One of the best of the series. Tracy tackles a new position in the department. Then she is drawn into another case, teaming up with her old partner. There are several cases in this one. While the bad guy is revealed early, don't think that's the end of it. The shocks keep coming and the suspense is high. When the big reveals hit I was stunned. I love how this author weaves together plots and characters. It makes for an action packed, gripping book you can't put down!

I really like Robert Dugoni’s books, especially the Tracy Crosswhite series; this is the eighth, I have read all of them. The character development is so good that it is not necessary to have read the prior ones, although they would give more background on some of the characters.
This is a strong, cohesive story; an engrossing and fast read. Despite having a painful personal history, Crosswhite is a capable, smart, fully functioning protagonist.
This is a great series and the latest is a real treat for Dugoni fans.

Wow- this is book 8 in the Tracy Crosswhite series and I never grow tired of reading about each case she investigates. This is by far one of my favorite crime series and I look forward to more from Robert Dugoni.
In this book Tracy has returned from maternity leave and is assigned to cover cold cases since her position on the Violent Crimes team was given to another female detective. Tracy is unsure if she wants to tackle cold cases or if she will be able to handle not ever finding answers for these families that have been waiting for years. In the end she decides to take the position and make the most of it, but she never anticipated that two cold cases would lead her to an active missing persons case and the men responsible for all three of these missing young women.
Tracy is a badass and I thoroughly enjoyed watching her connect the pieces and nail these monsters. There was also a huge twist in this book that had me completely speechless-didn’t see it coming at all. If you’re looking for a brilliant series to pick up- this is the one. Thank you Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for this advance reading copy. This book will be available 4/20/21 but please start with book one and work your way through these amazing books.

I've enjoyed and recommended every book that Robert Dugoni has published -- this series, the David Sloane legal thrillers, the Charles Jenkins espionage books, and the standalones. I'd be hard put to say whether the characters or the plots take precedence, because both are so well-done -- as is the dialogue, which never drags or dominates the page.
It was the dialogue, however, that stopped me from giving this book a 5-star rating. There is one character whose speech is so inconsistent as to be a major distraction. He's one of three poorly-educated brothers, perhaps the brightest of the trio, but his statements ranged from "No, you ain't" to "Well the circumstance we are currently in would be serious evidence the contrary." There are multiple examples of each level. I thought perhaps it was to indicate his chameleon-like nature, but on checking, found dozens of such examples when he was addressing the same person.
I know this is nit-picky, but it's a lapse from Dugoni's usual high standards. Otherwise, the story was excellent, with a tricky balance between characters' familiarity and their personal growth. Loved Tracy's foray into cold cases.
Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance readers copy.

Dugoni captured me with the intricate weaving of cases within this story. A plethora of details that intertwine beautifully which allow you to sink in and enjoy. The story flows perfectly as we follow along trying to solve the crimes too. He does not shy away from the tough topics either!
While some things are obvious, as we know who some of the perpetrators are, Dugoni manages to throw in several surprises that really catch you. I love when that happens! Major 180’s in the plot keeps you on the edge waiting for the climax and it was sooo worth it! Love the zingers and dry humor buried in the story as well!
A fabulous intro for me to a new series and definitely an author I will be watching. A compulsive and captivating novel!

In Her Tracks is the eighth full length novel in this series, it's the first I've read. I connected with the main character, Tracy Crosswhite, right away. She is a loving wife and mother, and an intelligent, skilled detective. I quickly became engaged in the book’s interesting plot. After an extended maternity leave from the Seattle Police Department, Tracy's unpleasant captain tries to punish her by assigning her to cold cases. He is hoping this move to a less prestigious assignment will drive Tracy to quit. However, Tracy surprises him and herself when she discovers she is enjoying the new assignment. She puts her all into the investigations, hoping to find closure for family members of missing persons. She also assists on a current, open case with her former team members in the Violent Crimes Division. I enjoy the interactions that Tracy has with her old team and am sure earlier books with them all working together were excellent.
A couple of the suspects seem obvious since they reminded me of creepy villains right out of an episode of the television show “Criminal Minds”. However, not everything in this book is like it first appears. The story takes a couple of twists that really surprised me. The author avoids having the cliched situation of the main character rushing into danger without telling anyone what she’s doing. Tracy does face danger, but keeps her team informed. The book also gives satisfying endings to the various cases Tracy works on without offering pat solutions. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style. I loved the book and hope to read more by Dugoni.
I received this ebook from NetGalley through the courtesy of Thomas & Mercer. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Another five star book written by Robert Dugoni. In Her Tracks is the 8th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series and I can't wait for the next book to arrive. Since I moved to Seattle, this book helped me exlpore the different cities and places around Downtown Seattle and the Greater Seattle Area. Besides the reason that I wanted to learn more about the location, Dugoni's police procedural and sense of humor are what hooked me to reading the series.
I took a one week vacation to Peoria, Arizona for my birthday when I got an email granting my wish to access the advance digital copy. My laptop broke a month ago so most of my reviews are done typing using my smartphone. Once I get a new laptop, I can start posting on my website and all other review sites such as Amazon and B&N.
I will admit I'm biased with the review because I already like the previous series. Which means, I know what I'm getting in this book. I like Dugoni's writing style. If you wanted to read a mystery and thriller that will not leave you traumatized, read this series! With everything that we've been through last year, I can't read anything too heavy and this is just right for those who wanted to read a good detective mystery without getting stressed out in the process. As you can guess, what I liked most about the book is the subtle sense of humor.
Highly recommended for mystery and thriller, if you wanted a story set in Seattle and its neighboring area, a strong female character, and a clear and descriptive writing that will keep your interest until the end.
Many thanks to Netgalley, publisher Thomas & Mercer, and author Robert Dugoni for granting my wish. I consider this my birthday gift. All reviews are honest, voluntary, and my own.

Tracy Crosswhite does it again. If you’ve read the prior books, you’ll see how mature Tracy has become since getting married and have a baby. She moves to a new department within the police station and I can’t wait to read more about her experience with cold cases. Plus she’ll always have the guys with her. Kins, Faz, and Del - hopefully there are more stories with them. Great read!

The first book I have read by Robert Dugoni and it certainly won't be the last.
I was a little hesitant to read as I believe it is the eighth book in the series but I was pleased to find there was plenty of background to ensure this was excellent as a standalone.
Tracey Crosswhite is a detective, returning to work after the birth of her daughter and extended leave to recover from a taxing past. She is thrown into the job of solving cold cases by her difficult superior.
This book follows two cases, a missing child and a missing woman. The two running alongside each other and cross over into Tracey's life simultaneously.
I thoroughly enjoyed this straightforward police procedureal novel. It had a little of everything, pieces of puzzles to put together, suspense, plenty of tension and you genuinely warm to Tracey in her own struggles.
The clever switching between cases leaves you hanging each time wanting to know how it will unfold whilst throwing you back into the other. It kept me engaged and wanting to read on.
I'll definitely seek out the previous books in the series as this was an addictive read and just up my street.
Thankyou to netgalley, Thomas and Mercer and Robert Dugoni for the copy.

Tracey Crosswhite is back at it! Her boss is throwing hurtles every chance he can get and this time is means she’s been replaced on A team and told she’s on cold cases or nothing. She has reservations but takes that challenge in true Crosswhite fashion is determined to solve these crimes!
I loved that she was working multiple cases and worked her way to an active investigation with her partner. I really enjoy that fact that mental health and talk therapy was shown in a positive light and encouraged. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the use of the “R” word to describe a person with diminished mental capacity. So many other ways it could have been done.
Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for my review copy.

Robert Dugoni’s In Her Tracks is the latest installment in the Seattle police detective Tracy Crosswhite series. Having returned to her precinct from her maternity leave, she is assigned to work on “cold cases,” which appears to be a 9 to 5 job that might suit her status as a new mother. However, she is immediately plunged into a world of unsavory, despicable characters when her former partner asks for her assistance on a new case.
The writing is intelligent and the manner of obtaining and acting upon clues is astounding. The twists and turns are extraordinary as well as unexpected. We know that Tracy and her partner will solve the cases and I was surprised and unprepared to devote an entire day to finish reading this novel.
I highly recommend this book for all fans of thrillers and for those who do not mind missing a night of sleep.

Upon returning from an extended leave, Seattle Police Detective Tracy Crosswhite learns that her former position in the Violent Crimes division has been filled, and her vindictive captain instead offers her a position handling cold cases, which she begrudgingly accepts.
Tracy starts by reviewing the three cases that the previous cold case detective had been in the middle of re-examining: one involving the disappearance of a police officer’s 5-year old daughter, and two others thought to be connected, as they involve the disappearance of sex workers from the same area. Then, her former colleagues get inundated with work, and Tracy’s former partner, Kins, asks for her help in a new case involving the disappearance of a 19-year old woman.
The plot is primarily focused on this new, active case, but Tracy continues to work her cold cases, and the author smoothly transitions chapters from one case to another, from one POV to another. The coincidental connections seemed improbable considering the sheer number of cold cases that must exist in a metropolitan area, and I correctly identified the culprit in the child’s disappearance, but the author still had other twists and unexpected surprises in store. Overall, I tore through this quick and easy read in one day, and can attest that this series remains a reliable source of escape and entertainment that I look forward to with each new installment.
NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer kindly provided me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book felt like a plot I've read before - woman goes missing, husband suspected, and there are secrets in a neighborhood that no one would suspect.
I needed more from Detective Tracy Crosswhite. More than digging up her own past or the past of the cold case she's trying to solve. Overall, it just fell short and I found myself putting the book down.

In Her Tracks is the eighth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I believe you can read this as a stand-alone and not be lost.
There is a lot going on in this book with multiple investigations. It's great that Tracy is working cold cases and an active case simultaneously. There are plenty of suspects and red herrings in this story which really gripped me as it twisted and turned its way to a very climatic conclusion.
I loved this book and highly recommend this whole series.
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Robert Dugoni for a copy of "In Her Tracks" in exchange of an honest review.

Family is the central theme in In Her Tracks, Robert Dugoni’s eighth volume in the popular Tracy Crosswhite series. Tracy, Dan, and their baby daughter Daniela have a wonderful, loving family. Both parents work; Dan is an attorney, while Tracy is a police detective just returning from an extended leave from Seattle Police Department. With the help of an extremely capable person to care for their daughter, their family is a happy, cohesive unit.
Other families featured in this story are not so well put together. On a scale of A-to-F, a couple of them rate at least a D, as in Dysfunctional. Or maybe an F, as in Fatally Flawed.
When Tracy returns to work, she expects to return to her team, the Violent Crimes Unit. Her superior officer, Captain Johnny Nolasco, has another idea. Since there is not an open spot on the team at present and the detective running the cold case unit is retiring, that job has Crosswhite’s name on it – take it or leave it. Since she and Nolasco have a history of, shall we say, bad blood, between them, Tracy considers resigning but doesn’t want to give Nolasco the satisfaction. Besides, she likes her job and cares deeply about her work.
The first case she chooses is the five-year-old case of a missing child. The parents were embroiled in a fierce divorce battle, and each pointed the finger at the other. Just as Tracy begins backtracking on the same ground SPD detectives had covered previously, her former partner Kinsington Rowe asks her for help with a missing woman case. This young woman disappeared while out jogging on a dead-end trail. Before long, this investigation becomes the center of Tracy’s focus, although she continues to review paperwork and interview subjects from the cold case as well.
The new missing young woman case introduces us to yet another very mucked up family. Three brothers live together in the home where they grew up. Franklin, oldest brother is somewhere in his late 40s and is the boss of the other two. The middle brother, Carroll, is a stutterer and doesn’t question much of anything his older brother tells him. Evan is the youngest; his brothers and those who know him call him “slow.” Unlike his brothers, Evan does not hold regular employment, but does jobs like mowing lawns in the neighborhood. My initial sense about this family was, “Ewww!” Dugoni does a terrific job describing the home and creating these personalities. Everything about these guys felt “yucky,” yet I wondered if they were really responsible. There were no other suspects, were there?
On top of these heart-wrenching disappearances, Tracy must somehow put aside her own personal feelings that inevitably creep into her mind, the reminders of her sister’s disappearance years ago and the aftermath of that time. Rather than run from her past, she must find a way to use her experience, her pain and grief to find a way to show compassion and strength for victims and their families.
As I read this story, much of it felt predictable. But...BUT! Robert Dugoni! You had a trick or two up your sleeve, you sneaky guy, you! And kudos for the wonderful forensics/crime scene information. That was fascinating!
As always, Dugoni does not disappoint. As much as I love Tracy, I think it would be really fun to read a book in which Dan is the protagonist. He seems like such a good guy, and I’d like to know him better. Maybe he and Tracy could team up to work on a case? As with many series, it would be really helpful for readers to read the books in order to fully understand the characters, particularly Tracy Crosswhite.
My thanks to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and the author for this ARC copy of In Her Tracks .
4 stars

How is it some books draw you in immediately? I wish I knew the answer, but I do know that's how I felt reading Robert Dugoni's newest entry in the Tracy Crosswhite series. And no, I haven't read any of his work before.
After a leave of absence, Seattle Detective Tracy Crosswhite has been unexpectedly and unfairly assigned to Cold Cases. Reluctantly she accepts the challenge. Two disappearances attract her attention: one is a little girl who disappeared without a trace five years earlier; and one is a young woman who has just been abducted while jogging in a park. The second is not her case to solve but Tracy suspects it may have ties to another cold case in the files.
Discovering Robert Dugoni was a delightful surprise! Even though this is the eighth book in the series, there was never a moment where I felt I was missing anything. The author's taut control of the story through careful plotting, well-drawn characters, and an interesting intersection of two 'crimes', keeps the reader turning pages.
Tracy Crosswhite is succeeding in a difficult and demanding line of work, but she also has to deal with personal issues including having an infant at home. I liked that Tracy had a therapist to help her deal with her feelings and past traumas. I also thought it was important that the reader got to see the lives of the perpetrators of the crime. Sometimes I have trouble keeping characters straight, but not here. Through descriptions of unique characteristics, speech patterns, and other details, these characters come to life.
Getting a look at the issues that affect detectives procedurally, as they try to solve cases, is fascinating as well. Bit by bit they find the pieces that together will solve the puzzle.
BOTTOM LINE: Definitely can be read as a standalone, but if you find you love Tracy, start at the beginning! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
DISCLAIMER: A copy of was provided to me by Thomas & Mercer/Net Galley for an honest review.

I loved this latest story in the Tracy Crosswhite series. Detective Tracy Crosswhite is back to work after taking some time off after her last case. A change in assignment has led her to looking at cold cases, but that doesn’t stop her from lending a hand to her team when a girl goes missing. This was one of my favorites in this series. I highly recommend this book along with every other book Dugoni has written. Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read an early copy of this book.

Another awesome book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. So glad Tracy has Dan in her life to help keep her balanced. So many great repeat characters and Walsh is one of my favorites. Looking forward to the next book. Thanks to the publishers Thomas and Mercer for the advanced copy.

Detective Tracy Crosswhite is back in Seattle after an extended stay in her childhood hometown of Cedar Grove and ready to head back into work. However things have changed and she finds her future is to be running the cold case unit alone!
Getting straight to work reading through the files left by the former officer in charge Tracy is drawn to an unsolved missing child case just as her former partner asks for help on a suspected abduction. As she sifts through clues in both investigations Tracy is faced with dead ends and untruths which take time she doesn't have to unravel. With the weather worsening and office politics hindering her progress she has to wonder if either case will have a successful outcome.
Tracy Crosswhite is a relatable, likeable main protagonist who has matured and grown throughout this extremely popular and satisfying series. There is a comprehension of the problems Tracy has had and is now experiencing which show an understanding from the author of the differing effects of trauma on those who suffer life changing events. However chilling the crimes, and these are definitely that, the way the book reads is, as usual, sympathetic from the get go.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is an excellent read which will leave you feeling a little better about the world we live in.

Tracy is back to work after her time off. She is given the cold cases to do. Then Kins's new partner is stuck in court so she helps him. A jogger has gone missing. The suspects are three brothers who live near the park. There are also two hookers in the cold case files who are still missing from the same area. Can they be related? Tracy is also working a cold case where a little girl went missing. Tracy does the fine work she is known for as she works these cases.
