David Thomson's latest book is a history of movie directors (as the cover says). For the most part, these are American male directors. Women get a collective chapter, which is more a commentary on the fact that Hollywood is a boys' club than an intentional exclusion on Thomson's part. This is not a comprehensive reference guide, but a look at a number of interesting and influential directors over the history of film. Will appeal to readers who love movies, United States history, and biography.
