A nice return to the Isle of Synne with a newly named Duke, Quincy Nesbitt and Lady Clara Ashford.

Quincy was a knight in shining armor to Clara and he somehow had a heart of gold being raised by a mother who despised him. Clara was a great match and was very deserving of the love he bestowed on her.

My only pet peeves were that Quincy’s mother didn’t seem to get what she deserved (got off easy) and what happened to the ring that meant so much to Clara. Did I miss something?

The romance was good but the heat level was a bit on the mild side.

The time span of the epilogue was wonderful and heartwarming. It was a good story and I look forward to more from Christina Britton.

Christina Britton's "Someday My Duke Will Come" is heartwarming. This is the second book I have read written by her and I am sure it won't be the last. She has a way of transporting her readers into her books and letting them experience every action and emotion. Quincy and Clara's love story is one for the record books: their emotional connection, their unconditional love, their unbeknownst to them history, all come full circle for a HEA.

4/5 stars!

The second in the Isle of Synne series features Lady Clara Ashford and Quincy Nesbitt as they enter a fake engagement that ends up with the, falling in love. But said road to love is not without obstacles, namely a disapproving mother, the heroine's past, and the hero's internal struggles in his newfound role as the Duke of Reigate.

Considering that the couple is really close to the hero of the first book, the group of secondary characters that encompassed their tight family unit makes a wonderful supportive cast as both Clara and Quincy faced internal and external struggles throughout the book. The story was deeply emotional and the happily-ever-after a much-deserved outcome for the couple after what they went through. I actually enjoyed reading this book a tad better than the first book of the series and I look forward to more Christina Britton's books in the future.

**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.**

Christina Britton should be a must read for any lover of historical romance. Clara and Quincy's story is a story about two bruised souls who heal each other. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. This book will tough the reader and will have them rooting for Clara and Quincy.

What a wonderful take on the fake engagement trope. Clara was such a real, multi-dimensional character. You really rooted for her and empathized with her. Quincy was also very well written and you empathized with him as well. The plot, though familiar, had enough unique twists and turns to make it fresh and engaging. This is one of the better Regency romance novels I’ve seen this year. I would highly recommend this book to my patrons.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

Lady Clara Ashford has dedicated her life to looking after her siblings, following the death of her mother as a teenager. Now that her younger sister, Phoebe, is engaged, and wedding preparations are in full swing, Clara is thinking about her future. As the eldest daughter of the Lake Duke of Dane, she should be happily married by now, but an incident during her teenage years has left her apprehensive. When Quincy Nesbitt returns home to England, to see his good friend, Peter, the current Duke of Dane, he has to face his own past. The youngest son of the Duke of Reigate, he never once imagined he would inherit, but in the time he has been exiled from home, his three elder brothers have died, but not without squandering the wealth the duchy once held. Now he needs to marry, but he will do anything he can to get away from his wicked mother, and the woman she's planned for him. Both Quincy and Clara have an attraction, and to help one another, they decide to pretend to the world that they are engaged, to keep both families off their backs, but soon it seems as if the only people who don't know it's real, are they themselves.

I read book 1, A Good Duke Is Hard to Find, at the very start of lock down, and it reignited my love of historical romances, and I've now read 120+ since then. I remember being intrigued by both Quincy and Clara, so having their own story on paper was a joy to read. Clara was a lovely character, who had suffered a lot in her past, and now held herself away from anyone else so as not to get hurt again. She only wants to help, and is running herself ragged to make sure Phoebe's wedding is absolutely perfect. Everyone around her does care for her, but it's only Quincy who forces her to take time for herself, and relax. Their chemistry, and friendship before they grew to more, was outstanding, and it was a true partnership, who could rely on each other at any time. Quincy's childhood wasn't the best either, with his mother utterly despising him, and his brother's being distant. It was only his father who he was close to, and when he died, and his remaining family wanted to ship him off to the navy, he ran away himself, and never returned, until now. And when he discovers he's inherited, and his mother is just as bad as she always was, other secret's come to play, and Quincy needs someone more than ever. All in all, this book was everything I wanted, and I can't wait for Christina's next book!

I am really enjoying reading a historical romance that is taking place outside of London. The Isle of Synne clearly has a lot of interesting stories to tell! Clara is the oldest daughter of the Duke of Danesford. She has experience so much loss in her life - both of her parents and her brother - and <spoiler> a stillborn birth</spoiler>. Her mother died when she was very young - and she seems to have almost entirely taken on raising her younger sister. She grew up very fast and not without a lot of pain. As a result - she is the go-to person for everyone and takes very little time for herself. With her sister getting married, she feels at a loss of what to do next.

Quincy is the fourth son of the Duke of Reigate. After his father died, Quincy heard his mother planning to enlist him in the Navy. He took the choice out of her hands and ran away. He worked for his passage to America and made his way. He made a lot of money in the shipping business with his best friend, who is now the current Duke of Danesford. Having sold that business, he is back in England before leaving to see the world. He finds out quickly that his three older brothers have all died - and he has extremely unexpectedly inherited the Dukedom and an enormous pile of debt.

Quincy and Clara had a connection when they met in the previous book - but didn't pursue it. As quickly as Quincy finds out he is a Duke, he also finds hi mother is determined for him to marry his older brother's former fiancé. He quickly embarks on a fake engagement with Clara to avoid that.

A lot happens in this book to set Quincy on a path to saving the dukedom - but the bulk of the story deals with Clara coming to grips with her past and sharing her pain with her family and the ones she loves. It is a lovely story - but you do have to be comfortable with Clara's kind of heartbreak. Which is so very very sad. I can't imagine how she dealt with it completely on her own for so many years. It is no wonder it has taken her 15 years to recover enough to even consider a new relationship.

There is one thing that did bother me about this book and it plays a pretty big role in the end of the story. <spoiler> Quincy is actually illegitimate. His mother was the true love of the prior Duke's life. She insisted he be raised as a legitimate son. Which is tragic in and of itself - to have lost out on a mother who clearly loved him, is just extremely sad. BUT by perpetuating it - he is really stealing the title from his cousin and perpetuating a really bad thing his father did - but never expected to happen. There are lots of semi-legitimate children that ended up inheriting - but the fact that Quincy knows about it and lets it continue - feels pretty dishonest - which is weird because he doesn't even want it. Even if he does save everything with his money. It kind of feels like he's buying it. His cousin clearly didn't want anything to do with the debt ridden title - so I guess there is that. But still - its the principle of it.</spoiler>

Overall - I liked this entry into the series and hope to see more!

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

Someday My Duke Will Come by Christina Britton is the 2nd book in Isle of Synne series. I loved the first book, A Good Duke is Hard to Find, so I was excited to see another book featuring secondary characters from the previous: Quincy friend and former business partner to Peter Ashford and Lady Clara Ashford cousin to the Duke. Quincy returns to England after closing up loose ties from the many successful business ventures that he and Peter had created to start off his transcontinental travels. Before he can set off, he faces the looming black cloud of saying hello to his abysmal mother (sorry I have to say it) and finds out not only is she still heartless but that his older brothers are no longer alive and he is now being given the title Duke of Reigate. He is overwhelmed, stunned, and not at all happy with this predicament. Through all of this he runs into Clara whom has her own battles. She is feeling the pressure to find a match (gasp she is over 30!!!!), especially now that her younger sister Phoebe is getting married in a few weeks. Instant attraction occurs between the two despite their initial efforts, and through a bait and switch when Quincy is attempting to dodge an unwanted arranged engagement from his family, they join forces and enter into their own “engagement”. What started off as cloak and dagger, becomes real passion, devotion, and love. Can Clara and Quincy overcome their many obstacles and find true happiness with themselves as well as with one another? One must read to find out. Trust me, the journey is well worth it.

I love this series. The characters are complex, smart, funny, witty, and entertaining. I enjoyed the plot, the realistic obstacles, and the chemistry between Quincy and Clara. I loved visiting Peter, Lenora, and the family again. I started the book guessing how it would end, but that is what I wanted: love conquering all.

I really am enjoying this series and I look forward to the next book.

What a sweet story! Clara is the oldest sister who has spent her life taking care of her father and her siblings after her mother’s death. Her sister, Phoebe, is to be married, and everyone is in London to plan various entertainments. Enter Quincy, best friend to the Duke cousin with whom they are staying. Clara and Quincy met a year ago at the dukes wedding and they were both intrigued with each other. Now Quincy has returned from Boston to discover that he is now a Duke! There are twists and turns, and secrets and surprises. Such a lovely read as Clara and Quincy find their HEA.
