Mia and Alan are colleagues who accidentally get engaged. Why do they get engaged? Are they actually in love? Will Alan and Mia being boss and subordinate overcome this? These are some of the interesting questions that you will answer while reading this book. The first book of the series would want you to read more of the story. It is interesting and engaging.

This was just a preview. Just 4 chapters. And I really didn't like it. Nobody talks like that.
I just didn't love the characters, the plot of the story is ok... But the main characters, wow... They are so bad... Just no. Don't like them at all.
This is one star.

Great story! I didn’t even notice that it was over. I want the next books now. The characters were well built and the story made sense. It is a short novel and will make you wish for more. Otherwise, it is amazing!

Wow didn’t realise how short this novella was. It only took about 30 minutes to read. I was just getting into the story when bam it was over.. I can’t even really review properly as it was far too short. It did start well though and I would love to read more about Mia and Alan’s story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read the novella.

Thank you Netgalley for the free eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Married by December (Engagement) by Eva Lyon is the first of five parts of the story. It is actually a novella of 60-70 pages which can be read in one sitting. The story revolves around Mia who is constantly pressurized by her mom to get married. Mia works in a successful company where she is a hard worker and often stays in her own company. She is mildly attracted to company’s boss, Alan, who everyone thought is a gay because he is never seen with a woman. But the truth is he is a private person. Their story starts when a misogynist investor wants to invest in his company only on one condition that Alan must be a family man, and has a fiancé. This is when Alan and Mia start fake dating, though actually they both are attracted to each other.
The good news is it was a quick read. It felt like a few things were left unexplored. The main characters, though likeable, were underdeveloped. I would have liked to read more about Alan and his background. The book only contains 4 chapters, which explains a lot of skipped and unexplored information. I don’t understand why the author wrote a short story when this concept could easily be expanded in a 200-300 pages long book. The ending was extremely abrupt which annoyed me a bit. Though it ended with cliffhanger, I don’t think I’m gonna wait for the next book. On the whole, it was an okay read.

This is a romance between 'strong, career woman' Mia and 'I am not gay' Alan. I really disliked that the catalyst for the plot is a homophobic, misogynistic investor interested in investing in Alan's 'young, progressive and inclusive' company. Let's be honest if a 'progressive and inclusive' company gets investment from someone who seems to go against their ethos I wouldn't be to keen to support them. Also for someone who is confident Alan seems to constantly require us as readers to be reassured that he is not gay. It's 2020 and I am not here for that anymore. That being said Ava Lyon's writing is good the direction of the plot of this novel questionable.

I was given a copy by NetGalley in exchange for a review.

I liked the premise of married by december. The story is good, and the main characters Mia & alan are likeable. However, minor characters zoe and Leo just annoy me. I really can't stand the mom- but the way she acts has purpose to the story. I secretly hope Mia eventually tells her mom off for the way she treats her. Some reviews have said the story ends abruptly. In a way it does- part this is because it is just part 1 of 5 in the story. I'm really not sure why the book is being released as 5 short stories. I am glad to have kindle unlimited so I am able to finish the book that way. If I had to pay for each part, then I probably wouldn't continue the story.

This book was a very short and fast book. I blinked and it was over. The ending was so abrupt, I thought it was going to continue into another book. It was like bam.... done!!

I wished there was more. More plot, more story, more everything!

The title, cover and book description all are done well to draw the reader in. I liked Alan, and how his character came across. I also love when books come from multiple characters, so that was fun to see in the book.

While I found the premise interesting, the book was lacking a little. There was a lot of repetitiveness when it came to certain aspects of the story, and descriptions that didn't quite work. The sister is mentioned a lot, but never seen instead we have her friend Zoe that appears. The sister also has two different jobs without specifically saying she needed two, one being a director and another a film editor.

Scenes jumped around a lot, and Mia seemed to make a lot of presumptions about what others were thinking. Perhaps that is what the writer intended from the other character's perspective, but as the book is read in first person, it comes off a little pompous.

It was an in interesting and quick read though, even though it ended a little abruptly. I look forward to seeing more from the author and the series.

A short and quick read - the book is only a few chapters long and then there are four other short books which follow on from this.
A fake engagement for Mia and Alan, but will it stay fake?

This book was definitely a quick read. With only 4 chapters I flew through this book and finished in 1 hour. But I’m not sure if this is the completed book. I feel like the ending did not wrap things up. Also the writing felt very awkward to me. In the dialogue the characters didn’t use any contractions. I’m sure there are people who don’t use contractions when they speak but most people do. I appreciated the feminism in the book but I wished it was more nuanced instead so blatant. Additionally, I felt like there was some hate towards programmers. Mia refers to them as techies who don’t know how to have fun and understand programming languages more than English. As someone whose friends and family are most programmers I felt that this hate was unwarranted.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. I loved these characters and I want more! Mia's mom wants her married, even though Mia's dad was a serial cheater her mom is an expert on finding Mia a man. She fix's Mia up with a doctor who is gorgeous however a jerk. Funny that Dr. Ross looks exactly like Mia's boss Alan.....hmm where are we going with this? Once Alan and Mia connect the reader can't flip the pages fast enough....but then the book ends (only 4 chapters) continuing in another book. Quick read however makes the reader wonder why ending so abruptly and figuring out where can I get the next book?

Good premise that sounds like it would be filled with laughter and passion and shenanigans. But it was too short and fell just short of what I expected. Despite ending on a cliffhanger, I don't see myself waiting in anticipation for the next installment.
