This was a riveting, important and uncomfortable book to read. It discusses the impact that multiple school shootings, and our society’s attempt to protect our children from them, has had on those very same children. It also provides insight into why our attempts to end this phenomenon have been ineffective so far, and provides suggestions as to what might be more effective.

I found it well-written and an easy read, but not an easy topic to contemplate. I believe this book should be required reading for anyone who has to make decisions about how to prepare children for a potential school shooting, anyone who has children who are experiencing these preparations and anyone who might encounter children so effected in the future.

Thank to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an advanced reading copy.

I can't say I enjoyed this book- it was heartbreaking. But as an educator, I'm so glad I read it and I think educators and non-educators should give this a read. I feel ready to try and make some actual change.
