I wish this hadn’t taken me so long to read, it is really enjoyable and hard to put down. Will recommend to family and friends.

I found the writing style in this book very jarring and difficult to read which spoiled a lot of the reading experience for me. The constant repetition of some words was just not appropriate and didn't help the story to flow as much as I would have liked it to. Similarly, a lot of the plotline seemed to appear out of nowhere which didn't help to gain a good understanding of the book however I can, somewhat, see what Richard Martin was attempting to achieve.

Other than that there wasn't much for me in terms of the book. I didn't find it as riveting as I would have liked to purely due to the way it was worded.

Just...bleh. Not my favorite book. Too much on the conspiracy and politics. Maybe it just is not my thing? You never know, you could find readers who enjoy it a lot more.

This was a proper conspiracy theory book! I enjoyed the style of writing, however wish there had been more written about the initial contact from which the whole book panned out...what were the finders doing when they got intercepted? It seems a very convenient start, with little to back it up in terms of technical details to aid understanding. The ending was very sudden too. Explosive, yes and no doubt fast moving, I just felt that this was quite a short book that might have benefitted from more thorough descriptions of the technologies involved.

A conspiracy science/political thriller, THE HYDRAX GAMBLE examines how far scientists and politicians will go to satisfy needs and greed: or, Does the outcome justify the method? A lot of Conspiracy, a surfeit of greed and political maneuvering. Could it happen? First in a Series.

From the very beginning this novel is a ticking time bomb. If you only read one thriller this year be sure to make it this one.
Combining the excitement of a Dan Brown novel, the clever twists and turns of a Robert Ludlum thriller, and the style and panache of a Joseph Kanon plot, the author has created a literary blockbuster with his own unique style.
Richard Martin takes one on an unimaginable journey. I eagerly await The Cygnus Agenda.

When I am looking for a new book to read, I often look at the reviews, especially those that are 3 stars or less. So, when I saw all the 4 and 5 star ratings, I thought The Hydrax Gamble had to be a sure thing. I should have been more suspect that there was only one review.

Maybe I should just say that this book just not for me but I have to leave a comment about the dialog and grammar. Terrible. You reckon? do you reckon, I reckon, he reckons, we all reckon. The language, the tempo, yuck. Thirty percent in and I just couldn’t turn another page.

Thank you NetGalley and Troubadour Publishing for the opportunity to try this book.

I’d love to see more books by this author, featuring the characters from this book. Took a bit of concentration at times, but well worth paying attention as it’s a good mystery. The characters are not always likeable but they are compelling and real. I liked the clarity of prose, too. Highly recommended and hope to see more.
