Hannah hasn’t had much luck in love since splitting with her boyfriend Tom 12 months ago.

Her friend Jasmine convinces her to join a dating app and she does so to and meets Alex.

On their first date he’s everything she could have asked for and they have so much in common she can’t believe her luck. He’s handsome and a successful solicitor - what more could she ask for?

The relationship turns serious quickly and Jas tries to warn her off him. Is he who she thinks he is?

This is a great psychological thriller and I liked the slow build of the story.

Alex was a great character and one I wasn’t sure was genuine or not. Hannah was easily manipulated but not just by Alex but by her friends too.

The ending was soooo good and although I was kind of guessing what would happen I didn’t quite get it right!

This was my first book I’d read by Sue Watson and it won’t be my last.

Honestly, Sue Watson has become a favorite author of mine the last few years. She has never disappointed me and this book was no different. Each book has been so different and equally enjoyable. Worth giving a Saturday up for this gem.

Somebody help me now! This book confused the hell of me! How can a book start as two starred, below the average reading ( no thanks to dislikable heroine) and end as five starred, WTH, this is deliciously twisty and smart reading, it blew my mind!

This book seemed to lack the thrill factor for me. I kept waiting for something to happen but it just didnt. The ending was ok. I found it really hard to connect to the character of Hannah as she frustrated so much.

Sue Watson has done it again. From the beginning of this book I was hooked. Fresh on the dating scene hoping to find Mr. Right, Hannah begins a new relationship. Alex seems perfect. But is his?! As you read further on,you think you know... but do you?! This masterpiece had me up all night because I couldn't put it down. If you haven't read this yet, you need to put it on your list!

36yr old Hannah is happy with her life, with one exception. She's alone with no one to share her life with. An internet date sets her up with Alex, the man of her dreams. It's love at first site.

No, this is not a romance novel. Sue Watson skillfully sets up the story so that many readers will say.....really?.....a man too good to be true is exactly that. But Ms Watson performs her magic and suddenly, Hannah's perfect life is maybe no so perfect and Alex does not quite that happily ever after picture she started with. But hang on, all is NOT as it seems and this story is most definitely in for a few good twists. This is a great read with some very exciting parts that will keep you reading right up to the reveal where.......yeah, I'm not going to tell you but trust me, you'll love it!!!!

This was an entertaining thriller if a little predictable. It was a good escapist read and would be perfect for a holiday or staycation.

This book was too cheesy...it reminded me of a Lifetime movie.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book for my honest review.

Despite being a Social Worker, Hannah, it has to be said, is a bit of a dimwit! She can’t or won’t read the signs and none of the red flags seem to get through her rose tinted glasses when she meets the dream man she found online. Anyone with an iota of sense would have run a mile but not dopey Hannah. I was always under the impression that Social Workers were busy busy the whole day through but not it seems Hannah and her colleagues who seem to have plenty of time for chats throughout the day. Thought the beginning and end were great but the middle was annoying. I was compelled to read it all just to see if Hannah was ever going to see the light. It was very easy to get into and the pages just flew by and I did enjoy the story.

This book was a real page turner from beginning to end. I truly found it impossible to put down and finished it within a day!.

The story follows Hannah Weston, a woman who, after dealing with a difficult breakup decides – with some encouragement from her best friend/co-worker Jas – to try the world of online dating. And this is where she meets Alex. He has a great job and a wonderful house, he quite honestly seems too perfect, so Hannah feels very lucky to be dating him.

The story is so perfectly written, with a plot that is full of twists and turns along with the perfect level of suspense which grasps your attention fully. There are so many interesting characters all with their own complex lives, and the ways in which their lives intertwine throughout the book was wonderful.

I obviously dont want to spoil this book for anyone… but I will say, that the twist at the end of this book was one I truly did NOT see coming! It was truly incredible and perfectly finished off a fascinating book.

I LOVED this! Yes it’s far fetched and the usual frustrations of ‘what are you doing!!!!’ But it’s a gripping read that had my heart racing. Social worker Hannah meets Alex who seems perfect....but things aren’t always as they seem! A fab read

Hannah has been out of the dating scene for some time, so her best friend/work supervisor, Jas, convinces her to download a dating app. After a few swipes, Hannah finds her virtual prince charming: Alex. Hannah and Alex have their first date, and she is absolutely smitten. The two have everything in common from their favorite vacation to their dreams of a family to wanting the same dog. As Hannah tries to balance her new relationship with her full-time job as a social worker, Alex's red flags start to appear. Everyone can see them - especially her friends and coworkers. As everyone around her questions Alex and their relationship, Hannah brushes the questions off and grows irritated that her friends can't see what she sees. Hannah truly believes Alex is "The One," but how many red flags will she ignore before it's too late?

First Date was a fascinating book. While I found the book fascinating in the end, I struggled with the first two-thirds of it. I thought the book was super slow as I grew irate with Hannah and her relationships with both Alex and others. I think the hardest thing about reading this book was trying to sympathize with/understand Hannah and her view of Alex; Alex's toxic traits (including stalking, lying, possessiveness) were blatant yet Hannah brushed them all off so easily even though she works in social work, specifically with cases of domestic abuse and neglect. However, I think reading from Hannah's viewpoint about her relationship illuminated things about toxic relationships, like how quickly they can develop and how manipulative they can be, that I am not familiar with. The overarching reason I say First Date is fascinating, though, is its ending - I think the ending/last third of this book is brilliant, and makes it worth a read. I can't say First Date will go on my must-read shelf, but I think if you like a good thriller and can put up with some shitty characters, this could be a great book for you!
