After hitting a deer and running her car off the road, Leah finds herself in a lonely lane with no battery on her mobile phone. She’s not far from home but the accident has affected her ability to travel the distance to get home. Thankfully she sees a nearby house with a light on. Leah makes an enquiry at the house for help and is greeted by Martin Tate, who is more than welcoming. Is this encounter just a coincidence? Little does Leah know that this meeting with Martin Tate will change her life forever.
This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought nothing else could happen, something did! I couldn’t put it down, it was so gripping. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollinsPublishing & One More Chapter for letting me read this.

A good solid thriller that kept my interest right to the last page. I liked the idea of this storyline. An innocent woman unwittingly knocking on a door of a house that has a murder milling about in. There were a couple of loose threads that I would have liked closure on but I enjoyed the overall conclusion. There's a great game of cat and mouse within this book that kept me on edge. A very enjoyable read.

This was an odd one for me. Thrillers are my go-to genre and this one started out really strong. Leah accidentally hits a deer with her car and seeks help at the closest home where Martin opens the door and appears to help her call the police and deal with her wrecked car. They share a kiss. But unbeknownst to Leah, Martin is not who he appears to be and she is sucked into a cat-and-mouse game that will involve her cheating husband and her aging father. Too many times I had to go back and re-read as the details didn't fall into place easily and even though she appeared to be a smart woman, she withheld everything from the police (...it was just a kiss) which put those she cared about in danger. So her choices were just weird and although it was fast-paced, it just wasn't what I expected it to be.

Firstly I’m not sure why this book is called the good neighbour and secondly to say it is far fetched would be putting it mildly. It started well and certainly piqued my interest but after that I am afraid it was all downhill. Around a third into the book Leah is collected at her house by the detectives and is driven around, then deposited back at home. Weren’t they supposedly going somewhere when they collected her, I re read this section to see if it made more sense a second time. Why Leah didn’t tell the police that she had received texts from Martin or that he had kidnapped and tortured Elliott, her husband, is another mystery. So by the time Leah discovers Katyas dead body and again doesn’t tell the police, despite having a conversation with Katyas flat mate before going in and leaving her DNA all over a murder scene is a monumental mystery. I’m afraid I gave up at this point. Psychological thrillers do need to have a semblance of real life embedded in them which this did not.

The Good Neighbor started out strong, and when I got halfway through, I couldn’t finish it, I found myself staring to skim the pages and eventually gave up. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Leah has an accident by the road, her telephone is dead, so she just knocks on the door of a nearby house. Martin Tate opens the door, very charming, helpful and polite and little she knows that he is a coldhearted murderer and not a homeowner as she first thinks.

As it seems, he is a little obsessed with Leah and the game of life and death begins.

The story is a little too superficial for my taste, the characters are not credible, and I was quickly bored.

This book was just “eh” for me. I can’t for the life of me figure out what Leah was thinking when it came to the decisions she made. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Leah hits a deer on a dark street and her phone is dead, she approaches the closest house. The door is answered by Tate, an attractive man that is very helpful and helps her get her car towed. When she returns the next day, with a bottle of wine to say thanks, she finds a crime scene. Police info her the owner of the house has been murdered and it is a woman.

This was a short quick read. I really liked the premise and I got hooked quickly. My issues came around the middle to the end. Once we found out what was going on, there really weren't any more big surprises and it was just waiting for things to be resolved. I found that part to be less interesting than the earlier parts. But overall a decent quick read.

Just could not get into this book, more of a horror movie than a psychological thriller. Pass

The premise of the book piqued my interest. Imagine having an accident and your cell phone is dead. The only option you have is to go knock on the door of a house not far from where you live, but you never met the owner. Then you find out the next day the man who let you in and helped call roadside assistance had just murdered the real owner. It takes place over about 24 hours and has a fast pace.

I know many liberties far from reality are taken in fiction. You will need to suspend major time with this one. However, I think all this book needs to make it great is a additional editing and consultation in police procedure. The ending felt anticlimactic also. There is potential.

I finished this book in one day! It was such a fun book to read. The Neighbour has the perfect villain (Martin Tate), who is always at least one step ahead, and makes our lead character (Leah Talbot) frantic with terror. In turn, this makes the reader feel on the edge of their seat. What an interesting concept this was too. Leah stops at the nearest house for assistance when she strikes a deer on the road, and the man who answers the door has just recently murdered the actual owner of the home. Little does Leah know that right above her head is a badly mutilated woman, and the man she finds herself shockingly attracted to during their brief interaction is a murderer. I don't want to give much away, but I will say that this was an awesome read. Definitely add this to your "Must Read" list!

In this thriller, Leah has no idea what will follow after accidentally hitting a deer on the side of the road. Leah is so shaken from her wreck, she immediately walks to a nearby neighbor's house for help. Once she knocks on the door, the whole plot starts in a fast paced motion that will not allow the reader to put the book down.

Martin Tate sees a lady in distress and opens the door. Leah is allowed to clean up, rest, and calm down from her accident. Once help is called, Leah thanks Tate for his kindness. Once Leah arrives home, her husband Elliot, does not seem to be to concerned that his wife was just in a wreck.

The next day, Leah returns to the neighbor's house to thank him for his kindness from the previous night. As she arrives at the house, cops are outside. Leah quickly finds out that the neighbor is dead. She was the last person at the house, or was she?

Be ready for a gut-wrenching domestic thriller when you pick up this book. You may NEVER trust your neighbors again after reading THE GOOD NEIGHBOUR by RJ Parker.

Leah is driving home late and whilst thinking about her broken marriage she hits a deer and goes to the closest house for help. Grateful for his help she goes back the next day but it's the police who opens the door. The female owner has been murdered.

I enjoyed this fast paced gritty thriller. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! There are lots of twists and turns and the author had me hooked from the start. My first book by this author but it won't be my last.

Fast paced, easy to read thriller that had me totally hooked til the end.
Leah hits a deer on a lonely stretch of road, resulting in her crashing her car down a bank. She walks to the nearest lit house where a pleasant man named Martin allows her to use his phone. She suffers a short blackout whilst there and so sorts breakdown for her.
Feeling extremely grateful, Leah returns to his house the following morning to thank him. However, he is nowhere to be seen but there is a strong police presence as a woman has been murdered inside.

Leah suddenly finds herself receiving texts from Martin, threatening her not to go to the police. Her husband Elliot goes missing and Leah is led on a trail of discovering 2 further bodies.

A thrilling climax. Highly recommend this book.

The start of the book had me hooked! It’s a fast paced read, however, I did find myself getting quite annoyed with Leah! I kept thinking ‘just tell the police’ and felt the storyline went a bit OTT for a while.

I think if you enjoy fast paced easy to read thrillers then you will like this.

Thank you, One More Chapter, R.J. Parker and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of “The Good Neighbour” in exchange for an honest review.

It is always a good thing when the author makes you like the murderer more than you do the cop!

Martin Tate, our mysterious murderer and crime entrepreneur is enticing, likeable and makes you want to know what his motivations are. He has no moral and no remorse and yet, given the opportunity does not kill Leah, our protagonist who has an accident and ends up at the wrong place at the right time.

After her accident, Leah finds her way to the first house she sees, where Martin lets her in and helps her get AA and her way back home.

The next day, Leah goes back to thank him with a bottle of wine, only to find the cops investigating a murder. Who died? Was that even Martin’s house? Where is he and why didn’t he also kill Leah?

What happens next is a thrilling action-packed game of cat and mouse that got me, curiously enough, cheering for Martin and at the same time wanting to know what else he has done and could still do. What are his plans for Leah, and will he get away with anything?

I really enjoyed the two main characters, even though I felt the side characters felt short and were extremely unlikable.

Parker managed to build a suspenseful atmosphere, and even though I had the wrong expectation going into the book (I thought this was a dark psychological thriller), I was not mad at the fast-paced action driven story. I am thankful to Parker and this book, as this is a subgenre I had never tried and wasn’t sure I was going to like! I love when being proved wrong means that the world of books for me to read is expanded!

The plot was not very original, but I feel that the execution made up for it. In fact, I had The Dinner Party on my kindle shelf, and moved right up my reading list! Can’t wait to read more from this author!

The Good Neighbour release date is: March 18, 2021 - Mark your calendar! Besides, how gorgeous is that cover? That yellow will brighten up anyone’s shelf!

Wow!!! What a beginning!!! R.J. Parker reels you in very close in the first few chapters. The Good Neighbor had a good premise but for me started to go downhill. The description of the killings was a bit too much for me. R.J. Parker has you dive into the mind of a killer and also follows Leah Talbot who the killer is obsessed with.
Although the beginning pulled me in I was not impressed with the story I kept reading to try and make sense of why the filler was so fixated on Leah and why Leah made so many stupid decisions.

Thank you #Netgalley for allowing me to read #TheGoodNeighbour by #R.J.Parker

The Good Neighbour is a fast-paced thriller that starts as bizarrely as it ends. I loved that I couldn't put this book down. The plot is action packed which keeps the reader's attention but doesn't allow for great character development. You're introduced to a couple who is in the process of separating but we don't understand either of them any more at the end of the book than we do at the beginning. The motive behind the killer's actions is alluded to, but we never quite understand the full reasoning of his actions. I really wanted to be able to give a higher rating because of the fast pace and general intrigue throughout but in the end, I feel like it's disjointed and incomplete. Publication dates is March 18, 2021. Thank you to #netgalley and #onemorechapter for this advance reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.
