Two stories in one! I love the Tracy Crosswhite series and this entry was no exception. Tracy has gotten moved to the Cold Case team and is trying to solve not one but three cases. “In Her Tracks” is a little darker that past Crosswhite stories but still very satisfying. Most of the book is devoted to one of the cases and I wish Dugoni had give equal time to the other one.

Dugoni has written a page turner and one that I’d recommend to any fan of the Tracy Crosswhite series! Finished it in one day!

The book starts with the disappearance of a five year old girl five years earlier in the prologue. In the present day Tracy returns from her leave to deal with a dilemma of getting relegated to cold cases unit or to quit. Once that is resolved, she takes up the girl's case while also helping her previous partner in a current missing persons case. The investigation into both cases occur concurrently and the author clearly delineates the two. This is more of an individual work by Tracy and not much input from her team, rather there's not much of a team. There are some good paragraphs on parenting and the importance of the domestic atmosphere in a child's upbringing which are valuable. As for the story and suspense, the author doesn't disappoint. A must read.

In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni is the latest in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I enjoy this series very much and In Her Tracks has two mysteries or cases in book eight.
The first scene is set during Halloween five years in the past when little Elle Chin goes missing while with her father in a corn maze. The mother and father have been embroiled in a bitter divorce and Elle is the person suffering emotionally the most. The mother and father blame each other for Elle's disappearance.
Tracy returns to work after the birth of her daughter and some time for emotional health with her A-Team detectives and discovers her position has been filled with a detective from another team. She is forced to take the vacancy in the Cold Case office. Although she is furious, Tracy decides to give it a chance because of her experience in searching for her missing sister. She begins to work on the case of Elle Chin when she is asked to help with a new missing person case. As Tracy helps her former partner with the search for missing nineteen-year-old Stephanie Cole, she discovers two of the missing case files on her desk may be related to the area where Stephanie was last seen.
I won't post spoilers, but the overlapping cases prove to reveal hidden cases of abuse and murder which has been happening for two generations. Also, Tracy solves the case of the missing Elle Chin with surprising results!

IN HER TRACKS.......Robert Dugoni
Tracy has been on maternity leave, coming back to her job, no longer a place among the detectives. Finding others had been promoted since she wasn’t there. Only opening cold cases of violent crimes, the ones that had given her nightmares. She wasn’t about retiring till she was ready.
Bobby Chin a Seattle police cop having his daughter Elle for the day. A treat was to go to the corn maze within minutes the five year old girl is missing. His soon to be ex in a bitter divorce
Rowe asks Tracy for help in his missing case a nineteen year old girl out jogging. It deals with child abuse, abduction. The author has woven the cases together of difficult cases, and what and who are behind them. Given ARC my voluntary review and my honest opinion from Net Galley and Thomas & Mercer.

Thanks to Net Galley for sending me a free copy of this book to read and review.
Robert Dugoni’s newest book, “ In Her Tracks” is a fine police procedural featuring Tracy Crosswhite, a police officer on Seattle’s Violent Crimes Section.
The book begins with Tracy returning to work after convalescing from the injuries and emotional stress she suffered In a case described in the previous book in the series. (Note that it is not necessary to have read that book to fully appreciate this one. ) Upon returning to the office, she finds her position on the the VIolent Crime Section is currently not available. Instead, her Captain, with whom Tracy has an adversarial relationship, offers her the Old Case Files office. Reluctantly, she takes the job and immediately finds herself immersed in the years old case case of a missing six year old, while at the same time keeping herself abreast of a Months- old case of missing prostitutes .
As with any police procedural novel, , Mr. Dugoni leads the reader through the painstaking steps taken to solve a case. Detailed, but not ever dull or boring , the investigation opens old wounds for Tracy, whose own sister went missing, and was found dead. Tracy cares about every victim and every case consumes her attention. She is an interesting , fully drawn character.
As the story progresses with the investigation moves to its expected conclusion , Dugoni throws a wicked curve ball that will assuredly stop every reader cold , as it did me. It is a twist that changes everything you thought had figured out., butIt is a logical logical and well set up surprise. It leads to an exciting climatic finish.
Summary : another good book by Mr. Dugoni that is easy to recommend to al fans of crime thrillers, and one which easily deserves my five-star rating.
Cautions: Adult themes, but nothing gross .

In “In Her Tracks” by Robert Dugoni we are brought back into the world of Seattle detective Tracy Crosswhite. After an extended leave Tracy is told her old job was not available and she would now be taking over the cold case unit. As she begins to delve into the case of a missing 5-year-old, she is brought into an active case of a missing jogger, that more than mirrors two of her cold cases. As she follows the clues both old and new her past starts to come front and center and danger appears around every corner.

Another great Tracy Crosswhite story with all the old characters coming in to lend a hand. We see the love Dan has for Tracy as well as the respect Kins and Faz have for her.

I received an ARC of this book through Net Galley and this is my honest review.

I am a huge fan of the Tracy Crosswhite series by Robert Dugoni. As In Her Tracks makes clear, Detective Tracy Crosswhite worked hard for every promotion and award. No one smoothed her way but she's proven herself many times over and won the respect of her colleagues. She's not free from the intrigue and politics that permeates the workplace. Certainly, her police chief takes great pleasure in making her life difficult. This latest time is particularly bad. Tracy returns from a leave of absence to find another woman has been given her slot in Serious Crimes and been assigned to her partner. Tracy can take a lateral move to Cold Cases where she would work alone and be subject to greater emotional distress or she can retire. And she's given the day to decide.
Cold Cases had been managed by one officer and he cared deeply about the victims. He appeals to Tracy's empathy with the victims and their families. Though Tracy expects that Cold Cases will be difficult emotionally, she takes it on.
Soon, her old partner asks for her help with an active case -- a young woman has been abducted and might still be alive. Tracy investigates but under the cover of her cold cases. As she zeroes in on a suspicious family, she searches for dark secrets and another young woman who went missing.
Dugoni delivers another suspenseful and satisfying mystery in In Her Tracks. We are drawn into Tracy's struggle but even the antagonists are human. In Her Tracks gives us a well developed, character driven mystery. I read straight through the night and am looking forward to finding out what is next in Tracy Crosswhite's life.

This book was a fast read for me. The story didn’t lag, kept my interest, had a couple good twists at the end. I’d recommend it to anyone that likes police/crime genre. Robert Dugoni is fast becoming one of my go to authors for that type of novel.

In Her Tracks, by Robert Dugoni, is book eight of the Tracy Crosswhite series. Tracy, coming off maternity leave, is assigned to work on cold cases. One of her cold cases has a lot in common with a current case of a missing girl, so Tracy is reunited with her old partner. This is yet another solid book in the series; however, I found some of the language and story to be slightly problematic and triggering. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

I always love the Crosswhite series and this was another winner! This was an amazing story that was well written from the start to finish. I’m glad that I got to read this and I loved the new cold case aspect, I can’t wait to see how it plays out in future stories. I was able to relate a lot to Tracy as I’m a new mom myself so it was refreshing to read about real struggles, parenting and new responsibilities.

In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni is such a good book. It's a riveting, mind-blowing, page-turning, heart-breaking, and heart-warming mystery from page 1. I couldn't read the book fast enough. I'm a huge fan of the Tracy Crosswhite books and all of Dugoni's books, for that matter. Each book is done so well.

Dugoni is masterful in creating characters and a story that has a reader laughing, crying, and racing to find out what will happen next.

The plots are done expertly and always have a jaw-dropping surprise. The only bad thing about the book is that I get sad when I come to the end of the story because I just want to keep reading about the characters and their adventures.

Please keep these books coming! One of my favorite writers and storytellers.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
Dugoni never disappoints! Once again he has written a thrilling page turner!
Tracy is assigned to cold cases - the first case is a 5 year old who disappeared while playing hide and seek in a corn maze with her daddy. The couple is in a bitter divorce. So questions are there - who would take the girl? why? Will they find her? Is she alive?
And then another case comes - a young girl disappears while jogging. This reminds Tracy so much of when her sister disappeared.
In questioning things are uncovered which leads to a shocking house of secrets and horrors. Will they find the girl alive? Why was she taken? Be prepared to stay up all night to find the answers!!! This was a great book!

A big thank you to NetGalley, as well as Thomas & Mercer publishing for this free advance copy in return for an honest review. For his 8th Tracy Crosswhite mystery, the author tackles missing children, Cold Cases, and some truly nasty people involved in kidnapping and abuse. For me this is the first time I have read this popular author and it certainly will not be the last.
The story begins 5 years prior to today when Seattle Police Officer, Bobby Chin takes his five year old daughter, Elle, to a local corn maze and when the lights go out he loses the child. This is every parents fear, that something over which they have no control will rob them of their child.
Dugoni then shifts to present day when detective Tracy Crosswhite reports for duty after having taken time off for the birth of her daughter. Upon her return she discovers that her position among the detectives has been taken and she is forced to basically choose between retirement or working Cold Cases, a difficult decision but one that is made a bit easier after her interaction with the retiring detective working those cases.
Once those basics are worked out, we become immersed in the case of a missing lady jogger, as well as Crosswhite’s decision to try and solve the Elle Chin disappearance. We also get to experience how Crosswhite deals with her work-related separation from her daughter, as well as her psychological issues that came to the fore in a prior book.
Prior events from these past books play a big part in Crosswhite’s handling of matters, and so if you are just jumping into this series you are a bit lost as to all that had transpired in the prior books, but it is not a fatal flaw just one helps us understand the issues she faces while dealing with lost children, cold cases and the missing jogger.
The author moves seamlessly between cases, and does a wonderful job of helping the reader feel the tension that surrounds a missing persons case, the agony of dealing with Cold Cases, and the predators who are involved in the kidnapping and abuse. He even shows how 3 brothers have been affected by their abusive father and how that abuse leads to their current problems as well as one brother abusing his other two siblings.
There are lots of twists and turns in this book and it turns out that not everything is as easily solved as it first appears. Also, all of the abuse and torture appears outside of the book so that there are no really squeamish parts of this book.
A fast and fascinating read, this book should really please all of Dugoni’s fans and, if you have just discovered Dugoni as I have, this book will certainly bring him a host of new readers who will scramble to read the first seven books in this series. Originally posted at mysteryandsuspense.com

A major page turner! One of the best Tracy Crosswhite instalments yet. I adore this series, from the lovable characters to the fantastic storylines to the amazing writing. This book was everything I expected and more. Nail biting suspense, twist and turns galore and one heck of a finale. This was a unique book where you have the perps perspective in some chapters, writing from their point of view. But as with most fantastic thrillers you don’t know the whole story until the very end. Loved the plot twist in this and the brutal finale. This one is a must read!

This is the latest Tracy Crosswhite book, and it is exceptional, as are the others. In this story, Tracy has returned to the force after maternity leave, and finds she is reassigned to the Cold Case files. Not thrilled with this turn of events, Tracy digs in and does her professional best, as always, and knocks it out of the ballpark. The plot and characters are well developed, characters appear very real, the story clear and not vague, and there are many interesting twists and turns, and a couple of them I did not see coming. While Tracy Crosswhite is a series, all of the books can be read as stand alone. Highly recommend if you like crime and procedural stories. Five stars!
Thank you to Robert Dugoni, Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

A big Thank You!!!!, to Netgalley and the publisher for my early access of In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni and Thomas & Mercer publishing. All opinions in this review are my own honest opinion. If you do not agree, it's ok! :) We all are are own people. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes Mystery & Thrillers. I have read ALL the Tracy Crosswhite books and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one too. After returning from her extended maternity leave due to the outcome of the previous book Tracy finds herself being reassigned to cold cases. This is when she finds the file of a missing 5yr old girl, that then leads her into juggling other case with is an active investigation with her former partner Kins involving missing young women. Sensitive issues arise, but so does in all of his books. The epilogue really did end things neatly.

5 stars

Detective Tracy Crosswhite returns to work after a long break for maternity and other reasons. She finds her desk occupied and her job given to another woman. Her boss offers her the lead in the Cold Case Squad. Reluctantly, Tracy takes it. Her first cases are the missing Elle Chin, a five-year-old that has been missing for five years and two missing prostitutes.

Her former partner, Kinsington “Kins” Rowe asks for Tracy's help in his own missing person case. Nineteen-year-old Stephanie Cole was jogging when she disappeared.

Elle's parents, Jewel is a self-obsessed woman while Bobby is a Seattle police officer, were going through a very bitter divorce when Elle disappeared. Bobby was taking his daughter to the corn maze at a Halloween park when the abduction (?) happened.

Tract deftly juggles the two cases, with the Stephanie case seeming to take priority. There are three brothers living in a house down the street from the park where the jogger went missing. Tracy and Kins get odd vibes off of them. Then they catch them in lies. A helpful neighbor and his little dog tell what they saw.

This is a non-stop investigation. Tracy scuttles from place to place interviewing and talking to assorted people. She has her suspicions. When it becomes clear where Stephanie might be – hopefully she is still alive – Tracy contact the local police department and takes off to the location.

She also successfully discovers what happened to Elle on that Halloween visit with her father.

This is a very well written and plotted novel. In spite of the three investigations, the pace is good and the transitions are very well done. The reader also gets to learn the story from the perpetrator's point of view. I like Tracy, and was glad to see that she is slowing down – if only a little. I liked Kins too. The characters in this book are very real and I could picture them while they were being interviewed and going about their business. There are some surprises to discover. I like the way Mr. Dugoni just casually snuck them in the story.

I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for forwarding to me a copy of this book for me to read, enjoy and review.
