It's Thanksgiving time and our favorite turkey named Tom is enjoying his farm life. He wakes up on Thanksgiving day and the farmer tells him that today is his special day. So he struts around enjoying his day. The other animals were trying to ignore him so they would not spoil the surprise, so he begins to get upset because no one is celebrating his day. Then a little rat tells him it is Thanksgiving and reminds him that he might be the main course. The farmer tries to get him to come back to the farm. He has to chase him high and low through the area. Turns out his special day is really his birthday and they have a surprise birthday party for him. The illustrations are beautiful and really add to the story. Little children will really enjoy this tale.

Very cute and fun story. Made kids a bit nervous at first but were very happy that Tom jumped to conclusions. The illustrations are wonderful!

Tom’s Special Thanksgiving Day is an exceptionally cute holiday tale of farm animals, a farmer, and the farm’s only turkey. When Tom woke Thanksgiving morning, he learned that it was his special day, but he couldn’t remember why. The other animals ignored his happy mood and went about their day. At this point in the story, I was thinking, “No, Matkovic wouldn’t do that, would they? They wouldn’t write a story that led to poor, happy Tom sitting on the farmer’s table, would they?” As the story progressed through wonderfully illustrated pages, the story of Tom’s special day unfolded and what happens when a forgetful turkey jumps to the wrong conclusion. While I am not a fan of humans being able to speak to and understand animals, the story and illustrations brought a smile to my face. I know young children will love to add this to their collection alongside Pumpkin Soup and A Pipkin of Pepper for their holiday reads.

Thank you NetGalley and Alan Matkovic for the opportunity to read this fantastic holiday picture book.

This book is great for all young children and the thing I love the most is that though the story takes place on Thanksgiving Day it’s a good book to read any time of the year.

This cute little story follows a turkey named Tom on his very special day. He is all excited about how today is his special day, he flaunts around the farm telling all the animals. Shortly he is stopped by the barn mouse who informs him that it’s Thanksgiving Day, causing Tom to get scared and attempt to run away. But the farmer eventually gets him to join them on this special day.

I absolutely loved reading this book with my little girl. We loved the bright and beautiful illustrations that were able to keep her attention (which for a 1-year old is hard to do). I loved how fun it was reading the story to her and how the story played out. And of course, with most children’s books, there is always a good message and this one teaches you friendship and trusting those who care for you.

I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Tom, the farm's only turkey, wakes up on Thanksgiving to the farmer telling him it is his special day. He feels special until he discovers that turkeys get eaten on Thanksgiving. He makes a run for it while the entire farm tries to catch him. This is a fun and unique story that will have kids laughing at story time. It will definitely be a classic.

Tom's Special Thanksgiving Day is a funny children's book about a turkey called Tom. Tom gets told its his special day but no-one is wishing him a happy special day. Then one of the animals tells Tom its Thanksgiving and turkeys get eaten on Thanksgiving. Tom gets scared and tries to run away but doesn't get far.

This is a brilliant book for children for Thanksgiving time and autumn!

I found this book cute, funny, and overall fun for Fall and especially Thanksgiving time.
In this book we meet Tom, the only turkey who lives on a large farm full of animals who are his friends and the Farmer who cares for them. We find out that it’s Tom’s special day, according to the Farmer, who tells him so, but the Farmer also tells the rest of the farm animals to not say anything to Tom about his “special surprise.” At this point I should note this is Thanksgiving Day.
As Tom is happily going about his day walking around the farm saying hi to his farm animals’ friends, he notices they are not responding to him. After some time, Tom talks to the rat of the farm, the clear antagonist who tells Tom that it is Thanksgiving Day, where Tom finally realizes what the main course of Thanksgiving is!
Upon this revelation Tom decides to run all around the farm being chased by the other animals and Farmer. He eventually hides and they all catch up to him for his “special surprise” which I will leave for you to find out. Let us just say, it is a happy ending.
Extremely cute and appropriate book for Thanksgiving and Fall time.

The illustrations are very colourful and cute. I’m not sold on the story. There wasn’t really a lesson other than maybe to not jump to conclusions, but it seemed to be more about running away and didn’t have a Thanksgiving message that I was expecting. I was disappointed.

A cute seasonal story with a fun twist. The illustrations are colorful and fun to flip through- the bright colors catch your eye and enhance the story written on the page. Your kids will love seeing what shenanigans the farm animals are up to.

A cute story about Tom the Turkey having a special Thanksgiving day. A goofy story that will delight children and maybe scare them out of eating turkey on that Thursday in November.

I had the help of a 6 year old to review this one! He is a man of few words, but he said that his book was really fun! He said it got him excited for Thanksgiving, and that’s a win in my world!
This would make a great gift!

The cover of"Tom's Special Thanksgiving Day" by Alan Matkovic immediately grabbed my attention. The illustrations throughout the whole book were bright, vivid, engaging, and ones I know young kids would enjoy! The story centers on a Turkey named Tom, a farmer, and a variety of other animals on a farm. The farmer lets the other animals know it is Tom's special day and not to ruin the surprise for him. As readers, you know the day is Thanksgiving, so you are feeling sorry for Tom. However, the ending turns out to be quite sweet- the farmer and animals were not planning on eating Tom for Thanksgiving, but rather throwing him a surprise party. You see it is not only Thanksgiving, but also Tom's birthday.
