As with previous playful riffs on Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice (see Bridget Jones’s Diary, Longbourn, or my personal favourite: Pride & Prejudice & Zombies), this novel features the familiar cast of characters and cheeky wit that all Austen fans know and love.

In Pride & Premeditation, the Bennett family becomes embroiled in a murder mystery. Mr. Bennett is a barrister who owns a law office, Longbourn & Sons, the family firm in which there are no actual sons. Elizabeth is essentially an intern trying to impress her dad so that he’ll take her investigating skills seriously—after all, isn’t she just a girl?—and give her a real job. Elizabeth becomes a Victorian Nancy Drew to get to the bottom of a compelling murder case and sparks fly as she finds herself in a well-matched battle of wits against Mr. Darcy, solicitor from a competing family firm.

With entirely characteristic appearances from Bingley, Wickham, and even Mr. Collins, the plot makes so many unexpected twists and turns that even the most astute sleuth will never guess whodunnit!

This book is for you if you love Pride & Prejudice, Nancy Drew, historical settings, cozy mysteries… I have already begun telling readers to keep an eye out for this upcoming title!

Pride and Premeditation was a very enjoyable listen. The audiobook felt like it flew by.

I enjoyed the fresh take on this story. While it is not historically accurate, it is still a blast. I appreciate unique retellings of Jane Austen’s stories and this audiobook fits the bill on that. The ending is not what I was expecting, which made this book even better.

I would easily listen to more books written by Tirzah Price. I hope she does more books in this same style.

Since this review copy was dictated through a synthetic voice, I have no comment on the narrator.

I received an advanced audiobook copy from Harper Audio and HarperTeen through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

I was unable to download this audio book on the Netgalley app. So I have nothing really to say about the book. Please ignore the rating, as I was unable to actually access the title.

Thank you NetGalley for this fun murder mystery novel! I will start off and say I’m not familiar with Pride and Prejudice so I can’t speak on how it relates to that story, but what I can say is this book was a lot of fun beginning to end! We’re following Lizzie Bennet, who’s trying to prove to her father and everyone else that she can be a solicitor just like any man can. She’s worked under her father for some time now and grows increasingly frustrated when men take the credit for all her hard work. When a society man is murdered, Lizzie finds a way to insert herself in order to help solve this case. Along the way, she runs into several obstacles, main of which is Darcy, a man who does not want her help in solving the murder of his friend. This book is so fun as we follow Lizzie piecing the clues together and finding a way for herself. I would recommend if your looking for a good historical murder mystery! I will definitely check out more in this series as they come!

I'm a sucker for an original idea and Jane Austen's PRIDE & PREJUDICE reimagined as a mystery novel with Lizzie Bennet as the girl detective was too delicious to resist! I wasn't disappointed and while Austen fans will delight in familiar characters and tropes played out in novel ways, even someone who hasn't read Austen can enjoy this fun and engaging mystery. I couldn't put it down!

* I was provided an audiobook arc by NetGalley in exchange for a review*

This retelling of Jane Austen’s novel is clever and witty, and an absolute pleasure to read. Elizabeth “Lizzy” stuck in society’s role for women, sets out to prove herself capable of being an attorney in her father’s firm. She hears about a case and decides this is the one that will establish her. She then meets her competition, Fitzwilliam Darcy, and together, though not always with ease, they investigate.

This book is incredibly entertaining, it’s truly a fun read. The character interaction is perfect, and it doesn’t stray too far from the beloved classic that it becomes unrecognizable, while still keeping the retelling fresh. I really enjoyed it and look forward to Lizzie’s next adventure.

As a huge Jane Austen fan and more so Pride and Prejudice fan. Was I excited to see this pop up! I just want to say, I did get to listen to the audio book first. The audiobook does not represent the book, and I did have to remind myself that a few times (I’m a huge audio book lover, I listen while I buy books for stores.) Which did make it a bit hard for me to enjoy the book.

I did enjoy the book though! I mean come on! Lizzie a BA detective! Mr. Darcy a sexy lawyer!!! Yes please! Now, this is not my first retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I would have to give the plot a 4. I could tell the author did her research, and try her best to keep Jane’s P&P but, had her own spin to the story. That I enjoyed (I’ve read many retellings where they just reworked the whole P&P plot!!! That’s not what we retelling fans want!)

I think this a great book, for fans of the ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’ Series (which is my top 5 favorite series!) I do want to add, I really thought I figured out who the murderer was, but man was I surprised! I will be looking at for the next books in the Austen Murder Mystery series!

3.5 stars over all book
4 stars for the plot

Will order in a copy for my stores!

This was my first Netgalley e-book, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was a digitally read copy, meaning an artificial intelligence read the book. Though it wasn't the full immersion experience of a voice actor read book, it wasn't bad. I was quite impressed with the voice-over, and it didn't take too terribly much away from the experience in this particular book, but I could see how it could in an action/epic saga type of book.

As for the book itself, I loved it! I've read modern-day retellings and also "sequel" type stories (I'm an avid Austen fan) so this book was new for me because it was set in a historic time period, but instead of Lizzy being a proper lady, she is instead trying to break into the work force! I adored the premise, which was why I requested the book.

I loved this take. Even though you think you know the characters and what will happen, you don't! There are still twists and turns and surprises, and possibly room for a sequel. What WHAT???

The author captures Lizzy so well, which is usually my biggest complaint in a retelling. Lizzy's stubbornness and wit are what makes us all love her, and if the author doesn't capture it perfectly it can ruin the whole experience. But it doesn't here. She's imperfect in all the ways we love - trying to have all the same rights as a man in an age where that just wasn't done, always trying to break out of the box everyone puts her in. I loved her here, trying to have a career in law and competing with Darcy for a case! Sooo good. I can't say enough about this one. There were even certain points in the story that I liked - dare I say - better, people that got more Karma than they did in the original story! I won't tell you who!

So if you're an Austen fan, I think you'll really love this one! 4/5, if there's a sequel I'm reading it!

I had high expectations for this one, and it met them.
I am really looking forward to listening to this book with the studio recording. The robot voice wasn't *bad* just didn't emote so I had to rewind a few times to get the point. This isn't a flaw in the book, but the robot audio.

I thought this book would either miss beats of Pride and Prejudice or the mystery would be lacking, but it wasn't. I thought I knew walking in how the story would go, from my evaluation of P&P characters, but no, I was wrong and the murder mystery was well built and interesting. And it still kept the beats of the romance story so many of us love.

This was really good. I'm so happy I got a chance to listen early. I can't wait to check out the audio with the human narrator when it's released!

Such a fun reimagining of a favorite! Pride and Prejudice is near and dear to my heart, and here I found those beloved characters come to life again in their modern equivalents.

I received an audiobook arc of Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, the audiobook arc was a synthetic voice instead of an actual narrator, so it was very hard for me to discern who was speaking.
I'll start by saying that the only Pride and Prejudice story that I've seen is Pride + Prejudice + Zombies. I did try to watch the 2007 movie but got bored 10 minutes in. So when I found Pride and Premeditation I thought that maybe a murder mystery would be the fun twist to the plot that I needed to be engaged with the Pride and Prejudice story.
As someone who didn't connect with the original story, the novel was slow-paced for me and I only really got engaged at around 70% when the plot picked up, but I thought the ending was a satisfying conclusion to the story. I think that the implementation of Lizzie Bennet solving a murder made the story seem like a game of Clue set in the Pride and Prejudice world, and it was fun trying to guess whodunit alongside Lizzie. I like the enemies to lovers trope, and from what I'd heard before reading this was that Darcy and Lizzie have the enemies to lovers vibe, and this came through in Pride and Premeditation. Overall I liked Lizzie and Darcy's interactions and relationship throughout the story and despite not being that familiar with the source material.
I think that if you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice then you will like this story, overall I think I would give it 3 out of 5 stars as it is a solid retelling in my opinion and the murder mystery was entertaining.

I love a good P&P retelling. This one was so fresh yet stuck to the original close enough that I felt like I could hand this to teens first and then drag them into the original. Sort of a book like- gateway drug for Pride and Prejudice- lol.

This is a story about a romance consolidated by pride & miscommunication... and a murder!

I adore Pride & Prejudice retellings & this one was particularly enjoyable as it combines a mystery with the usual story at heart.

I cannot fairly review the audio book as this was not representative of the actual audiobook production, but the story itself was highly enjoyable.

Note: a full review of the story will be posted to the e-ARC & good reads.

I liked this book, but I didn't love it. As far as retellings of Pride and Prejudice go, I thought that this one stuck refreshingly close to the characters! I both read and listened to this book. The audiobook and the book review will be the same since the audiobook was not a true representation of what the final product will be.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to listen to and advanced copy of Pride and Premeditation in exchange for an honest review.
When this book was described as being similar to The Lady Janies series, I knew I had to give it a try. It did not disappoint.
This was a fun and lighthearted retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It lacked Jane Austen’s incredible character development and sharp wit, but it wasn’t attempting to recreate or replace her original work. Pride and Premeditation’s whole purpose is to entertain and provide another retelling to those who need more Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy in their lives.
To those who have never read Pride and Prejudice, I hope this book inspires you to pick it up and read it. To those who can’t get enough Pride and Prejudice in their lives, enjoy this fun little reimagining of the story. But don’t attempt to compare it to Austen’s mastery with words and skill at character development, or you will be disappointed.

This was such an enjoyable book. I found myself reaching into my memories of Pride and Prejudice to remember what the character were like.

Knowing or thinking I had a vague idea of what direction things might take such as Darcy being redeemable was just so much fun. I'm glad that the original idea of character temperament was adhered to. There were times when I was afraid that Mr so and so, was actually going to come out a good guy in this version. Making it even more enjoyable when it flipped and I found out and been taken in as well by his charismatic lies! What an adventure. What to remake an old classic in such a creative engaging and entertaining way. Thank you!

I listened to the audiobook but cannot review that since it was computer generated. It wasn’t half bad, though. Therefore I’m reviewing the content.
I loved this book.I’m a Jane Austen fan so can be critical of fan fiction but this was as close and as far from Pride and Prejudice to be truly enjoyable.I think it would also be interesting to use when teaching P and P to YA students. I also think it could be read by people who’ve never read P and P. But the plot devices of using P and P and some Sherlock Holmes is quite successful. She even has the Regulars!
The plot is intriguing and fun. I truly enjoyed the whodunnit aspect and liked figuring out the culprit.

I would recommend this book to my patrons.

I honestly didn't care much for pride and prejudice but I think I enjoyed this one a little more. It gave me like a Nancy drew vibe while reading it. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my gifted copy.

I thought it was great spin on a classic tale. Interesting characters and humor from time to time. Over an enjoyable read and would recommend for anyone looking for an Austen-esque story.

This audiobook was received as an ARC from Harper Audio-HarperTeen in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This audiobook was very soothing to listen to in the car, plane or even at home in bed because the author's voice was so calming, relaxing and mesmerizing to hear. Following alongside the digital copy, made it easier for imagery and being alongside the ride as Jane solves a murder case and makes a name for herself. All of the mentioned characters were just like their originals Jane Austen first brought to life. I know out of all the versions of retelling Jane Austen's classic tale this is more of a modern take but very enjoyable.

We will consider adding this title to our YAudiobook collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
