It’s hard to see a smile when wearing a mask. But masks keep us healthy. This book gives all the fun reasons to wear a mask and how the wearer can use them to express themselves. It was quite clever and the illustrations are the fluffy cotton candy style that matches the wording perfectly. The only complaint I have is that the author tries to rhyme, but there is no cadence. The rhyming is just smit and smat throughout the book.

First, I love the cover of this book. It is bright and pastel and inviting, and the dog and masks are super cute. The rhyming really drew me into the story, and each page has bright pictures with different masks that people can wear to show off their personalities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This book was written for such a time as this... COVID 19 is here! It explains to kids the importance of wearing a mask! For some kids the masks cause confusion and sometimes they feel scary as people in their immediate world have covered up their faces.

The book highlights in a very fun way the adventurous side of masking up. It unveils the many different styles of masks available and the places they can and should be worn. It opens up the perfect segue to discuss and assure small kids that masks are both friendly and very interesting.

The fabulous watercolour illustrations are soft and tender animating the rhyming text. "Remember to Smile" is a 300 word picture book starring an adorable wiener dog that will encourage children to be more comfortable wearing a mask. The message is reassuring and encourages kids to choose a mask that is unique just like they are. The book not only is instructive and calming for the present, but will be a wonderful reminder long after this dreaded virus has left... reiterating 2020 as being the year of the mask. I highly recommend it.

I'm immediately interested in any book with a dachshund on the cover! What a smart little doxie this one is, and quite fashionable too. This book teaches the importance of wearing a mask to protect yourself and others from germs. It makes wearing a mask fun and appealing.

This is the perfect book for young children during this Covid 19 times. It is a sweet rhyming book that discusses everywhere you need to wear a mask. It shows various colors and decorative masks. I know that little kids are sometimes afraid of people wearing a mask or going outside their homes right now and this book might help take some of the fear away from them. The illustrations are beautiful watercolor drawings.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Remember to smile is a beautiful children's picture book that tries to reassure children during covid19 about wearing masks.
Wearing a mask, for a child, can be very scary and uncomfortable. Children read facial expressions a lot and people walking around in masks must seem very daunting to them. This book tries to make wearing a mask more fun and normalises mask wearing for them too by adding colour and inspiration.
A fantastic book for young children with poetic rhyming too.

In the age of Covid-19, Remember to Smile is a very relevant book for children regarding wearing masks. This time can be confusing and scary for children to process the importance and need to wear masks, but this book provides an opportunity for children to see masks as helpful, fun, and exciting. While reading the story, children can become more comfortable seeing people wearing masks and wearing masks themselves as well.

I definitely enjoyed the colorful and engaging illustrations, but struggled with the overall flow / storyline of the book. It jumps around from real-life, relatable times to wear a mask (inside, outside, on a scooter, etc) and then jumps to mermaids, superheroes, and dragons wearing masks. As a kindergarten teacher, I understand that children LOVE mermaids, superheroes, and dragons but, in my opinion, mixing those into the book creates a confusion between fiction and non-fiction. If the book wants to include these aspects, that's okay - I just wish it was organized in a more logical order in the book. Also, I did struggle with the fact that there wasn't a lot of diversity amongst the characters in the book.

Overall, the story was cute, silly, and relevant (for the most part).

Normalizing Mask Wearing for Kids

This is an adorably illustrated book that seeks to help children be more comfortable wearing masks. The book makes it sound like it could be so much fun to find your unique style of mask as well as enjoy a variety of types. The book ends on a note of hope as well, stating that we won't have to always wear masks. I also like the positive title of the book. Even if you wear a mask, people will know you're smiling when they see it reach your eyes! I particularly loved the illustrations, especially the little cute dog that kept showing up. The color palette isn't bright. It is mostly luminous pastels that I find soothing. If you have a child who is struggling with having to wear a mask at times, this book could help them see it in a new light or at least open it up as a topic for discussion.

This is a silly book about a very serious thing happening in our world right now. It’s a light way to talk to kids about wearing their masks and why it’s fun to do! The illustrations are cute too- very girly. Though the words don’t make sense chronologically, they do have some good examples of real and make believe characters wearing their masks.

Absolutely adorable and I love that it explains the current events at a level that little kids will understand how important it is to be safe.

I'm not a supporter of the mask nonsense and I don't make my kids wear them, but its a cute story for making them feel a bit more comfortable with them. The illustrations are gorgeous though!

Remember to Smile is a very cute book that may help children transition into mask wearing in this difficult time in. With the very colorful pages, it keeps the child's attention while they listen to the words they can imagine their unique style of mask they would like. Remember to Smile is suitable for all ages and genders. This kept my kids entertained while telling them it is okay to have to wear a mask for a little while.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars, I was more interested in the rhyming sentences as that was when my kids were most interested but I felt that the rhyming did not flow through the book at times. Still a good book to read to your kids.

I love the artwork and the concept of this book! It is really cute and I can see a lot of kids liking the pictures and the message. The actual writing/story itself was just okay.

So cute! Can't wait to share it with my daughter. She likes to wear masks like momma and dadda but it still isn't easy for her because it is a big change.

Thank you NetGalley for a chance to see and review this book!

Mask wearing can be hard for kids and there is not a lot of fun to associate with them.
This cute, beautifully colored picture book allows kids to imagine not what their mask closes them off from, but what it opens them up to do. Some of the rhymes do feel forced - but that can lend to a fun read aloud.
The only hang up I would have is the book advising Dragons to not wear masks, as that is my school mascot and I often refer to my students as "Dragons" I guess I can tell them it is a good thing we are not the fire-breathing type. Overall, this is an imaginative way to lessen kids anxiety about mask wearing.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

This would be a great book for preschool kids. It shows how wearing a mask is now normal and how you can have a mask that helps you express who you are. I was hoping that it would be good for older kids too and explain how masks protect ourselves and others. Regardless, this will normalize mask wearing for kids between 2 and 5.

With COVID-19 hitting the world this book helps kids remember to wear a mask. It's colorful artwork and the rhyming text turns mask-wearing into a fun expression of our inner self instead of a chore we have to do. It would be a great read-aloud for kids of all ages.
The one reservation I have is about the mask that Artie wears. I feel it is important for children to be aware that a dirty mask is unhealthy and this page gives the wrong message.
