A single mom / second chance lovers story with a firefighter as the male character. Sign me up! Kal and Hannah dated in high school but broke up as they were off to college. Fast forward ten years later and it’s time for their high school reunion. Kal and Hannah see each other for the first time and realize their relationship is far from over. They still have feelings for each other. Only hiccup- Hannah is nervous because she is trying find her independence again after getting divorced/becoming a single mom and moving back in with her own mother.

Let’s just say- Kal reminded me of Kelly Severide from Chicago Fire. And since I’m obsessed with Kelly (and Chicago Fire is my favorite show), it didn’t take long for me to be obsessed with Kal. Apparently this is the third book in a series but I haven’t read the first two. You can if you want but this can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

Love Jaci Burton and her vision of life and love. She takes a woman who had a tough marriage and divorce, saving grace for her is her son, and has her back at home trying to reinvent herself. She is starting a new business and has no time for romance.
Surprise, her old high school romance has another thing in mind.

I really enjoyed this book. I read the first two books in this trilogy last year so I was pretty excited to read Kal's story and it did not disappoint. This is the third book in the Brotherhood by Fire trilogy which I would recommend reading in order if at all possible since the couples from the previous book play roles in this story. I had a great time reading this second chance romance.

Kal and Hannah were high school sweethearts. They broke up when Kal left for college but they both really cared for each other. Kal went on to become a firefighter while Hannah got married and had a child. Hannah's marriage is over and she is back in town with her son. Both Kal and Hannah decide to go to their high school reunion and quickly find that the spark that they had is still there.

I loved Kal and Hannah and thought that they were perfect for each other. Kal was incredibly patient and willing to take things at Hannah's pace. I loved the way that he included Oliver, Hannah's son, in activities as often as possible. Hannah really wanted to rebuild her life and wasn't sure how a relationship would fit in but she couldn't seem to resist Kal. I loved the chemistry that they had with each other and I thought that their personalities really just seemed to fit.

I would recommend this book to others. It was really easy to fall for these characters as they fell for each other all over again. I definitely plan to read more of Jaci Burton's work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Berkley Publishing Group via NetGalley.

The third book in the Brotherhood by Fire Series is full of heat and love. Kal Donovan has transferred to the Tactical Rescue Team where he is determined to succeed. He attends his ten-year high school reunion when he reunites with his first love, Hannah Clark.

After a disastrous marriage Hannah has moved back home to raise her seven year son Oliver and getting her hair salon up and running. Her only interest right now is taking care of her son and getting the business started -- that is until she sees Kal again. The old sparks return with even more heat.

But as Hannah and Kal spend more time together Hannah starts feeling like she will make the mistake of depending on Kal and fall into the pitfalls she experienced in her marriage. But Kal shows Hannah what it feels like to be truly cared for if she will allow herself to accept it.

Kal & Hannah were high school sweethearts, but both of them were left broken-hearted when Kal ended things before leaving for college. They have both moved on. Now Kal is a specialized firefighter that works mainly doing difficult rescues. And, Hannah just recently moved back to town with her son, after her marriage fell apart. The two ran into each other at their Ten year high-school reunion and sparks flew. One night wasn’t enough to catch up and after a few meetings their chemistry only grew stronger. The two eventually start dating, but will Hannah’s fear of repeating mistakes of her past keep her from the future with a great man?

This was an okay read, but it came off a bit flat and one-dimensional. I liked Kal, but it’s one of those books where the male hero is just too perfect. He reacts to everything perfectly. He behaves perfectly with Oliver, Hannah’s son. He always says and does the perfect thing. I find when someone is too perfect in a book the character becomes unbelievable and frankly boring. I needed to see a wart or two, but it wasn’t there.

Hannah was okay as well … but she was a bit over-dramatic. The way she treated Kal because he wanted to get serious really made no sense. You had a bad relationship before, we get it. Not everybody is your ex, so it’s time to move on.

Of course we got to see the rest of the Donovan clan, who are also perfect! But as everyone was gathered for the last scene it felt like the end of the series. I know there are enough guys (and gals) in the fire department to give Burton something to write about, but this was the last Donovan brother. And, as we saw some time pass, it just felt like a conclusion. I guess we’ll see if that ends up being the case or not! Some of this author’s series are rather lengthy so it really could go either way!

This is the third book in the series, and I think you can read it as a standalone, although having the background to how the brothers grew up and how their life with the Donovans changed everything for them is worthwhile.

Kal has just transferred to the Tactical Rescue Team, and so we get some really hairy situations that they have to deal with – reminding us just how dangerous the life of a firefighter can be, and how it is not just fires which require their expertise and courage.

Hannah is very jaded about love, her ex-husband did a number on her confidence and she is just fine spending her time with her young son, Oliver. But at her ten-year high school reunion, she sees her first love, Kal. It is clear from the first moment that Kal is going to do everything he can to find what he felt before with her, but she is going to have to change a lot of her rules to believe in a happily ever after.

It is lovely watching her feel more comfortable with him and renewing her friendship with the rest of the family. Obviously, Oliver is a key part of the growing love in this pairing and Kal does not disappoint. The Donovan parents have every right to be proud of the boys that they raised – and are definitely enjoying the happy lives they now have with women who love and support them.

I have enjoyed all these stories, and the mix of excitement due to their careers and the risks which firefighting can bring, which impacts on them having good, secure, loving relationships.

This is the third book in the series and each is about a different brother. I do feel each can be read as a standalone, but then you would miss the back story on how the brothers grew up.

Kal has just joined the Tactical Rescue Team and wants to be part of the team, more like family in the way they work together. When he gets an invite to his high school reunion, he wonders if his high school girlfriend will be there. They split when he went off to college, but he never forgot her.

Hannah loved Kal in high school, but when he left for college she wasn't staying in town. She left, got married, and had a kid. Now she is back home and divorced. Seeing Kal at the reunion has stirred up those old feelings. She doesn't want to jump into another relationship. She wants to make it on her own for a while.

Can Kal make Hannah see that he loves her and wants what is best for her and her son? Will Hannah give Kal a chance to show her that his love is real? Will they get the happily ever after that started back in high school?

I really like this series and can't decide which brother I like best. Each one has their own strengths and a woman that will bring them to their knees. This story has all the feels that make it good. It will have you laughing one minute and ready to cry the next. If you are looking for firefighter brothers who love hard and fall in love harder, then this series is for you.

M/F Second-Chance Romance

Kal loves his job. Working in the Tactical Rescue Team is exciting and challenging. Despite his co-workers being buttheads, Kal enjoys this new environment. The dating scene is a little tiresome for him though. He wants what his brothers and dad have. He wants a family.

Hannah is home to pick up again and dust herself off. After a divorce, she knows that her son, Oliver, needs some stability. Living with her mom, while not ideal, is just what they both need.

When Hannah and Kal meet up again, their chemistry is just as powerful as it was when they were kids. Now, though, they have more life experience to help guide them. But old fears creep in, relationship insecurities fight to take center stage.

These two want to find their happily ever after, but can they over come their past? This is a sweet, second-chance romance. There isn’t a lot of angst and you’ll get a happy ever after, but the book is just a little flat. It’s an easy read, but nothing truly jumps out and happens. It’s predictable and calm.

I've tried several times to read All Consuming. I know I will love this Jaci Burton romance, but it just isn't connecting for me right now. Hopefully I'll be able to get through it in the future.

An enjoyable conclusion to the Brotherhood by Fire trilogy. Kal and Hannah used to date in high school and reconnect at their 10 year reunion. There were times that it didn't seem like they used to know each other at all and their courtship felt a little rushed but I still enjoyed this story. Even though each book in the series can be read as a stand alone, it was satisfying to follow the three brothers journey from bachelors to committed husbands.

3.75 Hearts Another great Jaci Burton book. This is the third in the series and while you do not need to read the other two books it does help to explain who Kal is.

Hannah and Kal have a past and this is their second chance at getting it right. This time Hannah has a son that is added to the mix. And, of course, the brotherhood is there to help Kal and Hannah come together as a family.

So I have liked Kal since the beginning. Kal just seems like a good all around guy. There are some characters that are written as the bad boy with a heart of gold. Not Kal. Kal is just an all around good guy who you want to be friends with because you know he will always be there for you.

Hannah is sweet and a good mom and daughter. I love the way that Kal was with Oliver.

Sweet read for any fan of the genre.

I've read the previous two books in the series about Jackson and Rafe and they were pleasant. All Consuming is Kal's book. This was a second chance romance between high school sweethearts, Kal and Hannah. It's been ten long years and their reconnection was nice. Kal was very sweet to Hannah and her son Oliver. You can tell from his point of view that she was the one that got away. He wanted to be all in but with Hannah's past, slow and steady wins the race. It was evident that they had deep feelings for each other so it was interesting to see how their love affair would play out. They were a fine couple and enjoyed their time together. I liked the relationship between the Donovan family with the addition of Becks (Jackson's fiancee) and Carmen (Rafe's fiancee). You could tell that the love ran deep. With how the brothers grew up, it was good to see that everything is working out for them. Overall, this was a pleasant story.

I seem to be reading a lot of second-chance romances lately and All Consuming is another good one. I enjoyed Kal and Hannah together. Their teenage relationship ended ten years ago and when they reunite at their high school reunion it's with no lingering guilt or hard feelings regarding the end of that young romance. They're adults now, with life experience under their belts, moving forward into a potential new relationship but with a foundation of friendship at its core. I enjoyed their banter, the spark of attraction between them, and the steam they generate when they finally act upon it. I especially enjoyed the fun they have together, in and out of the bedroom. There's such an ease between them that comes from that foundation of friendship. I also enjoyed the attention that was given to each of their careers, giving readers glimpses into their daily lives away from one another. I like learning new things and also gaining a more complete understanding of the individual characters.

Something Jaci Burton excels at is creating families I want to know better and there are some good ones in this book. It was fun to meet and get to know Hannah's young son, Oliver (I loved the relationship Kal forms with him), Hannah's mom (she's a hoot), and Kal's parents, his brothers, and their significant others. They all add an additional richness to the story. I hadn't read books one and two before beginning this one. All Consuming stands fine on its own but by the time I finished, I was so enamored with the Donovan family that I immediately downloaded both Hot to the Touch and Ignite on Contact.

If you enjoy heart-tugging, second-chance, contemporary romance with likeable characters, a bit of steam, feel-good fun, and smile-inducing happy endings, give this one a try.

All Consuming was the sweet, hot, low-tension romance that I really needed this week. Kal and Hannah were a couple in high school, but broke up when Kal left for college. They reconnect at their ten year school reunion, and find that not only is the spark still there, but that time and experience have made them better able to love each other in the ways they both need.

Independent single mom reunites with high school love…

This second chance romance had all the feels as the Donovans were officially back! Kal’s brothers had found love and meeting Hannah again at their high-school reunion seemed like fate. She was single again, with a super cute kid, looking to start over on her terms. Love wasn’t in the plan but than life is always about the unexpected…

Their story was steeped in family and tentative steps. Love was wonderful but what if it didn’t work? Or someone was scared to try? Or an ex was complicating things too much? Or a job was too dangerous? Well, you get the idea. While there were no crazy highs or lows, the problems they faced provided more than enough drama causing the temperature to percolate on simmer. There doesn’t always have to be huge gestures or wild twists to make love good and this even-tempered story showcased that perfectly…

With an epilogue providing the just ending with all the feels, my heart was more than happy…

Jaci Burton is a fairly new-to-me author, but I love reading new authors because you never know when you’ll stumble upon your next new favorite writer. This is the third book in her Brotherhood by Fire series. All of the books are marketed as stand-alone titles. I jumped into this series with this book, and had I not done my research, I never would have known it was a part of a series. There was just enough backstory with Kal’s brothers’ relationships that I wasn’t lost, but it was not a huge information dump, either.

Kal and Hannah were high school sweethearts that broke up when he headed off to college. Ten years later, they reunite at their high school reunion. Life has taken some interesting turns, but their feelings for each other haven’t really gone away. Hannah has significant trust issues, though.

I truly loved Kal’s character. He’s one of the good ones. He loves his job, his family, and is a loyal friend. He’s overcome a lot in his life, but he’s not let that hold him back. He used the lessons learned in the challenging years to push him to be a success. Now, he’s ready for the next steps: house, wife, family. I understood where Hannah was coming from, but after a while, I just got over being sympathetic. Kal was nothing but wonderful to her and always showing how dependable he was and how much he cared. The story arc also fell a little flat for me. Or maybe I’ve just been reading too much romantic suspense lately.

Despite feeling a bit let down with the story arc and my issues with Hannah, this was an entertaining read all in all. I will be adding both of the previous books in the series to my TBR and look forward to more from this author in the future. If you like second-chance romance with an all-around lovable hero, you’ll enjoy this book.

3.5 Stars!

I have read quite a few novels by Jaci Burton and all of them are entertaining. All Consuming, is the the third and final book from her Brotherhood by Fire series. Each novel can be read as a standalone.

This is the love story between Hannah Clark and Kal Donovan. Hannah and Kal were high school sweethearts and broke up when Kal left for college. Since they loved each other with all their might, both were truly upset when they broke-up. Now it is ten years later and they reconnect at their high school reunion. Hannah has returned home to start all over again after a terrible marriage. She is now working very hard to make a success of her recently purchased beauty salon, while raising her son Oliver with the help of her lovely mother. Kal is a firefighter and works for the local Tactical Rescue Team. He loves his job and rescuing people has become his calling. Kal and his two brothers lived on the streets until they were adopted into the warm-hearted, Donovan family. Overtime, Hannah and Kal rekindle the love they once shared.

I enjoyed this second chance at love romance. Hannah and Kal were easy to get to know and the secondary characters were very likable. Their sexy times were hot both in and out of the bedroom. Overall, a solid read.

This is the third book in this series but can stand alone. I have not read the first two books in this series. Kal comes from a family of firefighters. Now Kal is working in a different Dept from his dad and brothers. While dealing with problems with coworkers and adjusting to his new job he reunites with his high school girlfriend. Hannah hasn't seen Kal since he broke up with her before he left for college. Since then she married had a baby and divorced and now she's back home with a new business and making her way on her own. I really liked this book in the beginning. Kal and Hannah instantly reconnect and the chemistry is there. I loved how Kal just fits in wherever he goes. Always thinking about Hannah and her son Oliver but also anyone else in circle. Hannah struggles with trusting him and letting him help her. This comes from her ex-husband who was immature and untrustworthy. After while this got tiring and overdone. Overall I enjoyed the book about three quarters of the way through Hannah's mistrust just got to be to much. Kal did nothing to warrant it. Still wouldn't mind reading the first two books in this series.

A reconnection of high school sweethearts at their ten-year High school reunion and some personal growth lead to a HEA in Jaci Burton’s newest release, All Consuming.
This is a sweet story about a second-chance romance but this time around, all grown up. The thing about being an adult is there are always some life complications. But, love is patient. And Kal knows that Hannah is worth waiting for this time around.
Trigger warning: recollection and discussion of child homelessness, child abandonment, child abuse, and domestic abuse.

Sexy, sweet and satisfying! With the third and final book in her Brotherhood by Fire series Jaci Burton delivers a poignant second chance on love/reunion story for Kal. We get to see a good bit of Jackson and Rafe to catch up on their happily ever afters with Becks and Carmen and enjoy them all together again. I really enjoyed this series!

Kal is such a satisfying hero. He's sweet, he's sexy and he's got a backstory that makes you want to reach out and hug him. I enjoyed seeing him prosper in his new job and seeing him reconnect with his family is always enriching.

Hannah is a bit of a wayward character. She's been hurt more than once and doesn't know what she wants until she opens her eyes and suddenly sees it. She wasn't my favorite, but I ended up liking her.

I highly recommend this book as well as the series as a whole to anyone who loves a good firefighter romance with a strong supporting family and lots of emotional upheaval from their back stories.
