Thank you to Random House for this copy in exchange for a review! This book centers on a young attorney's obsession with a firm partner. Cassie is no longer employed as a staff attorney at a firm. In desperation, she obtains a temp job at a firm reviewing documents to assist in ongoing litigation for another firm. Somehow, a partner's emails ended up in the reviewed documents, which draws Cassie in. Cassie is trying to reinvent her life in every way. She makes a friend at work with a secret. She tries to put distance between her and her past, while obsessively escaping into her work. This book really took off in the second half. I was sneak-reading on all of my work breaks and staying up late to finish it. It was satisfying, cringy, and highly addicting.

Two important things about this book:

1) I thought it was well-written, with an intriguing plot and a satisfying ending, but...

2) I didn't really enjoy reading it.

This is a story about Cassie, a lawyer who becomes obsessed with a man after accidentally gaining access to his emails. And it gets bleak. The writing is skillfully done, but Cassie's actions become so uncomfortable to read that I found myself not wanting to return to the book, even though I very much wanted to know what was going to happen.

This book was only 3.5 stars for me, but that is ONLY because of personal preference, not any fault of the book. Cassie is a difficult narrator. If you enjoy that, then this is DEFINITELY the book for you and I would recommend it without hesitation. On the other hand, if you prefer a more relatable narrator that you can easily root for, I would try something else.

This book was good, but not outstanding. The author did a great job getting inside the main character’s head. It wasn’t as suspenseful as I was hoping for. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

After a workplace incident Cassie Woodson finds herself at the bottom of the corporate ladder. Once a lawyer at a prestigious firm she is now forced to take a job as an unappreciated temp reviewing correspondence for a large-scale fraud suit at another firm. One day while sorting emails she discovers a private email between a partner at the firm, Forest Watts, and his wife Annabelle. Cassie becomes obsessed with the Watt's, creating a fantasy world in which she is an integral part of their seemingly perfect life. When Cassie discovers that the Watt's marriage might not be as stable as she imagined her admiration for Annabelle turns into a desire to take her place.

Just One Look is a fantastic new suspense novel in which a mentally unstable woman discovers more than she bargained for when she becomes obsessed with a partner at the law firm where she temps. Although this novel may seem like your typical obsession gone wrong plot I have to say it took an interesting turn that I didn't see coming. Cassie is a young woman who can't seem to catch a break in life. Cassie becomes a bit unstable after a work incident destroys the life she worked so hard to create and takes on temping as a way to make ends meet. Forrest and Annabelle appear to be the perfect couple, something Cassie discovers after reading their personal email exchanges. She becomes obsessed with integrating into their lives but it doesn't go quite as she planned. Although Cassie is mentally unstable, her character is a bit charming and you kind of find yourself rooting for her to find happiness as the underdog of the story. This novel was definitely everything I was hoping for and more as it took an unexpected turn which completely caught me off guard. This is definitely a novel you should check out if you enjoy obsession and stalker novels.

JUST ONE LOOK COULDN’T HURT....right?

Cassie Woodson was on the top of her game in the Law World until SOMETHING happened.

Now, the only way she can pay her bills is to work a thankless job reviewing correspondence for a large scale Medicare fraud suit for Falcon Health....as Temp 021.

But, as she sorts through the deluge of emails, at her new law firm, some personal emails between one of the partner’s-Forrest Watts and his lovely wife, Annabelle, catch her attention.

She is already addicted to caffeine-Tylenol and alcohol.
And, now she is addicted to following this perfect couple’s life.

She learns all about them and when she thinks there is an opportunity to become a part of this life-LOOKING in from the outside is no longer enough.

Well, this was a FUN, fast paced book!

It unfolds through the eyes of our delusional protagonist Cassie along with emails and newspaper articles.
She definitely has a unique way of interpreting things-revealing HER truths to US, one tasty morsel at a time!

Yes, these emails hold more secrets than boring old fraud-and I was as OBSESSED at finding out what they were as Cassie Was!

Very entertaining!

Thank You to Yewon Son at Random House Publishing for inviting me to read an early copy!
It was my pleasure to provide a candid review!

This book was such a pleasant surprise! It was a bit predictable in places but still extremely entertaining and made me keep wanting to turn the pages.
We are following Cassie who is having to start over with a temp job at a law firm after she was fired from a much higher position (one of the book’s mysteries is what exactly happened to get her fired). Her new job involves sifting through emails related to a case, and for some reason one of the higher ups’ email inboxes (full of personal info) keep coming through for her to see and Cassie quickly develops an obsession. She conducts a devious plan to gather as much personal data as possible in order to stalk and gain this man’s affection.
This was such a fast paced, easy to read, “unlikable narrator” thriller and I highly recommend putting this one on your radar for the summer.

This was such an interesting and compulsively readable thriller. The beginning and initial premise immediately hooked me. I love books set in and around stalkers. As a lawyer, I hopeeee most lawyers know to not have such personal exchanges in their work emails LOL. This book was a super fun ride.

Cassie Woodson once was a promising employee at a corporate law office. Now she's struggling to keep her bills paid by taking a temp job in the lower levels of another office. Now, she spends her days clicking through emails, looking for anything the firm can use for an ongoing case. Her nights are spent blackout drunk inside her apartment, calling an ex who wants nothing to do with her and struggling to push down the memories of the actions that landed her in this spot.
One day, she sees an email shared between one of the partners, Forest, and his wife. She believes they are the epitome of what a perfect relationship should be. Instead of discarding the email, she falls down a rabbit hole of obsession over Forest Watts and his seemingly perfect marriage with wife, Annabelle. Eventually, Cassie's imaginings of their life are no longer enough her. She plans a not-so-chance encounter with Forest and starts forcing her way into his life. Cassie decides Annabelle isn't the right person for Forest. Cassie is.
Just One Look is thrilling and seductive. I absolutely devoured this book! Cassie felt like a combination of Joe from YOU and Cassie from The Flight Attendant. The mix of unreliable narrator and creepy, but lovable stalker was so entertaining. I thought I knew where the story was headed, but I was so very wrong.

I just loved this smart suspenseful thriller. I became obsessed with the main character and quickly wanted to read just one more chapter to see what would happen next. Not wanting to give away any of the plot, I will just say that the author’s writing style hooked me into becoming totally involved with the storyline. This is a quick satisfying read that will be very hot this summer. Highly recommend! #JustOneLook #LindsayCameron #NetGalley

This book was fantastic and I loved it! I knew from the very beginning that I had to read it and my instincts were on point. Just One Look by Lindsay Cameron was a fast-paced, paged turning story of a lonely woman named Cassie. She gets caught up in reading emails from people in her company, specifically one man. She is supposed to be scanning the emails for information regarding a case at the law office but most of Cassies time is spent searching for personal emails that give her a glimpse into one of the lawyers at the firm, Forest.

Check it out:

Cassie Woodson is adrift. After suffering an epic tumble down the corporate ladder, Cassie finds the only way she can pay her bills is to take a thankless temp job reviewing correspondence for a large-scale fraud suit. The daily drudgery amplifies all that her life is lacking—love, friends, stability—and leaves her with too much time on her hands, which she spends fixating on the mistakes that brought her to this point.

While sorting through a relentless deluge of emails, something catches her eye: the tender (and totally private) exchanges between a partner at the firm, Forest Watts, and his enchanting wife, Annabelle. Cassie knows she shouldn’t read them. But it’s just one look. And once that door opens, she finds she can’t look away.

Every day, twenty floors below Forest’s corner office, Cassie dissects their emails from her dingy workstation. A few clicks of her mouse and she can see every adoring word they write to each other. By peeking into their apparently perfect life, Cassie finds renewed purpose and happiness, reveling in their penchant for vintage wines, morning juice presses, and lavish dinner parties thrown in their stately Westchester home. There are no secrets from her. Or so she thinks.

Her admiration quickly escalates into all-out mimicry, because she wants this life more than anything. Maybe if she plays make-believe long enough, it will become real for her. But when Cassie orchestrates a “chance” meeting with Forest in the real world and sees something that throws the state of his marriage into question, the fantasy she’s been carefully cultivating shatters. Suddenly, she doesn’t simply admire Annabelle—she wants to take her place. And she’s armed with the tools to make that happen.

This comes out on July 27.

A wild ride from beginning to end! Just when I start to connect with the main character, she ends up doing something that leaves me shaking my head lol. That said I really enjoyed this book! It was so much fun! Twists & turns and a fantastic ending! Can't wait to recommend it!

Just one look, an innocent peek into someone’s private life! But who can stop at just a peek. You feel yourself wanting to know more and then you can’t stop.
Cassie is a down on her luck lawyer who was fired from her law firm. The circumstances of her exit have caused her many issues trying to find a new job. The only job her reputation will allow her is a temp job reviewing files for a case. When a keyword search, causing the contents of one of the higher ups email box to become part of the review, Cassie finds herself enthralled with this seemingly loving couple and records everything about them. Forest and Annabelle Watts seem to have everything going for them including a deep love for each other. In Cassie’s life, there is no love, and only a grandmother for family. She has lost everyone else. The Watts seem to be a breath of fresh air and Cassie get enough of their private emails. She finds herself buying the same beauty products to buying the same wine, courtesy of some amazon receipts found in email.
When a stage meeting occurs with Forest at the Juice Bar, Cassie notices an empty ring finger. This new revelation has her no longer idolizing the couple by wanting to take Annabelle’s place. She thinks that Forest is her future and a way to finally have someone special, but when the firm finds out that Forest’s email has been compromised, they shut it down and rerun the reports. Cassie has lost her tie to Forest and all his secrets but what has she missed from being cutoff?
It is crazy how much information Cassie was able
to retrieve from Forest’s emails. Really makes you think of what could happen if someone got ahold of your email! How much information would be shared? Cassie made me cringe at times. The lengths that she would go to insert herself in his life! It was crazy! It was an enjoyable yet cringeworthy book. You will find yourself hoping that she doesn’t do what she invariably does anyway!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
They say emails are the windows to the soul -
Cassie, with a boring job - notices personal emails mixed in and begins following the life of Annabelle and Forest. She becomes so intrigued she finds where he gets his morning beverage nd she goes there, she takes a cab to check out his house - and then her obsession leads her to want Annabelle's life. She begins to dress like her, wear her lotion etc.
What will happen as Cassie tries to become Forrest's Annabelle? Does Forrest have any idea he is being stalked? And what about her co-worker? A tense, gripping story of an obsession out of control! What a page turning read!

Thanks to Netgalley and Ballantine Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cassandra has a crappy temp job reviewing old emails at a law firm, a big step down from the job she used to have as a lawyer. While reviewing emails she comes across emails between one of the lawyers, Forest, and his wife, Annabelle, and becomes obsessed with them and ultimately having what they have.

I liked this book. I sort of thought I knew where it was going and would have been disappointed if that had been the whole story, but there was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming which made it a worthwhile read for me. It was a little slow around the middle but ultimately I enjoyed it and I would read more from this author.

I liked this book. The story kept me interested although in the middle of the book it was kind of slow moving. I think that the ending was very far fetched but the rest of the book was remarkable but semi-believable. I like the way the characters related to each other.

Thank you for my copy of this book. 3 1/2 stars.

Disgraced attorney Cassie takes a temp job reviewing legal documents and emails when she stumbles across the email account of one of the firm’s partners. Her curiosity gets the best of her, and she devises a plan to get better acquainted with the partner, and things don’t go as planned. Just One Look leaves just enough breadcrumbs in each chapter to keep you off balance, and the suspense builds as you ride along with Cassie in her crazy quest. And just when you think you know where this is going, you’re thrown off course with a series of events that brings the story to another level. Although a little slow at points when Cassie is going off the rails, the payoff is worth the wait. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. I literally couldn’t put this book down and finished in one reading. The twists and turns that come after will give you whiplash. I literally couldn’t put this down until I found out the truth. What would you do if you had a look into the lives of someone. The intimate details. Would you do everything you can to become a part of their life? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a fun and deliciously demented little journey. Cassie Woodson is/was an attorney. Down on her luck, she’s getting by in New York through mundane temp jobs. That is until she gets her latest job and gets a glimpse at something she shouldn’t be looking at. There’s suspense and mystery and stalkers. What a great, quick read! Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for the chance to read this. I would definitely recommend it to any lover of mystery and suspense.

I loved this one! Imagine becoming obsessed with a man just by coming across some mundane emails he has sent. That is exactly what happens in this new novel. Cassie takes her obsession to a new level recording every single detail of this mans life. She slowly integrates herself into his life and things get real. This book has a lot of twist and turns in it and I raced through it. Definitely a "just one more" chapter book.
