I was really looking forward to reading about Nellie. Unfortunately, as others here have reported, I couldn’t make out the words. The artwork was nice though. Still I can’t in good conscience review the book without reading it. Sorry.

I was really excited to read this one because I love stories about awesome ladies, but sadly my advance copy was impossible to read. The text was too blurry. The art looked amazing and I love the style. I had only heard a little bit about Nellie Bly from a comedy show and was excited to learn more but unfortunately I'll have to wait until it comes out to read it.

3. 5 stars

If you are looking for a graphic novel that is both historical and feminist, this is the one for you. Nellie Bly’s story is one of female empowerment, breaking barriers as a journalist who fought for the oppressed, and for her own adventures, in the late 1800s. While I’m aware of the women who came before me and fought for my rights, Nellie’s story served as a reminder of the things I can now take for granted, such as travelling alone as a modern woman.

Because this was an e-arc, it was hard to decipher the text at times, but the illustrations were beautiful and, I imagine, will be even more so when printed in colour.

I wish I could have read this title but the quality of the scan was awful. If publishers want an honest review, why send this kind of scan to NetGalley?

I could not read the copy provided. The letters were I complete. That is too bad. The art is amazing.

Lord knows there are plenty of books already about Nellie Bly, but this one is a nice intro to the subject, told in part as she recounts her glory days to an aspiring female journalist in 1921. Like the best graphic bios, it focuses on one part of her life, in this case her 20s and 30s, when she did most of her journalism. The introduction by David Randall gives a brief account of her entire life story, something that’s often missing from books like this. It’s an engrossing read, with art that’s easy to follow and evokes the period beautifully, and the dialogue between Bly and the young journalism student helps provide context.

Packed with beautiful illustrations, I enjoyed this graphic novel starting Nellie Bly. I love that it's told from a young journalist's perspective as she interviews Nellie Bly in Boy's old age. The story seems sweet in that way.

I've always been a big fan of Nellie Bly, and so am excited to see her story written in an approachable, and dare I say, enjoyable style. This doesn't read as a biography, and therefore makes a fantastic biography for people who can find biographies boring. No, Cimino's writing style combined with Algozzino's fantastic illustrations makes this pleasurable as well as informative.

Bly's life makes for fascinating reading material to begin with. She pushed limits and made a career for herself in the late 1800's at a time when women's careers were anything but. She covered hostile working conditions, asylums, and world travel from an investigative journalist perspective, lending her voice to those who didn't have one. She's always been known as an important figure in the social work field, so I'm glad her story can be told in an approachable way for this generation.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was really excited to receive an ARC of this graphic novel about Nellie Bly. I was interested to find out more about the life of a pioneering woman, and I love graphic novels.

Unfortunately, in the copy I received, all the speech bubbles were so pixelated that I couldn’t read them, even zoomed in on a large screen. I imagine this is to prevent high quality copies being illegally shared (lightly pixelating review copies is a common practice for graphic novels, but usually you can at least read the text). Both myself and NetGalley contacted the publisher to alert them to the issue, but as they have not responded in any way, I am forced to leave a negative review. Hopefully the actual graphic novel will not be pixelated, and so the beautiful art work, and the speech, will all come through.

I was given a free copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

After the exciting introduction to Nellie Bly, I was so disappointed that the the text in the graphic novel is pixelated and unreadable. I’m a graphic designer and can see this was exported at the wrong quality and not as a high resolution PDF. The illustrations are beautiful, but also pixelated.

When a legible version of this graphic novel is released I would absolutely love to read it. I see so many people giving the same feedback, do let us know when this will be available to read.

Thank you to Abrams and #NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read a digital ARC of The Incredible Nellie Bly: Journalist, Investigator, Feminist, and Philanthropist by Luciana Cimino. This graphic novel will be released March 2, 2021. All opinions are my own.

Nellie Bly was born in 1846 and did not allow herself to be restricted by the constraints of her time period. Instead, she pushed the envelope and challenged the role of women in society. This graphic novel is told in the style of an interview between a fictionalized female journalism student from Columbia in 1921 and an aging Nellie Bly. It focuses on her self-reliance which started at an early age, the letter to the editor that kickstarted her journalism career, other major journalism feats, and her dedication to empowering women.

Sadly, the galley I received was very difficult to read as the text was very spotty and zooming in only made it more unreadable. I worked my through it and read to the end. From what I could make out, Bly's story is very interesting. I love a good nonfiction book and love that this one is told via graphic novel. The illustrations were clear, bright, and really brought the story to life. The story seems well researched, but I had to give it only 3 stars as, in its current galley form, I wasn't able to fully read and enjoy the entire story.

I received a free E-ARC of this book from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My favourite way to read non fiction, especially memoirs, is through graphic novels. I was very excited to read this book as Nellie Bly is a fascinating character, however I can not give you an honest review of this book as I struggled to read the text in its current form. I assume this is a render choice for the arc and if it is fixed I would love to give this book another try.

The three stars I'm giving this book is based on the text I could make out and the samples at the beginning that showed what the full color novel will look like. Also I personally love learning about women's history. I optimistically expect the finished product could be bumped up to a four star.

Such a shame that this galley didn’t work properly!

From what I could see/read, it’s a really interesting story with lovely illustrations.

This particular galley was very hard to read, with the text very light and spotty, but I still managed to be able to read it all the way through. The Incredible Nellie Bly is a short biography for anyone interested in her life and career. It's enough for someone wanting to know the basics of her story but also a good starting off point for someone who wants to learn more. While I believe it's intended as an adult graphic novel, it has a lot of appeal for YA readers too. The art, from what I could see, was very striking at points and I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks clearly and in color.

There are some stories that never lose their impact, and the life and influence of Nelly Bly fall into that category. I teach Ten Days in a Mad House in my first-year college course, and this graphic biography will fit in perfectly. The fact that it is a story by a woman journalist about a woman journalist adds even more to the package. The illustrations are clear and engaging, a thoroughly well-done piece.

Thank you to Abrams ComicArts and NetGalley for an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to go ahead and give it a three-star because the introduction was legible and the graphics were lovely. I, like my fellow reviewers, could not read the speech bubbles, which is the basis for removing two stars. I am unsure if this is a typesetting error, a rendering error, or something else entirely. I definitely plan on revisiting this title once it has been published to see if these issues were resolved. I am truly intrigued by how the story of Nellie Bly would shine through the graphic format if only I could read what was happening.

I hate to leave a review like this, but I don't know what else to do. I downloaded a copy of The Incredible Nellie Bly to my Kindle Fire so that I would have a nice big screen to see the graphic novel's panels. I opened the book with great anticipation because I was really looking forward to reading the story. Unfortunately, I was immediately disappointed by the formatting. Although I could read the introduction, I could not really comprehend it because the margin cut off the last two to three words of every sentence. As a result, I skipped that section and dove right into the book. The pictures were blurry but acceptable. Sadly, the text in the bubbles was completely unreadable. I cannot review a book I cannot read. Very disappointed.

I was unable to read the ARC of The Incredible Nellie Bly. I tried loading the epub on my e-ink Kobo and also on my computer, and the formatting makes it nearly impossible to read. I did not try my phone since I can only expect that to be even worse on a tiny screen. The text section at the beginning was cut off, and the text in the speech bubbles is so blurry it is impossible to read.. I can't find a PDF version through Netgalley, that may help with the improperly formatted text, but not sure it can help with the blurry text. This is such a pity, because I was very excited to see an homage to her in graphic novel form. I previously read "Eighty Days: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland's History-Making Race Around the World", so I have some passing familiarity with her work as an undercover reporter inside mental health institutions and her trip around the world, and was really looking forward to reading something focusing on Nelly. I'll keep an eye out for the release version. I sure hope the formatting is fixed and that it is released as an ebook too; from flipping through the pages, this is a book I'd like to have both as a hard copy to enjoy the color art, and as an ebook so I can read more easily on the go.

I am interested in the story of Nellie Bly. Unfortunately while the drawings were good, I had trouble reading the speech bubbles because they were too faint and blurry even after zooming in a lot. I'm sure the artists did their research to create an interesting story but it was a pain to read. If the quality improves, I would be willing to try reading this again.

Unfortunately very difficult to read on kindle or via the app, I was very interested in. reading this so I will purchase the book when it is available .

While I really enjoyed the story and the artwork, the image quality of the e-book made it a struggle to read, due to the blurriness of the lettering, no matter how I tried to zoom in or out it did not get clearer. The same was the case whether I opened it in the NetGalley app or Kindle, whether on my phone or tablet. That I still finished the book is a testament to how good the story is, and I do think it will be an excellent graphic novel for young women, with an amazing example and role model in Ms. Bly.
