It is easy to overload yourself with everything you hear about the corona virus (COVID-19) at the moment. It is also understandable for your children to be upset. It is difficult for children to understand what they are watching on the Internet or on television - or listen to other people speaking - so they may be particularly vulnerable to anxiety, stress and sadness. Also, it is difficult for children to accept that the world as they know it is changing because of a pandemic. They are not even aware of the importance of wearing protective masks, nor of the protocols and safety guidelines

Remember to Smile by Shannon Q. McDonald, a children's book that guides children through a series of ideas and places where they should wear the mask in a possible pictorial and instructive way. The mask is presented as something interesting and beautiful to wear, something that should be interesting for them to wear, and not as a restraint that limits them.

Carefully chosen words, whole sentences as well as gentle illustrations can significantly influence the motivation of children to look at the book, and to be able to understand the content and message of the book. The book is a more than a great prompt for parents all around the world.

Absolutely loved this little story - it completely normalises the fact that most of us need to wear a mask now, but it's done in a fun way.
The illustrations were very pretty - and very colourful.

A wonderfully bright and fun book about wearing masks that is needed! It is simple in its rhymes and makes mask-wearing something fun and not to be feared. Picking out masks can be a way to show your personality and it’s something that is temporary. The dog is adorable!

Silly, rhyming text bring home the lesson that we all have to wear masks (at least these days) - except dragons! They definitely should not! The words are sometimes flimsy, with more focus seemingly put into the rhyming than making sense. Preschoolers will get a kick out of the giggle-inducing words, but I fell in love with the illustrations. Soft watercolors bring the words to life, with the adorable dog being the clear star of this book!

This book has delightfully cheerful illustrations. It is very much a book for our time as it normalizes wearing face masks. The text is rhyming with many different fun masks featured. This title is a wonderful resource for parents of young children. Let’s hope that it will help everyone to keep a mask on!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
