Heart wrenching a book that gripped me from the opening pages. We are introduced to Liam and his daughter Alannah on the run the mother Emma not with them. Each character is going through their own emotional tormented journey. When we are introduced to the mother and she shares her inner thoughts we realize this a family is in turmoil.A book that will move and sadden you.The author has a brilliant style her characters come alive kept me turning the pages.A book that lingers in your mind even when you finish the last page.#netgalley #legendboojs

Soldier Boy was so not what I expected. I warning would’ve been nice, to know what I should expect. I honestly wouldn’t have read the book if I knew… but I have and I finished it and I just don’t know what to feel…

Cassandra Parkin spun an emotionally exhausting story. From the start I was drowning deeper and deeper into the character’s heads, full of hate and rage and confusion.

The story is told from different points of view. The story follows Liam - the father -, Emma - the mother -, Alannah - their daughter, and also Frank and Jane, Liam’s parents. That’s a whole lot of characters to sort through and what makes it more difficult to follow the story is that some chapters are is first person, some in the third.

I’m giving 3 stars mainly because of the unexpected content.

I received an ARC from Legend Press through NetGalley, thank you.

The story is told from various points of view. Liam, who has recently been discharged from the army. His wife, Emma, who seems to never stop being an army wife. His troubled daughter Alannah and his parents. They all have their own set of demons.

The book is very thought provoking. It's quite dark but very sensitivity and beautifully written. It's quite the page turner, tense and leaves you needing to find out more in the following chapters. It opens your eyes to things you don't think about. I enjoyed this book

Soldier Boy by Cassandra Parkin was a really good book. I enjoyed this book a lot, but at times felt like it was two separate books merged into one. It felt like Liam's story and Alannah's story really could have been two books but were instead combined into one book. I don't think this took away from either story, but I do think at times it felt like there was too much happening because each plot line demanded attention, and it almost felt like they didn't mesh? I really enjoyed reading it, really enjoyed the characters- all of them- and really enjoyed the plots, but there were definitely moments when I felt like this would have been better as two books rather than one.
