What to Say Next by Sarah Nannery and Larry Nannery has a unique premise that I think would be useful to many people regardless of where they land on the Autism spectrum. Sarah, a professional woman with Asperger's, discusses how she has overcome a number of social challenges in order to succeed in a world that isn't necessarily set up for her. Meanwhile, her neurotypical husband Larry offers his two cents at the end of each chapter. What I liked about this book is that it is quite technical; it offers approaches and solutions to a number of real scenarios, plus plenty of examples. For casual readers, it provides an interesting glimpse into the mind of a neurodivergent individual. It will be released in May.

I received an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review. Long overdue book on a very important topic- how people with HFA can navigate things like the workplace, school pick up, Smalltalk, a lot of the things that aren’t brought up in books for people on the spectrum, but can still be very challenging for people on the higher end just trying to get through the day in a world that knows very little about autism and doesn’t provide resources for many. of us who are expected to live our lives to the same social standards as NTs in order to pay the bills and get by. I gave it four stars instead of five because the writing style is a bit dry, but, well…come with the territory

This book was a lot more detailed and technical than I was expecting, which didn’t really work for me in a practical way because it felt very overwhelming. But I can see it being a great resource for someone who does benefit from going through different scenarios with a close analytical lens. At the very least, it was helpful for me to read a book about what daily life and interactions can be like for a person who is on the Autism spectrum.
