Was expecting a riveting read, a roadmap for female friendships, a true guide full of details and stories and what made each friendship unique enough to be mentioned in this compendium about friendship. Instead, was disappointed to see a page or so about each friendship, the words reading more like the pitch or the first draft of a book that will need to be filled in later to really give any depth or something of meaning and worth to the reader. Sadly, this wasn't the case for me. Reading each friendship, I wasn't even sure what lesson I was supposed to be taking from each one, so the pointer to read a friendship per week to really get into the spirit of the lesson offered completely fell flat, because there just wasn't a lesson per se to catch, at least not per my reading. Disappointing, especially after all the hype around this book

Leid goes on ‘50 dates’ that prioritized her friendships, and over the course of these meetings and the lessons, this book empowers women to be themselves and encourages them to recognize the power of important relationships in life, to open up and reach out, to connect and grow, to belong.

I love books about female friendships, and I really liked the idea behind this book, where the author meets fifty extraordinary women and shares life lessons from their walks of life with the readers. It is also kinda similar to the idea I have for my new podcast '11 Questions', so bonus points!

Thank you netgalley for this ARC.

If 2020 has taught us anything – between social injustice, quarantine and the election – it’s that women need other women. And this book by Shari Leid is the perfect reminder!

In it she explains on how she prioritized her friendships by going on “50 dates.” After each date, each woman’s essence (and a professional photo) is captured.

In this book, readers will understand how to:

--Know your talents and gifts, emphasize your own worth
--Create long-lasting, deeper friendships
--Learn from people who are different from you
--Engage in face-to-face meetings
--Cherish the people who create an impact in your life
--Give one another the gift of time
--Support women and create a sense of commonality and belonging
--Recognize the power you have in creating joy in others
--Live with more gratitude
--Bring out the best in others (without involving your ego)
--Become more observant and really “see” people
--Change the energy in a room
--Learn, grow and teach with every encounter

And many more… In fact, after every “date,” she gives you a journal entry and synopsis. I don’t want to give the whole book away, so you’ll get the gist with these bullets.

The goal for this book is to encourage more women (and men) to open up and reach out. Connect and grow. After all, we all just want a sense that we belong.

I liked the idea of this book, but sadly, I don't think I get anything from this that I didn't know about already. I think I'm just not the right audience for this book. Maybe if I were younger, I would have appreciated this book more.
