**I received episode 1 from netgalley in exchange for a review**

I am new to serialbox but WOW I love it already. As the name suggests, it releases serial fiction (so you get a new "episode" each week). I am not sure if every series is done the same, but this one can be consumed as an ebook or audiobook. I chose to try this out with audio and I'm super glad I did. There were multiple talented narrators, as well as sound effects and music. The writing and audio-production have really captured that atmospheric gothic-romance feel. I love where this is going so far... I already went ahead and subscribed to the rest of the series.

This book absolutely needs to be a Netflix special. Someone please pick this up!!! It starts super super strong and then goes down a little but it is a little scary for sure. Basically a lady pretends to be a medium to spend a night in a haunted house and do a Seance. Turns out she channels some mad mad ghosts. Who end up locking them in the house until they get what they want. And they’re just getting started. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a shorter book than I'm used to reading but I really liked it. It follows the story of Beatrix Greene who makes her living working as a spirit medium, although she's not at all psychic. She meets a renowned skeptic who asks her to accompany him to a manor house where a grisly murder took place in order to determine whether the place really is haunted.

It features a very short cameo by Harry Houdini, then going by the name Erik (his birth name) and another cameo by Arthur Conan Doyle who is also invited to the manor to determine whether it is haunted. It's written by 3 authors but is very cohesively written and doesn't suffer some of the possible downfalls of multiple authors exhibited by other books. I would love to read more from the perspective of Beatrix in the future.

a review will be forthcoming on my blog.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC for review purposes. The premise sounded interesting and the beginning was promising. A young woman in alone in the world makes her living by being a medium; a man with a tragic past hires her to prove or disprove that his house is haunted. It's a fast read and quite atmospheric, though I would have enjoyed a slower pace. It also got pretty gruesome in the second half of the book and that's just not my thing. Some things that happened were not explained very well - like why did Lord Stanhope turn up and how did he know the house so well? The main characters also behaved in ways that really more modern than Victorian culture would allow, and the romance seemed a bit forced.

Still, it was a light, quick read for the most part, and if you like horror/ghost stories, this might be appealing.

THE HAUNTING OF BEATRIX GREENE by Rachel Hawkins, Ash Parsons, and Vicky Alvear Shecter

Beatrix Green is a well respected spiritual medium and is noted for her seances that help so many people come to terms with the fact their loved one has died. She helps her grieving customers contact their loved ones and everyone seems to feel much better for her gift.
James Walker is a man in pain who discredits sham mediums and charlatans who fool honest people in pain. It is low to prey on the ones who hurt so much from the death of their loved ones. He goes to a spiritual meeting with Beatrix and offers her a chance of a lifetime to help him with the haunting of his family home. He is the owner and Lord of Ashbury Manor. His younger brother was killed there by his mother and James is desperate to find out the reason why.
Beatrix deals with ghosts in her seances and really doesn’t believe they are real. She knows she is a fraud but the monetary deal is much too good for her to turn down, so she agrees to go to Ashbury Manor with James. She feels she can convince him of her talent and she needs the money and fame she will get by his offer.
She goes to Ashley Manor with him and other investigators, including the great Arthur Conan Doyle. When they reach the manor the famous author of Sherlock Holmes refuses to enter the manor as it has too many very dangerous entities. James and Beatrix find out just how dangerous it is and about the chilling true story of his mother and brothers deaths.
I really loved this book and read it from cover to cover in one sitting because I just had to find out what happens. If you like ghostly tales this book is a great read. It’s scary folks, honest.

The Haunting of Beatrix Greene.
Well written with just the correct amount of suspense. It flows well and the story line is excellent. It’s effectively creepy and a quick read. It has a bit of a different format at the beginning of the chapters but it’s not big so it doesn’t hinder the book at any rate that I can see. Definitely recommend. Great book to cozy up next to a fire with.

Beatrix is a medium, or claims to be. She doesn’t really believe in any of that. She was called by skeptical named James, who outs mediums for their trickery, to Ashbury Manor to do a séance. As the night progresses she understands that there are mysterious happenings that can’t be explained. One guest in particular is especially fond of the Manor and will do everything he can to keep it’s power to himself, however Ashbury Manor has other plans.

The plot follows James Walker, Beatrix Green, and their companions as they set out to see if Ashbury Manor is truly haunted--what they find is much, much more than a haunting: a generations old curse with its eyes set on James. If you're looking for a quick, scary story then this books is for you! The cast of characters is lovely and I found them believable, if a little thin. The horror elements were good, although a little gruesome for my taste. The atmosphere was built well considering how few pages there were to accomplish world building. While I enjoyed the story, there did seem so be some inconsistencies in it (for example, if the house is locked, how did Harry leave?) Of course, it's possible that I just missed something, but I would like to see that resolved. I also thought the romance element felt a little forced--there was little build-up and it didn't quite feel believable. That said, I enjoyed this book, and I would really love to see a movie or TV adaption of it!

What a great book to read in time for Halloween! It contains all that is necessary for a very spooky read, a haunted house, a medium, a very frightening basement, and of course a macabre monster that has inhabited the home for eons.

It's a quick read and one that keeps the tension going until the end. A very short book and one that is sure to thrill those who seek some fun on a spooky night.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book due out October 28, 2020.

The haunting of Beatrix Greene: Episode 1 Is co written by three authors. Rachel Hawkins, Ashley Parsons and Vicky Alvear Schecter. Even though it is written by three people, you would never even know.

Beatrix Greene is a spiritual medium, who believes she is a fraud. Set in Victorian England she is approached by Dr James who wants to denounce frauds and invites her to Ashbury Manor to either confirm the ghosts or prove that there are not any.

This has a vibe that reminds me of the good horror movies, the conjuring, the haunting of hill house. The way the suspense was written was perfect, not to slow, revealing enough to make you wonder what could possibly come next.

I enjoyed all the characters, most likeable and some not so likeable. All relatable as there morals and the base of who they are shine through their interactions and relationships with each other. Not scary moments for me but more suspense. The suspense was such that this was okay.

If you like ghost stories and uncovering ghosts motives add this to your to be read list, asap!

I gave this 5 stars on Goodreads because I really, really enjoyed it.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher, serial box for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Beatrix Green (medium who doesn't believe in ghosts) meets James Walker (scientific debunker of all things paranormal), a clash is bound to happen. But no one expects Dr. Walker's ancestral home to be filled with malevolent energies/ghosts. When James's mother possesses Beatrix, she is more surprised than James. Then comes the darkness. Then come a few deaths. It's a scary ghostly thriller that will keep you awake at night with the lights on. The deadly dangers lurking in the house will crawl up your spine and leave you wishing they'd just get out of there. But, too late, the house has locked them in. A great read for Halloween or anytime you want a good scare. The creepiest love story ever.

A haunted gothic, frightening, ghostly Victorian mansion where a massacre of mother and son have taken place! I don’t know you my friends but I already started to hear Twilight Zone’s theme song in my head!
Let’s take a look of this fast pacing horror novella’s storyline!

James Walker challenges Beatrix Greene to become his guest for one night at Ashbury Manor, conducting a spiritual seance to talk with the haunted spirits of the place, releasing their souls by ending their suffer and despair.

James believes in science and he is suspicious about the gifts of Beatrice and Lady Greene needs her independence by being financially secured. The money James offered may help her for the brighter future plans even that means she has to outsmart him with her talent and make him believe she can really connect with dead souls. But can she be a talented actress to convince him he was wrong about her from the beginning?

What if she’s not a charlatan as like she thinks about herself. What if she can really connect with the souls and give the loved ones the closure they need by releasing them.

As soon as their carriage approaches to Ashbury Manor, deep in her soul she feels the deadly vibes coming from inside to warn her stay away from the place.

A talented photographer Mrs. Reynolds, her old actor friend Harry and Dr. Doyle- a talented mystery novels author who is interested in occult join with them. (Actually Dr. Doyle starts running away as soon as he takes a few steps to the entrance of manor because he feels something terribly wrong as like Beatrice did. )

Unfortunately Beatrice does not have a chance to escape or quit. She needs money and she needs to prove her talent to Mr. Walker by sharpening her acting skills.
But when they start their special seance, an uninvited visitor appears and so many eerie, unexpected, jaw dropping, horrific things start to happen!

No more talking about how the story goes on. Just grab the book and get lost in that gothic, blood freezing, well written story.

Three brilliant authors created this delicious horror show and give us a quality, entertaining time as if you’re binge watching addictive episodes of captivating series! I read it at one sit and I wish there was more!

Highly recommend it to genre lovers!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Serial Box for sharing this ARC with me in exchange my honest opinions.

'The Haunting of Beatrix Greene' is a very short and engaging story about a spiritual medium who must prove ghosts exist to a scientist. This scientist, James, has destroyed a few small businesses that claim to be the real deal, and has lured Beatrix out in hope that she is not a fake medium. He offers her money in exchange for spending a single night in a haunted house, so long as she can prove -or disprove- the existence of ghosts. Beatrix agrees for the money, but ends up getting much more than she bargained for.

Beatrix may be a spiritual medium who needs money, but she refuses to put on a lavish show full of tricks and distractions. She keeps her meetings simple and quiet, hoping only to bring her customers peace. This is what caught James' attention, and what makes him think she might be the real deal. I really liked that she cared for her customers. I also like that while she had a traumatic past, she doesn't let it turn her into a cold, unfeeling person. In fact, she seems to care a little too much.

James is much the same, though he can be much colder if he wishes to be. I admired his mission to seek out answers, and his strength to fight the darkness. However, keep in mind that James is not always as he appears to be.

Once they arrive at the house they are to spend the night in, things begin to get strange and creepy. An uninvited guest barges in, a possession leaves them all shaken, passion seeks for attention, and evil pours through the walls and the floors. The authors weave an atmospheric tale of an evil that has steadily grown over generations, and greedily wishes to take their next sacrifice, while also weaving a tale of blossoming romance and friendship.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this short story and I do intend to read more by them!:)

First , a thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. ITs a quick easy read - finished it in one day. The story is set in Victorian England where a spiritualist needs to outsmart the scientist who is determined to expose spiritual frauds. I always find it interesting when more than one author writes a book and marvel at how they can make the story flow so seamlessly. these three authors did well making the story flow. You could dissect this book to death...but i choose not to. It was an enjoyable read -- I like this type of story. It kept my interest and while some may say its a bit predictable, i still wanted to keep reading to find out what happens. I would read a second book in this series.

A spiritual medium, a photographer, a actor, a lord, and a haunted house with a bloody past, what could possibly go wrong? The story follows Beatrix Green, a pretend spiritual medium who is offered a large amount of money to stay in a haunted house for one night to prove or disprove whether or not it is actually haunted. Throw in a tragic family past for the residents of the house and a new romance between Beatrix and the guy who owns the house who hired here and this is what we have. The story starts of really interesting but as it continues I found myself asking why certain decisions were made. If you’ve ever seen any horror movie where characters continue to ignore all the warnings and do everything to get into the bad situation? This is what we have here. It wraps up fine and everything is done. I just found it to be as if I were watching a b-horror movie, I can definitely see this being like any other haunting story out there. It was fine and if you enjoy easy haunting stories then I think this would be great for you!
