Pride and Premeditation was such a fun read! I actually listened to it with the synthesized voice, and even with that, the funny and sarcastic came through loud and clear. I am a huge lover of Pride and Prejudice, so this was so enjoyable and used a lot of the original in such a unique way. I think that even those who haven't read it will love it, and the mystery will be a little more surprising because they won't already know who we hate.

Elizabeth is always the best main character, and Darcy, of course - so I hope we get many more stories with these two!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this one!

Pride and Premeditation is the gripping story of Elizabeth Bennet, a would-be law student hoping to apprentice with her father. To do so, Lizzie must find and solve a case on her own. When a murder occurs, Lizzie is eager to chase down every lead. As she attempts to help the wrongfully accused Mr. Bingley, Mr. Bingley’s actual legal representation is constantly getting in her way. Lizzie hunts for answers and it soon becomes clear that a killer is roaming the streets. However, Lizzie refuses to let the snobby Mr. Darcy or a murderer stand in the way of proving her legal prowess to her father once and for all.

Pride and Prejudice is one of my absolute favorite stories, so I’m always excited to check out a new retelling or take on it. I loved that while romance is an element of the story, Lizzie always stays true to her goals and beliefs. Regardless of the chaos surrounding her, Lizzie fiercely fights against discrimination and never gives up her search for the truth. There are plenty of obstacles ranging from reluctant witnesses, misleading clues, and sexism. I appreciated the clever way that familiar characters are re-imagined. It’s clear that the author has an immense love for the original story and honors that while putting her own murderous twist on the classic tale. I’m looking forward to seeing the next Jane Austen mystery combination from Tirzah Price. Pride and Premeditation releases on March 9, 2021. Thank you to Tirzah Price, Harper Audio, and Netgalley for a free voice galley in exchange for an honest review.

For publisher: I will post my review on Goodreads and Instagram on release day, and I will cross-post my review on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other book websites as well.

Pride and Premeditation was a thrilling murder mystery. Loved how the author put a sort of Agatha Christie twist to the original characters and story. Things are not exactly as they seem as Elizabeth Bennet tries to solve a mystery involving the Bingley family to prove to her father that she can be a successful solicitor. While trying to prove her clients innocence she meets Mr.Darcy who is actually the one representing Bingley. From the start Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship is tumultuous but eventually they learn to work together. I would have never suspected the person who ended up being the murderer. Anyone who is a Pride and Prejudice fan will love this book.

Jane Austen's classic re-imagined. Weve seen Lizzie Bennet battle zombies, why not the solvings a murder whist battling the patriachry?

In this version of the beloved novel Pride and Prejudice we have our dearest Elizabeth Bennet dreaming of one day becoming a Barrister and working at her father's law firm. Desperate to prove herself to her father and anyone who doubts a woman can practice law, Lizzie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. Lizzie sets out to clear Mr. Bingley's good name and find the real killer, with the help of Mr. Bingley’s dearest friend, the ever so reluctant Mr. Darcy.

As you can imagine, anyone who is familiar with Pride and Prejudice can guess as what is to happen next. It's predictable and charming. Anyone who is a lover of this classic will enjoy it.

I did however not enjoy the audiobook itself. The narration from the computer generator didn’t bother me that much at first, but as more and more characters were introduced, I had a hard time figuring out who was speaking. Not an easy listen. Hopefully someone amazing will voice this in the near future!

Kind of a Pride and Prejudice meets Legally Blond. Lizzie Bennet has to navigate social constructs and sexist courtrooms in this very fun Pride and Prejudice alternate universe-kind of tale. I very much enjoyed the mystery at the core of the book, as well as the different takes on some of the characters and their relationships. Seeing Lizzie shine and use that whip-smart brain of hers in a tangible way was awesome. She can solve crimes AND use scathing passive-aggression to rude people? Sign me up.

My biggest complaint is that the other Bennet sisters get mostly ignored. Less time with the annoying Kitty and Lidia was a plus, but I missed Jane a lot. This is a very Lizzie-centric book, so don't expect the full Bennet sisters experience, and you'll be fine.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley, opinions are my own.

I listened to a synthetically voiced advanced copy of the audiobook for Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price. To start, I'll say I adore Jane Austen's stories! I love classics, especially from the great women like Austen and the Brontes. Pride and Prejudice is one of my most recommended books.

Therefore, this P&P retelling from Price was an absolute treat!! The Bennett family is presented to us in true Austen form and the same time period but in different circumstances. Price captured the personalities and relationship dynamics from P&P excellently while telling a new, unique story. The characters were all familiar yet different. The Easter eggs of Jane-isms from her personal quotes and books were so fun! The story is witty, creative, spunky, and complex--everything we love from Austen herself. The whole story unfolded as a beautiful tribute to Jane Austen's legacy, and I appreciated the author's note at the end that discusses just that a bit.

Aside from the retelling aspect, the murder mystery was great too! I was on the edge of my seat guessing what would happen, how would the relationships unfold like the original story, etc. I did not guess the murderer, and I'm thankful for a good unpredictable mystery. The ending was so satisfying! It was easy to follow the details and twists in audio form.

I can't wait to read more from this author! Anyone who loves the classic story, romantic murder mysteries, spunky heroines, and retellings will adore this book! Thank you NetGalley, Harper Teen, and Harper Audio for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this! I found it to be a great retelling, but I couldn't get into the computer synthesized voice at all! I'm excited to reread this when the book comes out.

The audiobook ARC provided by NetGalley was done by a computer generated voice which hugely impacted my enjoyment. I plan on rereading this book either written or audio when fully released in 2021. That being said, if you are a fan of Jane Austen and are looking for a new and unique take on Pride and Prejudice, I would recommend this book! This version would also be a great segway into the classics for new readers to the genre.

I'm very into audiobooks lately and when I saw this one being offered I had to listen to it! The thought of turning Pride and Prejudice into a murder mystery is such an amazing idea. I 100% loved this book. It still had all the familiar characters but in such different forms and settings. Elizabeth is still an obstinate headstrong main character and Darcy is his usual brooding self but all the other characters, beloved or not, are taken by a totally different approach. The whole mystery aspect made this a super quick and fun read. I can't wait to see what's in the next installment!

I received this audiobook for an honest review.

This book is probably one I should have just read instead of listening to. I understand this audio was not what the actual audiobook will sound like so that did not effect my review.

Overall the book was good. I have never read Pride and Prejudice but I have seen the movie. This is a great modern, crime, retelling.

Lizzie Bennet dreams of investigating crimes and seeking justice as a solicitor with her father at Longbourne & Sons. But due to her status as a you g lady in society, she is not welcomed in the professional practice of law. Her father challenges her to solve a case using pure logic in order to win a position with the firm, which leads her on a winding mystery wherein she meets Mr. Darcy, a solicitor for a competing firm.

Pride & Premeditation is such a fun and inventive reimagining of Jane Austen’s iconic story and characters, and Lizzie proves to be a hilarious and fierce narrator. While the story lagged in places, the mystery itself is well-structured and kept me guessing until the last chapter.

I would highly recommend this book to Austen enthusiasts and mystery fans alike!

I am a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice so when I saw this adaptation of Lizzie as a 17 year old who dreams of becoming a barrister like her father, I immediately knew I wanted to pick this one up. Who doesn’t want to read about their favorite headstrong Bennett girl and her hunky, brooding adversary working at competing law firms.
I always look forward to seeing how authors interpret Jane Austen’s characters into the story and what Easter eggs I can spot from the original source material and in this retelling there are quite a few. I found the story itself to be okay, this is a very character driven reimagining so the plot is a little lacking. At certain times while reading I did have to suspend my disbelief at some of the things women were allowed to do. One thing I really didn’t like was the representation of Charlotte being from what I can tell the only person of color (one of her parents was West Indian) being portrayed as the spinster who doesn’t even get the guy because of her skin tone. Overall, this was a pleasant reading experience. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper audio for the arc. All opinions are my own.

4+ stars

In a cute twist on Pride and Prejudice, 17 year old Lizzy Bennet longs to be a solicitor in her father’s law firm but young woman of good standing are not allowed to work. Lizzy investigates and solves a murder to prove herself to her father and others.

The book remains in the Regency period but the author takes some liberties on what a woman can do. I loved seeing all the usual characters and how they are reimagined. Entertaining novel and I look forward to further books in the series.

This was a synthesized audio book so I can’t comment on the narration. It was my second synthesized audio book and this robo-voice had a British accent which entertained me.

I started this one, got bored quickly and had to start over again. But again, I got bored and couldn't stay interested. I am not sure if it is the story line or the synthetic voice that is having that effect on me. Maybe a mixture of both since I've listened to other synthetic voice narrators without a problem. I'll try to it again when the final product comes out.

This was a computer generated audio book- so don’t have the ability to recommend this book or audio book. Unfortunately this is not something easy to listen to.

This was such a fun story. Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite book, and so I’m always critical of other renditions of the book but this booked passed with flying colors. I love that the story did minor changes to the stories but still kept the main theme. I also absolutely loved Lizzy’s character and how spunky, intelligent and confident she was. This will be a story I buy when it is published.

This was a fun read! Jane Austen meets a murder mystery and amateur sleuth!

I will fully admit that I have read a lot of Jane Austen (thanks to university) and not been a huge fan of any so I cannot speak to any of the contrasts between Pride and Prejudice and this book but as a mass consumer of female sleuths going against gender norms of society...I loved this. I liked the liberties Tirzah Price took in order to create Jane's personality and conflict that wasn't just a "being a woman sucks in this time period." The romance with Darcy was very present and I liked the banter/tension/conflict between them.

I did NOT see the twists at the end for who was at fault for the pirating of shits and the murders. I can also really appreciate it wasn't a simple ending with just one bad person.

The cover is absolutely stunning.

*I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.*
When reading a retelling it can at times feel as if you are just rereading the same novel with hints of newness here and there. Pride and Premeditation, however, keeps the essence of the beloved Pride and Prejudice and spins a murder mystery that keeps the readers glued to whatever platform they are reading this novel on. I can almost promise that whatever suspicions you have on what the plot twist(s) will be then you will be sadly mistaken.
Another aspect that I loved about this book is the intentional historical inaccuracies. In the Author's note, Price stated her reasoning as to why she changed aspects such as jobs people could have, and some legalities. These changes made sense for the novel and aided in bringing forth multiple strong female leads that I enjoyed.
I also found myself drawing connections between this book and The Lady Sherlock Series by Sherry Thomas.
If you enjoy murder mysteries, female detectives, and retellings then check this book out when it is released.

This was even better then pride and prejudice and zombies. I loved that it kept a lot of your favourite bits but would have loved if it was a longer book. I wanted more.
