A clear and measured guide to navigating times when your career isn't going to plan for reasons outside of your control. The author speaks from experience and is a calm, encouraging companion for what is universally acknowledged as a stressful life event, pandemic or otherwise! Lots of practical tips which those who haven't had to put a CV or cover letter together for a while will find very useful. The "take care of yourself" section was also a valuable inclusion. Highly recommended for anyone facing a redundancy, job uncertainty or who has graduated during the pandemic.

Thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for an ARC.

I actually started reading this book after seeing it on Net Galley last year / earlier this year when I started thinking about moving on from my job. Now it didn’t exactly fit my situation and I kind of fell out of it once I got my new job but managed to still go through it recently.

But it is a fantastic book. (continued) https://fashionandfrappes.com/my-june-reads-everything-i-read-in-june-2021/

This book is a great guide and booster for those who have lost a job and/or lacking the motivation to move forward. It would be an excellent gift for people who have graduated during the pandemic.

In CAREER CRISIS PLAN, Philip Kent-Hughes has meshed personal experience, hard-earned business expertise, and compassionate straight talk into an accessible, actionable, and wise guide for those suffering job loss and/or wanting to shift gears in their career. In clear, forthright prose, he offers a way out of the confusion, doubt, and stunned disbelief that often result when facing loss, unexpected, dreaded, or anticipated. I felt wiser and better capable as a result of the read and deeply appreciate his delving into his own brutal experience to help those of us affected by the lockdowns and other abrupt, horrific endings to the way we thought things were when we imagined we were in charge of our fates. He puts the individual back in charge of their fate and walks alongside with encouragement, tools, techniques, and perspectives that will help in all life circumstances. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my unbiased review.

Stumbled across this book after I was laid off from my job (after working there for 5 years). The first 40% of the book contained some nuggets of wisdom / good quotes but could largely be summed up to “Use O*NET”. The second half of the book was more along the lines of what I expected from this book and found it to be educational.

Copy provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I apologize for the late review!

I work as a career coach when I'm not reading and I thought this looked interesting. It's not a bad book but it wasn't anything new. A lot of books have already covered this ground.

What is ‘career crisis’? Many of us may not have a clear idea about it but to some degree, we all face it—not just once, but many times in our lifetime. This is kind of a phase when people lose jobs, face a major downfall in their career, plan to change their career, couldn't adjust to their personal, family, and financial problems, and in some cases, go through all such situations!

Practically, it can be very tough to deal with and I am not even mentioning its impact on mental health and wellbeing. Some phases are inevitable; one can never be sure when he will realize that he needs a career change or long-term unemployment makes it difficult to decide to find a stable job. During such time, one needs a guide who can help him through that difficult time; “Career Crisis Plan” works exactly like that guide.

This is kind of a book you cannot read casually because it demands a situation it supposes to help. Author Philip Kent-Hughes makes it easy to understand this crisis and its different aspects. Throughout this book, he intends to help those who feel stuck in such a crisis. To help them, he precisely explains a plan that includes methods to develop new career options, deciding the best career, emergency responses to the crisis, searching for a new job during unemployment, and offers various suggestions that can be helpful while making CV, networking and preparing for interviews.

For me, reading this book wasn't an option but a choice. I needed every bit of information and guidance that I learned from it. The best part of this book was when the author suggests to look after ourselves and maintain a healthy mindset. I am surely going to reread this book to better understand some contents and their significance.

I will surely not recommend this book for a casual read, but instead, I will recommend reading it only when there might be such a crisis going on. That way it will be more impactful and one can also read it to prepare himself for a career crisis, but he will need to read it again when the time will come to act on it.

This book has got practical and good implementable advices for people who are searching for a job or a career change. Though this book is being pushed for those who have lost their job during the current pandemic the tips and detailed description of the path to be taken during job search is comprehensive enough to be used at any stage. Across the book Kent-Hughes has also included useful templates for budgeting, tracking your application status and useful links to job boards.

This is s useful guide for any individual who is looking for or considering a job change and I'd definitely recommend this book.

It's hard to find a career guide that provides unique information as they all tend to say the same thing. You can glean interesting and helpful career tips from this book, it is especially useful if you need guidance making a plan to start or continue a job search. There are ideas in here that you probably haven't thought of before. It is written for an Australian audience but it is easy to adapt the hints and help for any Country. I live in the USA and I still found the book helpful.
