This book was okay. I wasn't shocked or surprised by the plot at all. It's a rather predictable fiction read. I liked the journey into spirtualism and mediums. 3/5 stars.

I love reading anthologies, short story, and poem collections. I believe they all bring something to the table, but at usually hard to rate as a whole. Overall I enjoyed everything I read in this one.

I couldn't get through this title. It ended up not being for me, but I hope it finds a hope with other readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I was never able to access my review copy of this. Even after publication I've tried to find a copy to purchase for review and was still unable to find one. I'm wondering if something went wrong and the book was never published. Either way, as this isn't something I am able to read I am submitting my review with a middle of the road star rating.

I felt absolutely so confused at parts of this short book like there were missing parts to the story. I love Githic stories and spiritualists usually but this was disappointing.

Thanks to the publisher for the e-arc I received via NetGalley.

My gosh, this book is fantastic! It gave me everything I wanted and more! The author trio crafted an original spooky tale that has the spirit of a Jayne Ann Krentz vibe (high praise indeed). As of 1/13/24, the audio is available as a podcast at no cost through Amazon ( I’m a Prime member, this may be a factor). I highly recommend this book that was published as simply, ‘Beatrix Greene.’

I really enjoyed this!! Each "episode" was written by a different author, but I felt as if the whole story was cohesive and flowed really nice. The story was just the right amount of creepy and the ending was not disappointing. Horror, romance, friendship, darkness, love, and hope were all themes throughout. I felt like the length was perfect, not too long but also not short and the pacing was great as well. I will definitely be looking for more by these authors, and would love to find another story like this one; told in segments as a collaboration. I'm only sorry I waited so long to read it.

Beatrix is a medium, at least, that’s what her clients think she is. So when she’s sought by James to work with others to confirm if Ashbury Manor is haunted, she readily agrees. The pay will open doors for her that weren’t previously possible. But it might all be more than any of them can handle.

The gothic setting is perfect for holding a seance. The characters were wonderful, and I loved that even in this Victorian age women were willing to stick together. We’re given mystery and horror in a fast-paced read. Hawkins did a superb job of leaving the readers wanting more. A fun and quick read from start to finish.

The pacing was different because of multiple authors but it worked. I loved the paranormal gothic noir vibes. Overall, I enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed that it wasn’t just one author.

What a great book to read around Halloween! It contains all that is necessary for a very spooky read, a haunted house, a medium, a very frightening basement, and of course a macabre monster that has inhabited the home for eons.

It's a quick read and one that keeps the tension going until the end. A very short book and one that is sure to thrill those who seek some fun on a spooky night.

Thank you netgalley for the arc in exchange for a review.

The Haunting of Beatrix Greene is a novel divided into several seasons and episodes. However, this review deals with the entire novel.
Beatrix Greene is a young orphan trying to survive in Victorian London as a medium, and up until the beginning of this story she has done so with moderate success. However, Beatrix is, in her own words, a fraud who does not possess paranormal powers of any kind and who uses her empathy to help relatives of the deceased find comfort and peace, in exchange for a certain sum of money, of course.
All this changes when a mysterious Dr. James Walker hires her to spend a night at Ashbury Manor, a desolate mansion where she believes she keeps terrible secrets.
Accompanied by her friend Harry, Amanda Reynold a paranormal photographer, Dr. Walker and a brief appearance by the famous Arthur Conan Doyle, our heroine will face the forces that have made Ashbury Manor her home.
An excellent paranormal gothic horror novel that will draw the reader into Ashbury Manor and not let them out until the last page. I highly recommend it!

It honestly got boring to me really fast and I didn't even finish it. The only thing I enjoyed about it was the cover

I forgot how much I love a good period horror piece. Really interesting whenever multiple authors are involved - it either works or simply doesn't. I think they managed to pull it off well enough here.

I absolutely did not like anything about this. Not scary, incredibly predictable. Some parts are vague like one of the authors assumed someone else was going to fill in the missing parts of the story.

Reading The Haunting of Beatrix Greene was a thrilling and engaging experience, but it wasn't without its flaws. The alternating sections from the three authors kept the pacing tight and the tension high, and I found myself rooting for Beatrix as she navigated the dangers of the haunted mansion and discovered her true gift for communicating with ghosts. However, the romance element wasn't my favorite part of the story and I felt it was a bit forced and not fully developed. Despite this criticism, the main plot was well-done and kept me hooked from start to finish. Overall, I would still recommend this book to fans of historical fiction, horror, and romance, but with the caveat that the romance subplot may not be for everyone.

I absolutely loved this unusual twist of the normal haunted house/paranormal activity trope. With alternating sections from all three authors, Rachel Hawkins, Ash Parsons, Vicky Alvear Shecter, the pacing and tension is perfect to build that eerie creeping fear that you want from a book like this. The only thing I wasn't a fan was the little bit of romance thrown in, but that's just me, I like my horror to be untainted by things like happiness and love 🤣.

Full review to come.

(this review goes live on my website 10/19/2022)

I don’t remember how I came to have this e-ARC (whether I requested it, if it was a Read Now title, or if I was invited to review it). To be honest, I read it quite a while ago. I’m just really REALLY far behind on writing reviews – there’s not enough time in a day! But, I do remember that I enjoyed The Haunting of Beatrix Greene quite a bit. More than I expected to, frankly. See, the 3 credited authors on the cover kind of concerned me. Would three people be able to seamlessly weave a narrative? Or would it just feel disjointed and weird? In this case, it was the former. I almost immediately forgot that there were multiple authors to the story. It felt cohesive, and not at all like there were too many cooks in the kitchen.

Beatrix Greene is a fun character. I mean, she’s a fraud, right? Who doesn’t like to see a plucky young Victorian woman trying to keep herself in a home without no man? I know I do. I don’t care if she has to defraud a few people to do it, either.

But even better than being *just* a fraud, Beatrix Greene is a fraud with a heart of gold (well, sort of). She doesn’t feel super great about defrauding sometimes vulnerable people, but she’s still willing to do it because she does feel super great about having a place to sleep and food to eat. And James Walker is a fun foil/potential love interest.

Basically, if you like the feel of gothic horror, but you (for some reason I can’t imagine) don’t like the pacing, Beatrix Greene might be your Goldilocks book. It has all the trappings of a gothic horror story, but the pacing of a serial. Because I think that is actually what it is, technically. So it’s gothic in atmosphere, but with a faster pace.

Like I said, this was pretty good. Although admittedly, I didn’t 100% love the pacing. I wish it had been just a touch longer to better develop the characters. They were pretty good, but I just wasn’t super invested in them, you know? I think that could have been fixed by slowing it down and lengthening the story just a touch.
