This book is absolutely perfect for fans of the Percy Jackson series that have grown up a bit! It was fun to delve back into the world of Greek Mythology, and I think that Bracken went about it in a really interesting way. This book was absolutely brutal, and I loved it! I like that Bracken was unafraid to go there with a YA novel. The fast pacing made me unable to put this book down until I was finished, and the characters were just interesting enough to keep me intrigued. I do think Lore could have benefitted from exploring its characters a bit more because I wasn't totally invested in them, but that did not bother me as much as it could have. All in all, I found Lore to be an interesting read, and I can't recommend it enough to those who enjoy mythology retellings!

LORE was nothing I expected, but everything I didn’t know I needed! I loved Alexandra Bracken’s writing, and the story itself was so original and intriguing for the entire length of the book. I’ll definitely look into her other novels!

This book was amazing. I couldn't put it down. If you love mythology then this is the book for you. It brings mythology to the the present day with twists and turns you won't see coming. Alexandra Bracken did an amazing job with this one. Easy young adult novel to read. The ending is well constructed and doesn't end in a cliffhanger. Lore, is an easy-to-root for heroine - she's strong, feisty and works through her flaws as well. Even if you're not super into Greek mythology this is a book you won't be able to put down.

Loved seeing a book based on mythology coming out and I'm looking forward to trying it again, but unfortunately, for my first go around, it just didn't hold my attention. I'm hoping it was my mood more than it is the writing. So far, I'm enjoying the world building and how it is all set up and the characters are definitely intriguing.

Now to start off my review like I always do with a huge thank you to the publisher Hyperion-Disney Publishing Worldwide ,the author Alexandra Bracken , and to NetGalley as well as a think once again to Taylor for picking it and for making me finally reading , since she's been telling me to pick it up ever since I told her I had it from NetGalley and still hadn't read it lol. And here's the thing I don't know why it took me this long to read it has everything in that I love which is :

!; Young Adult

2:Greek Mythology

3:Urban Fantasy - one of my go to genres when I want to get lost in a story

4:Romance

And the cover is beautiful which is what made me request it as soon as I saw it. The only 2 things I can thing up for not waiting to pick it is I wasn't in the mood for it at the time and 2nd it also be that while I liked her book The Darkest Minds it took me a while to get into the story , while with this one just after starting it and read like 5 to 6 pages I was hooked , and as soon as I message Taylor that , in my mind I could see her doing a happy dance . As for the story I loved it , I loved how she wrote the story line , how she set up her world so that it was easy to fellow and just get lost in , and the characters were well written, and my absolute favorite was Lore , how she was there for friends no matter what, her love for her family , and her love for her family's history .

Lore is a wonderful story written in present day New York with legends, Gods, and heroes from ancient mythology.

The main character, Lore, is sometimes a little too much for even herself and really doesn't know what she wants even while saying that she does. I really like the development and growth that she shows during the progression through the story. It also gives an air of uncertainty with where the story will go and what she will do next.

The love and friendship between lore and many of the other characters in this book reflects real life relationships and the hardships that sometimes come from real life events and lapses in morel. I really like that the dynamics are shown throughout the book of how true friends exhibit behaviors of forgiveness and guilt.

I really enjoyed the story in this YA fantasy and I would enjoy a sequel if that is what Alexandra has planned.

Lore is brimming with a thrilling take on Greek mythology that many know and love. Following our protagonist, Lore, readers are entrenched in the messiness and brutality of the gods and those meant to hunt them and their descendants down. It is a fast-paced whirlwind of action, mythology and world-building, Lore is hard to put down!

Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for providing me with an e-arc!

Lore was absolutely amazing, and I loved every second of it. The worldbuilding felt very fresh despite the abundance of greek mythology retellings in the market and the premise pulled me in from the start. The characters were well written, and my absolute favorite was Lore, she's completely badass. I'm sad that this is a standalone, but I look forward to whatever the author will be writing next!

The Hunger Games meets The Illiad in this world where Greek gods take forms of human bodies or are reborn within mortal bodies as new gods (if a "hunter" or Agon participant is able to murder a god) and ravage modern cities in a combat to the death. Lore does not want to be a part of the Agon. After the brutal death of her entire family, she does not want to be in the world of Greek gods and hunters. But it is inevitable and she is pulled into the Agon by Castor, who she has not seen in 7 years, by Athena, who shows up bloody on her front porch, and now with the promise to defeat the god who murdered her entire family.

The concept was really interesting in an imagining of Greek gods in a mortal world--especially with all the shenanigans the gods would be up to in the legends. Told in third-person from Lore's perspective, original gods and new gods battle for the aegis, which everyone believes is in Lore's possession. It's a rag-tag group of a reluctant hero, Lore, her mortal bff, Van, a new god, Castor, Castor's messenger, and an original god, Athena, as they race around NYC fighting and fleeing from Artemis and Wrath. They don't know who to trust, or even if they can trust each other.

Now, writing action and fight scenes is difficult and Bracken met the challenge with some success. There were still some points where I couldn't fully imagine the physical combatting. The twists (and untwists...?) were somewhat predictable to the point where I didn't care about fatal wounds. The love interests--Lore & Castor - Iro & Van--was also predictable, which made me try to find the ~why~ behind their attraction and I just...couldn't. For the length of this book, there were many points that could have been better developed, but rather we get a lot of similar scenes, dialogue, and action sequences...to the point where I felt I was experiencing deja vu. A few 100 pages could have been cut out or replaced with more fleshed-out character development. A good book for Greek mythology/hero/adventure fans.

This is truly The Hunger Games + Percy Jackson, and I would recommend it for older teen readers due to the violence and mature content. Lore seems like a normal young woman, but she's actually an outcast from an ancient competition that pits descendants of greek heroes against gods. There's a romance between Lore and her childhood friend who mysteriously has assumed the power of the god Apollo, and a quest to find a mysterious ancient artifact. I struggled with the violence in this book, but I could see the appeal for some older teen readers.

Bracken has done it again. Blending Greek Mythology with present day reality. Developing her characters while keeping the action moving. You'll love, hate, get frustrated, with Lore and Van, Castor and Mile's for starters. You'll be on the edge of your seat one minute and wanting to scream in frustration the next. A wild ride worth the stomach drops.

Lore is an action packed mythological adventure in a modern setting. The main character, Lore, gets caught up in a competition she thought she could leave behind. It was exciting from start to finish and rich in visual details. One thing that would have benefitted the book is more explicit details about the competition itself. Overall, though, it was a fun and unique book.

Fans of Rick Riot fan’s Percy Jackson series will love this book. Melora, a mortal, is involved with a battle between gods.

I am a huge fan of Alexandra Bracken. The Darkest Minds trilogy is one of my favorite series and everything else she wrote after that I loved. When I saw she was coming out with a book about mythology I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and when I saw it on NetGalley I hoped and prayed I could get approved for it, and I did! I was not disappointed. And y’all, the cover is beautiful.

Description
Lore runs away from her life with the gods after her family was slaughtered and she had no one else. She ends up in New York where she participates in sanctioned fights for money and lives with her friend Miles. Lore finds out the Agon, where the Greek gods become mortal, can be killed, and the murderer gets all their powers, will be held in New York. People she hasn’t seen in ages are back and drawing her back into the life she left. For her to be completely done with the god life forever she will have to take part in the Agon.

Thoughts
This book was intense and full of action. I had a hard time putting it down to get real-life things done. Bracken does such a great job merging our world with mythology. Her writing immerses you in the world she’s created.

I loved all the characters even the evil ones. Bracken writes characters that you love and can relate to so flawlessly. The twists and turns in this book really surprised me and caught me off guard. I can usually figure out what is about to happen, but this one threw me for a loop. I had all kinds of theories for why certain things were occurring, but of course, I was pretty much wrong about them all. This book will keep you on your toes for real. I’m so sad that this is a stand-alone. I would have loved to read a second book about these characters and this world.

Character Love
Lore- I loved Lore. She never once got on my nerves, as most mc’s do, and she was such a relatable character.

Miles- Miles was the perfect friend for Lore. There was no way to not like him. I loved that he stayed by Lore’s side and was super helpful.

Castor- I wasn’t too sure about Castor in the beginning, but it didn’t last long. There were a few times I wasn’t sure if he was trustworthy.

Van- I was not a fan of Van at first, but he definitely grew on me.

Iro- I really liked Iro a lot. I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of her though.

Conclusion
If you haven’t already read this book you should go out and get it asap. I read about half of the book and then listened to the rest. The audiobook was really good and the narrator did a great job portraying each character’s personality.

I absolutely loved this book and was so excited to read it! It has been on my TBR for some time and didn't disappoint! I adored everything about it and am so very excited to read more by this author. I strongly recommend this to anyone who love mythology!

I really just couldn't get into this book. It's really chonky, which is fine if it is engaging but I found the style very complicated and it was hard off the bat to keep characters straight and understand the complicated modern world-building but with mythology. It's an interesting idea but I found it overly complicated.

Officially DNFing this one. I was really looking forward to this one but it just wasn't working for me. I really like Greek mythology but I think the mixture of that with modern times and a gladiator type setting just was too much. Many people out there seem to really have loved this book though so I'm in the minority and that's fine with me.

This had the potential to be great but was filled with violence and made me uncomfortable. I`m all for blood and guts but rape and pedophilia crosses the line.
I gave 3 stars because I did enjoy the premise of a Medusa retelling as well as the characters. I just think the plot was a little too much.

A fast-paced, original story that kept me turning the page! The world-building alone was immaculate, and then that twist! It has a Hunger Games vibe that was felt sort of nostalgic to read; I enjoyed that aspect. As a longtime fan of Greek mythology, that element was definitely my favorite part of the book. All in all, a very fun read!
