan of the classics, but I'm pretty sure I read Pride and Prejudice in high school. I at least know the general storyline and have seen pieces of the movie (the one with Keira Knightley) that I also likely watched in school. (I was big on Spark Notes back then, and during the movie I was probably writing notes to a boyfriend or something equally ridiculous.) Why am I rambling about this? Because I have absolutely no idea why I requested this audiobook, but I am so very happy that I did! I really enjoyed Price's retelling of Lizzie and Darcy, and I even Googled comparisons throughout the book. She made me want to read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, which is really saying something. The murder mystery was a wonderful addition to the story, and I really liked seeing Lizzie fight for herself and her future.

My one small complaint would be the lack of romance between Lizzie and Darcy, despite knowing it was accurate for the time period depicted within the book. I wanted heated looks and stolen moments, more bickering and hate-to-love vibes, even though it was obvious neither character would be so bold or forward with the other. Lizzie wants to one day be a respected barrister or solicitor, so she's willing to push past conventional norms to achieve those goals, but she still tries to adhere to society's rules and expectations regarding ladies and what's appropriate for them when men are involved (walking the streets unchaperoned, being alone in room with them, etc.) It doesn't always work out that way, but she is conscious of her actions and how they may appear to others. I just really wanted Lizzie and Darcy to have more passion and romance between them, but it was a small thing. I liked what was there, I just wanted more.

I really enjoyed seeing how certain events unfolded, and was very surprised by specific revelations (which probably had a lot to do with my vague recollections of the original story). However, I'm sure even the most avid Austen fan will like Price's spin on a beloved classic and the addition of a murder mystery. I thought Lizzie's relationship with her parents was relatable and authentic, despite wanting to shake her mother on more than one occasion. Her daughter's value shouldn't rely on what kind of marriage she can secure, and Lizzie's wishes should have been respected. I know it was common during the time period, but it was still frustrating to see her being ignored and pushed towards a life she clearly didn't want for herself. I also thought her relationship with her sisters was humorous and wish there'd been more interactions between them.

I don't want to say too much about the murder mystery itself, because I don't want to spoil anything on accident. Every clue and revelation meant something, so talking about any of the other secondary characters could potentially give something away. You should definitely go into this book with as little knowledge as possible! Already knowing and being familiar with Pride and Prejudice will give you some insight, but not enough to spoil the story. Definitely keep this book on your radar if you enjoy Austen, historical fiction, or murder mysteries! (★★★★☆)

Side note: Synthetic voices are weird. It sounded like a normal narrator, but it lacked variation. Every character sounded the same, there were no long pauses or heavy sighs, and you have to really pay attention to the details so you don't miss anything important. It's not horrible to listen to, but I would like to listen to this one again when it's properly narrated.

I love a good Austen retelling and this one was definitely inventive and entertaining. I would have liked to see a bit cleaner writing to do the original justice, but overall it was a good story. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

This is such a fun and different way to adapt a Jane Austen novel! There is a sense of familiarity with the characters which allows you to kind of guess which roles they fill but seeing it play out was so fun and I think anyone who loves Jane Austen would enjoy this thriller/mystery adaptation of the story.

Thank you Harper Teen Audio for the eARC via netgalley.

*I will add that I waited for the audiobook to release so I could listen to on audio. The netgalley audio is not very user friendly so I will be sticking to ebooks on there now.

There is a murderer on the loose in London. When young Mr. Bingley is accused of murder, Lizzie Bennet is determined to see if this is the case. Lizzie soon realizes that the actual murderer may still be loose and she is determined to find the real truth. Lizzie meets a serious Mr. Darcy along the way and she is determined to not let him or anyone stand in her way. Lizzie wants to prove to herself and others that she has what it takes to be in this field.

This is a Pride and Prejudice retelling that is perfect for young readers. I think that at the core this author does a decent job with these characters. I think that young adults would enjoy this retelling in the way that is presented.

Overall I think that these Jane Austen retelling ideas for crime solving and sleuthing are a very interesting concept to explore in young adult literature. I think that the characters and world are fleshed out pretty well overall.

I loved how ambitious and headstrong Lizzie was. I will say that Mr. Darcy kind of felt a bit lackluster overall to me. The crime storyline idea is very interesting but I wish it was a bit stronger overall.

This was a pretty average read for me personally, but it was enjoyable.

When there’s a scandalous murder in London, aspiring lawyer Elizabeth Bennet uses the opportunity to get some experience. She comes up against Fitzwilliam Darcy, a lawyer at Pemberley Associates. Lizzie wants to prove to her father that she can be a lawyer at their law firm by solving the murder and prove that Darcy’s friend Bingley is innocent. However, the case is much more complicated than Lizzie expected and puts her life in danger, with Darcy being the only one who can save her.

This is a fun twist on Pride and Prejudice. I love different retellings of this classic romance. This one was set in the late 1800s, with Lizzie aspiring to follow her father’s footsteps in their law firm. If she can’t prove herself to him, the law firm will be inherited by his cousin, Mr. Collins. Many of the themes and relationships were the same as the original story, but they had the added layer of a murder trial.

I really liked the ending of this book. All of the characters that I didn’t like in Pride and Prejudice had to face justice in this book. This was a slightly more modern take on the story, since Lizzie wanted a career as a lawyer, yet it was still historical fiction. I listened to the audiobook edition. It was really well done and easy to follow.

Pride and Premeditation is a great adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

Thank you HarperTeen for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

What a DELIGHTFUL Pride and Prejudice retelling/mystery! I loved this clever novel and its twisty (not too gory) murder mystery. Tirzah Price's writing is vibrant and fun while staying true to Jane Austen's vibes. Her use of the characters and plot from the original book in new ways was genius! In addition to listening to the fabulous audio, I also read the print version and recommend them both to Agatha Christie and Jane Austen fans. I was so glad when my mystery book buddy group chose this book for a monthly read! Cannot wait for the next in the series. (PLUS that cover is so PRETTY!)
Thank you to HarperTeen, Netgalley, and the author for the advanced audio, reviews are my own!

For everyone that loves thrillers and the traditional Pride & Prejudice, this is a 5 star read! I absolutely loved the audiobook! This was my first time receiving an audiobook from NetGalley, and it was an absolute treat. The author did such a nice job of staying true to the original characters yet building upon what makes the perfect mystery. Loved seeing a different take on the characters and the whole atmosphere of the book! Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review!

a fun pride and prejudice retelling. I wouldn't pick this as my top austen retelling... or even in my top 10? but it was a solid book with an entertaining backdrop of murder!

This was such a unique taste on such a classic story. Although the narrator was a bit confusing at times, I really enjoyed this story. I definitely was invested and know others will love this book! I had a great time with it!

First of all I love that #NetGalley is doing audio books now! Yay! Also, I am a sucker for anything Jane Austen, even adaptations of her books. I've read soooo many!
In this variation of Pride and Prejudice we have Elizabeth Bennet as an aspiring lawyer. She is up against so staggering odds since she is a woman. But we all know Lizzie is made of stern stuff. She wants to help Bingley who has been accused of murder. But he has already hired Darcy to represent him. If she wants to be taken seriously by the men in her life she must work with Darcy to find who the murderer is and free Bingley.
Some of the classic lines were rewritten in a way that makes them fun. I enjoyed the book immensely and will add it to my short list of Jane Austen adaptations.
