Really didn’t enjoy this one. Had sounded good from the description but sadly none of the stories lived up to my expectations.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book. Overall I thought it was okay. The stories were short, hence the title. I felt a bit confused as to the point of some of them cause I felt that were unfinished and left much of the story to the imagination of the reader. It was an okay read for when you're looking for short snippets of stories.

I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
A nice collection of stories to act as distraction from the modern world. The writing is quite good and relatable.
A good read.

I enjoy reading short stories. However, this book does not contain any really good stories at all - they are all very, very short, and seem more like half-baked plots for stories the author thought he might like to write one day, but never got around to doing so. There are certainly a plethora of scenarios, some based on snippets of real facts, others just flights of fancy. The author clearly has great belief in his own skills as a storyteller, not particularly supported by the contents of this book. Many of the stories are pointless or dull, with pretentious sentences: 'a ghastly memory tumbled out of Jack's unconscious mind like the contents from a broken suitcase'. Really? There are a couple of gems that could have been worked up into good short stories, but there are so many to wade through, the reader loses the will to continue.

I think, from the author's remarks and 'clever' title pun, it was intended that the reader pick up and put down the book, reading one or two tales during leisure moments, but I'm afraid I don't read in that way. I want to read a story, be transported, be entertained. Once I start a book, I don't want to abandon it for a while (to get over the ennui) and then return for another dose.

Sorry, this one did not work at all for me. Too many tedious little tales and not enough meat to keep the reader enthralled.

Thank you to NetGalley, Troubador Publishing Ltd and Matador for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for a (very) honest review.

My thanks to Netgalley and Troubador Publishers for a copy of “Holiday Shorts” for an honest review.

I often find short stories a bit hit and miss, but I thought that this title might be just the thing to dip in and out of for my holiday reading.
Unfortunately , for me, this book was definitely more miss than hit.
The stories were very short and sadly instantly forgettable as reflected by my rating of the book.

Pleasant enough, but not particularly gripping. I’d be hard pressed to remember any of these stories in detail and they were often riddled with clunky dialogue.

I quite like short stories in general but I didn’t really enjoy this collection. It could be that I didn’t get on with the authors writing style as his plot points seemed good enough. For this reason, 3 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book.

A perfect Tom for dipping into when you don’t have a lot if time. Each story succinct and to the point.
