Ok so...where to start ?? I don't know but this book was SO good ! Like...I just loved it.

The characters were amazing and the plot line, and...everything ! This was such a great story to read.

I already can't wait for book 2 (and I really hope the wait is not gonna be long because...ugh.

Am I crazy ? A little bit, but it's Michael's fault !

This was such a unique story, and was really well written! The characters were developed so well, and there was the perfect amount of tension added to get you hooked into the story. Although the "meet cute" was very cliche, and the relationship between Micheal and Annie accelerated rather quickly, I'd say that it was overall still pretty well written.
Plus, the ending was really interesting/satisfying, even though it was somewhat a cliffhanger. It definitely makes you interested in the next book!

Michael Barrett had a family and then in a heartbeat, it was ripped away from him, years later he tried to pickpocket a woman and it turned out to be someone dangerous - the sister of a Mob Boss. Michael changed his surname to Adams and became his right-hand man. Now years later, Michael has had enough of the danger, the killing, and never knowing whether this will be his last day on earth. On a planned whim, he decides today is the day to leave and runs off with a bag of his boss's money. During the escape, he is shot but finds himself in a small diner in the middle of nowhere. At the Diner, he meets Annie - the diner was her grandfather's and then her mothers and now with both of them gone - it went to her evil stepfather. He treats Annie like Cinderella and she has been planning to save up and escape with her younger half-brother Jackson when she meets Michael. There is something about him, that draws her to him and soon the pair strike a friendship and in a way, they will both become each other's, guardian angels. With both of them wanting freedom and a new life, can they help each other to achieve their dreams before danger catches up with the pair of them which could see their dreams destroyed before they have even had a chance to begin? Find out in Book #1 of the Barrett Boys by Jordan Ford. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series as I would love for Michael and all his brothers to be reunited again after all these years separated.

Holy criminey this book was good. For a while now I have been in a reading slump, and I think this is just what I needed. Annie and Michael’s relationship was so heartwarming that it made me gush whenever they were in the same scene. Their combined love for Jackson was absolutely amazing. This book reminded me a lot of the play Waitress, and throughout the whole thing I had the soundtrack on repeat through my head. Full of vibrant descriptions and heart crushing words this story will enrapture you and leave you wishing for more. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book. January seems too far.

This was such a pleasurable, surprising 5 star read for me. The Runaway drew me in, swept me up in the emotional angst, made me swoon with the sweet, clean YA/Contemporary romance, and held my attention with the "back story" of all five of the Barrett Boys eventually coming back together.

The Runaway was about 20 year old Michael and 18 year old Annie. Michael comes from an unpleasant background and is on the run from some bad guys. Annie is living with her abusive stepfather and working her butt of to try to escape the judgmental town with her younger brother, Jackson. When Michael comes into town and passes out from a wound in the diner, Annie knows in her gut and hearts she has to help him.

What follows is a poetically beautiful story about overcoming obstacles, standing strong against tyranny (a bit dramatic lol), and experiencing young love. Michael is the broody, quiet night and Annie is the outspoken, brilliant day. Dusk and dawn, the two are drawn to each other and the sweetest romance blossoms.

Through painful experiences, lies, truths, drama, a bit of action, a CRAZY climax, and a fulfilling conclusion that leads into the next story, The Runaway was a pleasant surprise that has me very eager for the rest of the series.

I loved this book. I mean, ok, there was insta love. And yes, the characters made some stupid decisions. Not to mention that this was super stereotypical. Regardless of all of that, this book hooked you right off the bat. I was up way later than I meant to be, because I got dragged into the "one more chapter" cycle. What a lie...

Anyway! This book follows Annie, a waiter in a small town with an abusive stepfather, who is just waiting to make enough to free her from the town. On the other hand, we have Michael, who got involved in bad business, and grabbed a bag of money and ran. He ends up in Annie's diner, and this is the tale of their love

Sound like every other romance book? Probably because it was pretty darn similar. This wasn't just innovative enough to keep me hooked. Ford definitely has perfect the art of making her writing addictive, because as soon as I finished it, I was wanting the next one. The plot, although character driven, was pretty steady the entire time, and no big twists derailed it. That was fine though, I kind o like doing the predictability.

Ok, so the main thing that drove this book was the romance. I loved Michael and Anna together, but I do wish that their relationship had been developed a bit more at the beginning. As soon as Michael and Anna met, it was love. That made the beginning kind of harder for me to get in to, but I forgot that problem pretty fast.

As a result of their insta love, some of Anna's decisions were a bit illogical. Just after meeting random guy, who has been shot, she invites him into her house. It was necessary for the story, and it added a lot of tension, it was just a bit illogical.

I actually really liked the ending of this. It was what I was expecting in some ways, but I love how it sets up for the next book. In some ways, I'm kind of disappointed to get this as an arc, because now I just have that much longer to wait for the next book. After all that, is definitely recommend this for romance fans!

I really enjoyed this book! I thought the writing style was great and I felt like the words flowed nicely. I like that the story was told through the multiple perspectives of the main characters, Annie and Michael. Annie is a strong character with a troubled home life and a mouth that gets her into trouble more often than not. Her world is changed the night Michael shows up at the diner she works at when he's passing through town. He passes out at closing time from the loss of blood from a bullet wound and Annie helps him get patched up and gives him a place to recover. There are many secrets uncovered throughout the course of the book, and the relationship that blossoms between Annie and Michael is great. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

The Runaway is a fun and angsty book about young 20 yo Michael who has had a tough life. He has gotten involved with a group of gangsters but regrets his decision. He makes a run for it and ends up in Buckland Falls, Oklahoma, where he meets Annie, a young waitress, who has had a tough life of her own.

This book is a clean YA romance with a lot of angst. The relationship between Michael and Annie seems to progress quickly and emotionally. They have many people against them but are two very strong characters.

I would like to give this book four stars for incredible writing and an engaging plot.

You’re telling me this doesn’t even come out until November and then I’m going to have to wait for book 2? Ugh.

This was such a great story. The characters were amazing and the plot line was so perfect. This was so incredibly well written and kept me hooked throughout the whole book. I can not wait for more in the second one.

The Runaway is a great start to the Barrett Boys series! Michael and Annie's story captured my attention from page one and had the perfect amount of action and suspense throughout.

I loved the teaser at the end. I can't wait to read The Fighter (Barrett Boys #2) to see what kind of trouble Deeks has gotten into!

If you like 'bad boy with a secret heart of gold' stories, you'll love this.

The Runaway is a well-written small town romance. It hits all the story beats you'd expect it to. Boy with tragic past meets girl with tragic present. He's nicer than he looks. She's tougher than she looks. Love ensues. All in all, Ford executes it perfectly.

My few issues would be the speed our protagonists fall in lust. The book doesn't trust you to figure out that they're attracted to each other so we get a lot of "he/she's just so beautiful!" before they even interact and well before they go from friends to more than friends.

I also personally wish we ended the story a tad earlier but I get that showing the story well past the plots climax is a hallmark of romance so if this is your genre, you'll probably love how the ending plays out.
