Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself reassigned to the Seattle PD’s cold case unit after an extended leave. As a new mother, Tracy is drawn to the case of a missing child that was abducted at five years of age during her parents' bitter divorce. In the process of tracking down old avenues, Tracy is asked by her recent partner for help with a current case. A young woman has vanished from a jogging trail, with no clues left to her current location. Will Tracy be able to connect the dots before it is too late to help the young woman?

I actually like the direction that Tracy's character is taking, as her new position in cold cases can open up new areas of exploration. Tracy Crosswhite is a strong, determined woman that uses the tragedy of her past as motivation to solve cases. Having read all of the other books in the series, In Her Tracks fits in well, regarding pacing and character development. Overall, I would recommend that new readers start at the beginning, as nuances of the character would be lost. I look forward to reading more by author Robert Dugoni in the future.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of In Her Tracks by NetGalley and the publisher, Thomas & Mercer. The decision to read and review this novel was entirely my own.

This was the first book I have read in this series, and surprisingly the first Dugoni book. I swear I had read another of his, but Goodreads says I haven't. Goodreads has never let me down so far, so I guess this is my first outing!
I don't think the fact that it was book 8 was the difficulty for me, it was fully explained. But I think I wasn't as engaged with the characters as I would have been.
Some of the plot I really enjoyed, but some parts really slowed the pace down more than I wanted and made it difficult for me to give a higher rating.

Robert Dugoni has long been one of my favorite authors - probably in my top 10 - mostly due to his diversity as a storyteller. This is the eigth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series, and if you look into my reviews of the past 3-4 books in the series, you can see a frustration about how the series had taken a turn for the worse. I may even have pleaded Dugoni to stop the series if he let Crosswhite remain the emotional, blubberering shadow of the kickass crime fighter from the first books of the series that she had turned after becoming first pregnant and then a mother.
Well, it seems like Dugoni has listened, because the five strong stars on top of this review shows that the vintage Crosswhite is back with a passion and will to put bad guys behind bars and solve crimes that others have given up on. Her nemesis, Captain Nolasco, is still around to mess with her career upon her return to the force after her leave, and the chemistry between them remains toxic, so instead of returning to her old job, she is left with no other option than working cold cases that few expect her to succeed in solving. But Crosswhite's persistence and smarts is not to be underestimated, and suddenly she has also been included in an investigation with her old teammates.
I am so happy that Dugoni has pulled the Crosswhite series back on track, and the eighth installation shows so much promise that I can't wait for number nine!

Having read all of the Tracy Crosswhite novels, I was excited to read the latest in the series. I love how the author tells a story within a story. Following Tracy throughout her career and marriage and now motherhood and juggling the balance of working with a boss she has never gotten along with and her love for her job are story lines that are just as interesting as her cases.
In this latest novel, she is working on a cold case involving a former police officer that will test her boundaries as to how far she is willing to solve a crime and the price that those involved could pay if she is successful.

This is a great series and this installment did not disappoint. I recommend reading the prior books in order to fully understand the backstory. Very well written and suspenseful.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I binged this one in about 24 hours. I am a big fan of a book that has two different story lines, whether or not they cross, I love having two things to focus on and it helps for me to not lose interest throughout the book. I loved the lead character and how she was strong and stood up to her boss in the ways that she could. I loved the two mystery cases and they both kept me intrigued throughout the entirety. One thousand percent recommend this read.

Enthralling, kept me on my toes until the end.
I always enjoy reading this series about Detective Tracy Crosswhite.

In Her Tracks is another brilliant installment in the Tracy Crosswhite series. This is the 8th book and Robert Dugoni continues to knock it out of the park. I stumbled across this series a few years ago when Amazon had a ‘deal if the day’ and have been eagerly reading each new offering. Although this is part of a series, the story stands on its own. It is not necessary to read the prior books to appreciate In Her Tracks.

When Detective Crosswhite returns from maternity leave, she finds that she has been replaced on the Seattle Violent Crimes Squad and relegated to reviewing cold cases, including a 5 year old girl who went missing in the midst of her parents bitter divorce. She also becomes embroiled in PD politics while unofficially helping her former partner investigate the disappearance of a young woman who vanished while jogging and failed to show up for a party. The story flows beautifully. The plot is fully realized and realistic.

Dugoni’s stories are fresh. He hasn’t become formulaic like so many of my past favorite authors. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an uncorrected galley in exchange for an honest review.

I am already a huge Robert Dugoni fan and thus far I have enjoyed all his books. I was not expecting anything less from this book. However, during the first 30% - 40% I thought the story is a bit predictable and for a moment I thought Robert had lost his touch. How wrong I was! Nothing was predictable! In good old Robert fashion the story took twists and turns I definitely did not see coming. As always I was very delighted and thoroughly enjoyed the book.

In Her Tracks by Robert Dugoni is the eighth instalment in the Tracy Crosswhite series. However, it reads well as a standalone, filling the reader in on her past as the story develops. Tracy is a detective with the Seattle police department and has been put in charge of cold cases, an assignment she does not welcome gladly. When asked by her former partner to help with the disappearance of a young female jogger, she takes on that job as well. The woman was last seen on a forest trail. Tracy is also investigating the disappearance of a child who has not been seen for five years. Her parents were involved in a messy divorce and both are considered suspects. This police procedural deals with two completely different cases, which makes In Her Tracks a challenging and suspenseful read. The series portrays the ups and downs of police work, highlighting the dedication of detectives working difficult cases while trying to maintain a private life. Hopefully there will be more instalments by Robert Dugoni. Highly recommended. Thank you to Thomas & Mercer, NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars
I love Tracy Crosswhite books - she's a strong protagonist and her struggles with motherhood and the job are so authentic. I really appreciate Dugoni's experience or research into this area. I admit that I was "gotcha"ed by a couple of the twists that kept me reading nonstop. I would have liked more about Bibby's wife and another scene or two with or about Maria - and Faz too because they're like family - simply because parts felt unfinished and honestly after Faz and his wife having such an important role in A Cold Trail, I missed them. I already am looking forward to the next one in this series! Thanks so much to #Netgalley for the opportunity to preview #InHerTracks by Robert Dugoni. It was a fast paced, enjoyable read.

This was my first Tracy Crosswhite book and I ended up buying the first 3 books right after finishing! This was the seventh in the series and while it wasn’t necessary to read them in order, there are references to past events. I enjoyed the books and want to read about what happened from the beginning.
In this installment Tracy is just coming back to work in Violent Crimes at the Seattle PD after being on maternity leave. Unfortunately, her spot on the A-Team has been filled and she’s given the opportunity to work the Cold Case unit instead. Tracy’s worked that this work will hit a little too close to home because of everything she’s been through since the disappearance and murder of her sister. However, she “gives a shit” about these forgotten victims and is pulled to bring them justice.
She starts with the case of a missing girl from 5 years ago, as well as two missing prostitutes from a few months ago. Both cases were left behind by the same detectives after transfers and there’s definitely some unfinished business in both. When Kin’s asks her to help working another missing woman case, Tracy jumps at the opportunity. This woman isn’t a prostitute, but she was taken in almost the same area as the two and Tracy has a hunch they may be connected.
I enjoyed all three cases, with the two being woven together. There were twists and turns that I didn’t see coming including an unsuspecting bad guy. There really weren’t any slow parts with all three cases going simultaneously so I didn’t find myself losing interest. I liked Tracy as a lot, and also liked the multiple points of view from others involved in the case including one of the victims.
This was an enjoyable and solid thriller and I’ll definitely be picking up the rest of the books in the series!

A real page turner. This book is set up just right from start to finish, it pulls you along with each page turned. This author is very fine story teller who knows how to keep your interest. A great read.

The latest in the Tracy Crosswhite series has Tracy returning to work after her maternity leave (and also after a mentally challenging case in the previous book). Another female detective has taken her place with the team, and Tracy is assigned to cold cases. She's not happy about it, but decides to give it a try. One of her cases puts her back in the middle of a new case with her former partner, Kins. As usual, this is a fast-paced detective story with good characters. At times, it becomes a bit gruesome, but always seems to divert before going into too much detail. So, I was able to stick with it, but found the book a bit too much like the previous books in this series and also a bit too predictable, so I'm not giving it a full five stars. I think I prefer the legal/spy thrillers Dugoni writes over this series. And, that's weird, because I usually prefer female protagonists.

I became familiar with the Tracy Crosswhite series when looking for books with audio on Kindle Unlimited – there are plenty of books available, not so many with audio, and fewer still that have audio and are actually decent. When I discovered them, there were only five and looking back at Goodreads, I listened to all five in one week and then waited six months to read the next release.

When I saw In Her Tracks on NetGalley, it was on those ‘auto-request’ moments, when I didn’t bother to read the description – I knew it was a book I wanted to read and would enjoy. Then I realised it was number eight and had to go back and listen to number 7 quickly!

In Her Tracks concerns Seattle PD Detective Tracy Crosswhite’s return from extended leave and move into Cold Cases. She starts investigating the cases of a missing five-year-old girl and notices that two missing women might be related to a new case.

I’ve rated all the series 4 or 5 stars and this instalment is no exception. They’re straight forward police procedurals and pure escapism. They’re quick, easy, satisfying reads that don’t leave even a jaded reader like me screaming: ‘Come on!’

What elevates them from other books in the genre? Tracy had a solid origin story, which is told in the first book; she also has a life outside of being a detective, which develops the character and makes her more interesting. In fact, all the characters are well-drawn and have individual voices – they’re not just interchangeable supporting figures.

These stories are well-plotted too. The detectives usually have more than one case, or something happening in their personal lives, so it doesn’t get too repetitive, boring the reader. I’m not often surprised by a plot twist – I often think I’ve read it all by this point – but this book actually made me gasp!

My only complaints from In Her Tracks: as Tracy is currently in Cold Cases there wasn’t enough Del and Faz, her A Team colleagues, and a line of dialogue that had me shaking my head:

‘A panic attack?’ Tracy was not familiar with the term. ‘What’s a panic attack?’

She’s a brilliant detective! What? They don’t have them in Seattle?

All in all, this is a really enjoyable series and this one comes in at a touch under 5 stars – I’ll round it up!

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer.

I really do love the Tracy Crosswhite series and have always been captivated by Dugoni's storylines from page 1. He has a way of making intense crimes seem like they're happening in real-time yet still be easily readable. I have enjoyed all of his books, and this was no different.

Seattle Detective Tracy Crosswhite has been re-assigned to the cold case unit. The first case she wants to follow is the abduction of a 5-year-old girl. The girl's parents were involved in a contentious divorce and at the time of the disappearance, the parents were prime suspects.

While she starts her investigation of this cold case, she is brought into an active investigation with her former partner, Kinsington Rowe. While jogging, the woman disappeared along a well-known jogging trail. No clues to what happened, but Tracy discovers the woman and her husband have been talking divorce. The husband, as what's norm in these kinds of case, is the prime suspect.

Book Blurb: To find two missing persons, Tracy will have to follow more than clues, which are both long cold and unsettling fresh. Given her own traumatic past, Tracy must also follow her instincts—to whatever dark and dangerous places they may lead.

As with all books in this series, it is well-written with a clever plot. Suspense starts at the first and maintains a high level throughout. The characters are solidly drawn and Tracy makes a superb series focus. The conclusion is explosive and unexpected. Although 8th in the series, this is easily read a stand-alone. I do recommend reading in order, though, to see how much Tracy has grown and changed along her adventures.

Many thanks to the author / Thomas & Mercer / Amazon Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction/mystery. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Having read the first seven in the Tracy Crosswhite series there was no way I intended to miss out on In Her Tracks the latest instalment by Robert Dugoni. This man is a versatile author and I've now enjoyed all eight of this police procedural series and a variety of books he's written in other genres too. The thing I usually like most about the Tracy Crosswhite series is being reacquainted with the characters - her husband Dan and colleagues Kins, Faz and Del. This time around they were still part of the story but somehow I felt they played a lesser role, slightly disappointing me but not enough to detract from my overall enjoyment.

Upon her return from maternity leave Tracy learns she is not being placed back into her old role in the Violent Crimes A Team, the team she's worked in for over a decade. Naturally she's disgruntled about this but she doesn't want to give her nemesis, Captain Nolasco, the satsfaction of being pushed out the door (or retiring before her time). So quite unexpectedly Tracy agrees to take on the Cold Cases unit, justifying this decision with the idea that she will have some autonomy in this role and will be able to work more family friendly hours. I'm not sure that really panned out for her as her characteristic passion and dedication to the cause of res9lving cases was again on display.

Tracy started with the cold case of a missing five year old and picked up one or two other cold cases of women who'd gone missing in a similar area, none of whom had ever been found. Though he already has a new partner, Kins asks Tracy to assist with a new Violent Crimes case he's just started investigating. Nolasco tries to put a stop to this but Tracy finds possible links between some of the old cases and the new. As always I was fully engaged in the story and, also as always, Dugoni caught me with his twists. I wouldn't say this was my favourite in the series but I will still be lining up for the next one. I assume there will be a next one and I'm guessing book nine will introduce new colleagues into Tracy's cold case investigations. (Mind you I havent been too good at predicting what Dugoni will do with his characters - not a terrible thing - as it always keeps me guessing and keeps me interested).

My thanks to Robert Dugoni, Thomas and Mercer and Netgalley for the opportunity of reading this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review which it was my pleasure to provide.

What do you do when you return to a job you love to find out you no longer have that job? In the latest installment Tracy Crosswhite is caught in the middle of that familiar quandary - you know the one about the scorpion and the frog and the river that needs to be crossed. The moral of that story is the creature who needs to hurt even when it is to their detriment. Her superior dislikes her that much that he will sacrifice one of his best detectives to a job hoping she will fail or at the very least quit and walk away. Not a chance. As she finds herself in what might appear to be a dead end job she also catches a case in real time with her former partner.

As with all of Dugoni’s crime stories there is action, intertwined plots and narratives, and a million clues and players to be checked out. With each of the books in the Tracy Crosswhite series Dugoni develops the plot intricacies to fit the maturation of the character. She is evaluating the situations more clearly, better assessing her reactions, losing some of the brashness but none of her determination to solve and close out the crime. Another great book in the series.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for a copy.
