I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
A Stitch in Time is different and interesting, and overall a very enjoyable read. It’s a combination of Victorian romance, time travel, ghost story, haunted house, murder mystery... it’s a lot. Given the multi-genre approach, it’s a pretty cohesive story - but it is LONG, and can drag at times, and could have done with maybe one or two storylines being edited out. I think this caters best to a young adult crowd - teenage me would have been swooning over the hunky love interest, the tangled drama, intrigue, etc. Not teenage me? Rolling my eyes a little at the hunky love interest, and would have much preferred more focus on the ghost/murder aspect of the story - this was the storyline that seemed to suffer the most, and the part that I was most interested in. Either way, it kept me reading, it was entertaining and worthwhile. 3.5/5 stars

Historical, gothic cover love at first sight!

As soon as I set my eyes upon the cover of this book I just knew I needed to read it, and I absolutely loved it.

This was the gothic ghost story that i’ve been searching for. It provided a very much needed escape. As soon as I delved into it, the world around me faded away and I was transported to a different time and place. I was in the story, amongst the characters, and it was whimsical and spooky and romantic and marvelous.

I was right there in Thorne Manor, and it was such a realistic experience. I roamed the halls of the house as if I were one of the characters in story. I stepped outside and explored the moors, and felt the breeze of the wind on my face.

This book was a mixture of several different things, and it was wonderful. It’s a haunted house story mixed with time travel and a steamy, swoon worthy romance.

This story was haunting, beautiful, and I was completely enchanted the entire time i was reading it.

I’ve read a few other books by Kelley Armstrong and this one is by far my favorite of hers!

Highly recommend!

A stitch in Time is different from the other book that Kelley Armstrong has written before, and she did an amazing job.. I absolutely loved it.. We get a haunted house mystery, time travel, and a swoonworthy romance.. Its everything I love in books all thrown together and it turned out perfectly..
The ghosts were spooky, and kept me on the edge of my seat. The mystery kept me guessing, the time traveling was awsome.. and the romance between Bronwyn and William was perfection. Also there is a kitten named Enigma who is the most adorable little trouble maker...
I want to list every little thing I loved, but that would spoil the whole book.. so Ill just leave it at I loved it, if you like time travel, haunted house mystery, and romance you should definitely check this book out...

I picked this book up because Aarya kept telling me she thought I would like it. I've never read from Kelley Armstrong before and I'm not really much for spooky vibes because I'm a scaredy cat. But I trust Aarya and I am always intrigued by time travel so when I was approved for an advanced copy on Netgalley, I was pretty excited. And then I read it and I was blown away. I loved this book so much.

Bronwyn is back in Thorne Manor after like twenty years away or something because she has inherited the house. When she was younger there was a time slip back to Victorian England but now that she's an adult, she's convinced herself that actually she had just hallucinated her first love, William. (Related, content warnings for mental health, including institutionalization) However, now that she's back in Thorne Manor, she's discovering that whoops, she can actually still see ghosts and also whoops, she can still time slip back to Victorian England. Essentially this is a gothic romance where rumors surrounding the house, specifically regarding mysterious disappearances of young women abound and Bronwyn has a mystery to solve and she's also, maybe falling in love again with her first love.

So, what did I fall in love with? The vibes of this book are top notch. They're spooky without being overwhelming and the angst is real. There's a cat who is beyond precious. There are fun side characters, though I do wish we'd gotten to spend more time with the villagers. And the way the book ends had me extremely content, but also I have millions of questions. If you're looking for something slightly spooky, but not overwhelming because it's Fall, I highly, highly recommend.

A sweeping, romantic story of love across time, time slips, ghosts, and hauntings! I loved this book, with its twisty mysteries and seductive romance. Great read!

Kelley Armstrong's new series is completely different from all of her others, yet it is written with her skillful blend of stretching the "normal" to include some very daring characters and their back stories. I've read her books, from the Otherworld to Cainsville to Nadia Stafford to Rockton, her series feature individuals who come together to build families and lives. A STITCH IN TIME shows the promise of joining the rest of her 5 star library.

When her aunt dies and leaves her a country home, 38 yr old Bronwyn returns to the scene of so many of her summer memories and dreams. Her life has suddenly taken many hits that leave her with time on her hands and no reason to leave Thorne Manor soon. But Thorne Manor sits on the edge of a time slip that Bronwyn has been able to pass through since she was very young. Tragedy and circumstances have kept her from the Manor for more than two decades.

The time slip connects the current Thorne Manor with manor during the time of the last Thorne resident. The time she spends in that era will cause her to question her commitment to a future lived elsewhere and lead her to solve a crime that spans both eras. An excellent start to an exciting new series. I cannot wait to see where Kelley takes Bronwyn next.

Oh my gosh I LOVED this! It had everything for a perfect spooky October read - ghosts, murder mystery, romance, time travel, Victorian era... perfection.

I loved that the main protagonist in this novel was a 38 year-old widow. Such a refreshing change. And not only that, but it was really steamy/sexy at points too (without it going over the top!). 30-something year-olds can be sexy? Whaaaaaat who would have thought?! Both William and Bronwyn were extremely likable characters and I rooted for them throughout the entire book. I just loved them.

Ok I feel like I'm just gushing and not even writing a good review. Let me try again...

The premise of this book centers around two people who fall in love that live in different time periods. William is from the Victorian era and Bronwyn is from present day. There is a stitch in time (yes, the title of the book) that allows Bronwyn to travel back in time through her shared bedroom with William, but he cannot move forward to her time. They started out as friends when they were around 4 years-old and it grew to something more. Due to events that happened when they were teens (which I will omit for spoilers sake), they were separated for 23 years and met back up again when they were grown adults.

During her travels back and forth from William's time to her time, Bronwyn is faced with a murder mystery. She sees ghosts who are trying to tell her something about the darkness surrounding the Thorne estate and it's up to her to find out what happened to them so she can set their souls at rest. You may think you know who the killer is, but the facts keep changing as Bronwyn finds out more so I promise you that you'll keep changing your mind too.

I loved loved loved this! Such a compelling story that I tore through and was so completely satisfied with at the end.

What genre is this book? Is it a mystery? A romance? A time travel? A ghost story? In truth, it’s all these things delightfully woven together into a story that transcends genres, as well as time. There’s the action that takes place in the modern era, when protagonist Bronwyn Dale inherits Thorne Manor, an estate she used to visit when she was a child. Her visits ended in tragedy when she saw her uncle fall from the second floor; or was he pushed by a ghost?
To complicate things, every time she had visited Bronwyn had been able to pass into the same manor house, only about 200 years before, where she met William. Over the years, she was always able to sit in that room and, by thinking of William, travel to his time period and spend time with him. They grew up together, just about 200 years apart.
With her uncle’s death, she tried to tell her mother about the ghosts and was quickly hospitalized for almost 6 months. She didn’t return to the house for 20 years. Since Wiliam didn’t have the ability to travel forward in time he was left wondering why Bronwyn abandoned him. Over those 20 years he suffered a major tragedy and events that left rumors flying about the “dark lord of Thorne Manor”.
It takes them some work to figure out both what happened to separate them and how to communicate now. Meanwhile, Bronwyn is seeing ghosts in both time periods and trying to make sense of it all. She enlists the help of a woman who has known her since childhood and who studies folklore and supernatural /ghostly occurrences. As Bronwyn’s experiences increase, she realizes these ghosts were murdered and in order to give them rest she will have to solve their murders. Indeed, her own existence may depend upon her successful unmasking of the murderer.
Meanwhile, Bronwyn and William’s relationship is deepening in much the way a reader might expect of a romance novel, with the exception there is no second suitor. This relationship comes complete with the anticipated physical interest and action, with a few descriptive passages. While they acknowledge they are in love, neither expects the other to abandon their own time period and move into the other. So, they are left with how to resolve that problem, assuming the solution to the murders doesn’t bring their relationship crashing down.
It was refreshing to read this book as it was so different from other novels. It is also well written with a fairly well crafted mystery. There was a rush to conclusion of the mystery toward the end, but since the book was a compilation of all these genres it didn’t feel necessarily rushed. There are secondary characters who are interesting, and more time spent with them could benefit the novel and improve the development of both Bronwyn’s and William’s worlds. My thanks to Subterranean Press and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced digital copy of this novel for review. The opinions expressed her are entirely my own.

A historical fiction, a gothic ghost story, time travel, a haunted house mystery, a paranormal romance all in one novel A Stitch in Time created for us by the New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong is a real gift just in time for the Halloween season.
It is #1 installment in Thorne Manor series.
Bronwyn Dale inherited an old house she visited as a young girl. As a child she had the ability to slip through time and interact with William in Victorian England reality. They are the same age now and resume their friendship which turns into more.
Old ghosts and secret scandal of the past should be confronted in order to build the future.
Captivating from the start and satisfactory to the end storyline, brilliant plot and strong characters make this sweet and spooky novel a great read for all gothic romance fans.

Series Info/Source: I got an eGalley of this book to review through NetGalley.com. This is the first book in A Stitch in Time series by Armstrong. The book stands alone well. I have been a huge fan of all of Armstrong’s books except her Women of the Otherworld series. This is Armstrong’s first foray into gothic romance.

Story (4/5): Bronwyn used to spend time with a boy named William at Thorne Manor, but after a tragic incident, she was convinced that he wasn’t real. Now Bronwyn has inherited Thorne Manor many years later and is trying to recover from the death of her husband. When she gets to Thorne Manor she thinks maybe it is haunted but then she starts to slip back in time again to William’s time. William is still there, a grown man, and upset that Bronwyn broke her promise to return. Aside from trying to sort out her issues with William, Bronwyn is being haunted by increasingly violent ghosts who seem determined to have Brownyn figure out the mystery behind their grisly deaths.

I enjoyed this a lot. I am normally not a huge fan of “time travel” stories. However, this is more of a time slip in a certain area that the characters can go in and out of. I liked the super spooky mystery of the ghosts that haunt Bronwyn in her time. I also enjoyed how this mystery was entwined with William’s past. There is some pretty steamy romance in here too, and it is nicely blended in with the rest of the story.

Characters (4/5): I enjoyed both Bronwyn and William. Bronwyn comes across as an interesting character and I liked reading a book with an older (upper 30’s) main protagonist. I did feel like she could have used a bit more personality, she just seemed a little washed-out at points. William is also an interesting character but I felt like he was just too defined by his time with Bronwyn, aside from his interest in horses there wasn’t a lot to make him interesting to me. Still, the two have good chemistry and were fine to read about. Some of the side characters were even more interesting.

Setting (4/5): I liked the sleepy small town setting of Thorne Manor and the creepy bog that surrounds it. It was well done. Jumping between current time and past time was also fun. In general it was a good setting and I enjoyed it. I am eager to see how the time slips are expanded upon in future books in this series.

Writing Style (5/5): I always love Armstrong’s writing style. It’s effortless to read and she does an excellent job blending story elements together. This story had a wonderful blend of mystery, thriller, fantasy/sci-fi, and romance. It was an intriguing premise that was well done and I am curious to see where the story goes. This story is, at heart, a romance but also has an excellent and super creepy mystery as well as some interesting time travel elements.

My Summary (4/5): Overall I enjoyed this. It wasn’t my favorite book by Armstrong but it is intriguing and shows a lot of promise. I felt like the characters were a bit lacking but really enjoyed how the mysteries of Thorne House were blended in with these time slips and Bronwyn’s romance with William. I feel like this series has a lot of potential and is unique. I plan on reading future books in this series. I would recommend to those who think a blend of creepy ghost story, time travel, and romance sound fun.

I belong to.a Facebook group for Time-slip and Historical novels. This book was posted on our group and I was intrigued, though I had never read anything by this author before. Imagine my delight when this became available on Netgalley and I was chosen to read and review.

The book is all the things I love, a mysterious English manor, a plucky heroine, a mystery, ghosts, quirky secondary characters and an even more mysterious hero or is he? The book starts with Bronwyn Dale (great name) returning to her aunt’s house after many years away. She is a widow who has kind of lost her way and is looking to find herself again. She visited the house several times as a child and teenager and while there she met and fell in love with William. The only issue, William lived in the house 200 years ago. Convinced that he was part of her childhood imagination. Imagine her surprise when she meets up with him again. Is Bronwyn losing her mind? Is she being haunted by a malevolent spirit? Can she find love with a man from 200 years in the past? Is he a hero or a cold blooded murderer? Well I have to say I really enjoyed reading and finding the answers to my questions, If you are intererested in a good scary(ish), romantic time-slip, this novel is for you. This is my 1st novel from Kelley Armstrong, but will not be my last.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher Subterranean Press, and the author for the chance to review this book,.

A little different, this beautiful tale was one I couldn't put down. Full of tension, my stomach kept clenching and I found myself holding my breath. I fell in love with the characters and the mystery. The romance is sweet. The crime intense. I read in one sitting. The ending was perfect.

This book has so many elements in it that the author seamlessly blends into one addictive read. A gothic Victorian house with ghosts roaming it's halls, haunted moors, time travel, romance, and a murder mystery for the heroine to solve. I enjoyed every part of the story and will definitely be rereading it.

Thank you NetGalley and Subterranean Press for access to this arc!

Good time travel/ghost/murder mystery story. Heavy on the romance, but overall I did enjoy this story. Started off a tad slow, but it did pick up.

A Stitch in Time is the latest (stand alone) story by Kelley Armstrong. This story was delightful! Time travel between worlds, a mystery to solve, some edge of your seat moments, with a heartwarming romance thrown into the mix. I want to thank Netgalley and Subterranean Press for a copy to review.

I'll start off by saying, this isn't my normal kind of read per-se. I tend to read more fantasy heavy books and I don't know if I'd classify this as such. As such, I was having a hard time trying to come up with a star rating because like I said, its not my norm. However, once I mentally separated it and looked at it independently, I decided it was a 4 star read.

So this is my first ever murder/mystery book and I'm not gonna lie, I was completely drawn into that aspect once it got to the "who done it". I did feel the beginning was a little slow to start, but once the book picked up, I found myself completely enthralled. The twists at this part kept me on the edge of my seat to figure out who the true culprit or culprits were.

Although, this aspect of the book sort of takes the back burner until closer to the end. The romance was good, but it didn't have me swooning. I liked the characters, but I'm not sure if they are necessarily memorable.

Even still, I'd say overall it was a good book. I might even look into some more murder mystery type books now.

I was provided with an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A Stitch in Time is a cleverly conceived novel which is a combination of time-travel, haunted house, ghost story, murder mystery, and romance. With all sorts of red herrings throughout the narrative, it kept me guessing the killer’s/killers’ identity until the very end. The description of the novel provides a good synopsis that is intriguing without saying too much. I don’t want to give away any spoilers so all I'll say is that if you’re a fan of Kelley Armstrong’s paranormal novels, this is one to read.

Parenthetically, there’s a short story, “Ballgowns and Butterflies,” that continues Bronwyn’s adventures. It’s part of a holiday anthology coming out in November 2020, Under a Winter Sky.

Written by Kelley Armstrong, this novel follows Bronwyn, a historian from Canada who inherited a house, and property, from her aunt. This house is particularly special as, through her childhood, when she would visit she was able to go back in time and develope a friendship that turned into first love with a Victorian man William. But, after a devastating incident when she was 15, it has been 23 years since she was back.

*WARNING, THIS IS FOR ADULTS*

To start with, I really enjoyed this novel. It had some of my favorite things in romance. Ghosts, time travel, murder, mystery. Such wonderful things. And the writing was classic Armstrong in that it was easy to read and swept me into the story.

The characters, the main characters, were wonderful. I just couldn’t wait for Bronwyn and William to have another interaction. I enjoyed them soo much! The secondary characters, other than August, did feel a bit more flat, but they weren’t always present in the story.

I will admit, I wanted one more chapter set a few more months/years after the current ending. I want to know how things work out in the long run.

If you enjoy historical romance, ghosts, mystery, and time travel, I’d give this a shot. If you love a lot of action and adventure, you might not enjoy this novel very much.

I did receive a copy in exchange for an honest review.
