It's a very cute story, and a really fun little read. Perfect for any young Minecraft lovers who just can't get enough of the game

“The Minecraft-Inspired Misadventures of Frigiel and Fluffy, Vol. 1” by Jean Christophe Derrion with art by Studio Minte is a graphic novel set in the Minecraft universe.

This book has two stories. In the first our heroes investigate the mystery of the lost watermelons. Rygel and his friends try to track down why a shipment of watermelons heading to town have gone missing. In the second story, Rygel and his friends travel to a town that seems a lot like a famous town in Nevada and Frigiel finds himself in a strange, popularity contest. Does he have the skills to win it?

These are good stories for middle grade readers. The art is fun and the characters are pretty great. This would be especially fun for anybody who plays Minecraft or is familiar with the game.

About what I expected from this book, cute. I downloaded it to read with my kid because she loves Minecraft.

A decent, fun narrative that sadly lack mainstream appeal. Fans of the video games may find these vignettes to be entertaining, but anyone else may not grasp the significance of these stories finally being told.

When a shipment of watermelons goes missing a novice thief, magician, and merchant set out to solve the mystery with their trusted pooch fluffy.

This is a perfect story for children who find it hard to get into reading. The story revolving around something that they already know and it being very visually stimulating makes reading this graphic novel fun and less of a task.

The art is very nice and resembles the game of Minecraft nicely with its own additions that give it just a little bit more. I also really like the idea that someone can become a magician which is not a Minecraft game skill. (As far as I know)

I read most of this with my daughter but she lost interest halfway through. It is well written eye catching and a great for anyone who loves Minecraft.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley in return for my honest opinion.

I'm not a Minecraft fan but my son is and he loved this book, wouldn't let me take a break or anything while reading it to him.

Well... this looked and sounded better than it actually was. 100 pages and I struggled hard to get through it. It was just so boring and bland and it felt like it was put in Minecraft to get people to read it, while I found it very un-Minecraft like in comparison to other books I read about this world. In the first story, watermelons are stolen.. yes, really, and our motley crew goes to find out what is going on. Our MC is pretty hopeless, he cannot do anything without the help of one of his friends, a kick-ass girl named Alice. Though he, sorry for the pun, magically knows how to magic at one point but never throughout the rest of the story. :P
And the second story? I am still not sure what I read? :P It just never held my attention too long so I kept being distracted. But some kind of tourney? Golden boxes? Statues? In the meantime we also get people back from the first story who aren't amused with Alice...
So yeah, it took me quite some time to get through this.. the art was OK, but the story MEH. There are parts that gave me the feeling of Minecraft (zombies and adventure), but the rest... no thank you.

ARC COPy...I don't know...the minecraft fans might be more open to/like this more but for me it feels like any other minecraft inspired media-comic on the market.

Great book for children into Minecraft!
I'm not really aware of the source material, but I have no doubt that the target audience for this comic will love it.
Personally, I found it a bit too easy, and not enough relating to the game, so I don't really think it is for everyone.
But I would definitely recommend this book to any middle grader into Minecraft.

Thank you to NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors for my copy of The Minecraft-inspired Misadventures of Frigiel and Fluffy Vol 1
by Jean-Christophe Derrien, Frigiel, Minte in exchange for an honest review. It publishes October 20, 2020.
I had the help of an 8 year-old Minecraft fan in the reading and reviewing this book. She really loved the storyline of this book and didn’t want to put it down. The illustrations are great, and there was lots of laughing out loud! She gives it five stars and wants to reread already.
This would make a great gift for any Minecraft fan in your world!
