In times like these, we need some simple warmth, and "Thoughts of Dog" fits the bill. It's always a balancing act for an author to take an animal's point of view, without sounding precious. Nelson succeeds here, by giving Dog a voice that is both pragmatic and kind. The illustrations and text are simple enough for a young reader, while giving this admittedly soft hearted adult a nice lift.

For all but the most cynical, this is a good quick read while cuddling with your "stuffed fren" (words of dog) during social distancing.

This was such an adorable book. It seem like is intended for kids, I thought otherwise when I pick it but I don't regret choosing it. It was beautiful. I loved the art, it was as adorable as the text on it. So much fun and with a few bittersweet moments. I particularly liked the story about the visit to the shelter. I would love to share this stories with anyone I know who shares my love for dogs. It made me smile the whole time. It brighten up my day and I would love to share the joy it gave me. So much recomended.

This was the book I didn't know I needed. I love Thoughts of a Dog on Twitter and when I saw that there was a book, I instantly requested to read it on Netgalley. Thoughts of a Dog follows a sweet dog and his stuffed "fren," Sebastian through different situations, from going to the beach to sending Sebastion to work with the human.

This book is adorable. The illustrations are so cute. The stories are cute. I teared up at the story of the dog becoming friends with the mailman. I loved everything about this sweet book. It's perfect for any dog lover!

I was provided with a copy of Thoughts of Dog by Matt Nelson in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

As a dog momma myself, I see these behaviours and gestures in my own dogs, and I’d like to think this is the way their pure, kind and selfless minds and hearts work.

As Josh Billings once said, “A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” …
And I do believe that to be true.

And this short but incredibly sweet and to the point illustrated book demonstrates that exactly.

I loved the thoughts, the artwork and the entire book overall. If you’re portraying a dog’s character and thoughts in this manner, it can only have a positive outcome.

I recommend this book to all dog lover and dog parents, because it’s very heartwarming and comforting.

Having just lost one of my own dogs, my beautiful Noa, not even 2 weeks ago, and being heartbroken, this short book brought me some comfort and tears, but all in a good way. It brought back all the memories of how much she loved her toys, how much she enjoyed showing them to me and bringing them to me when I was feeling down, and then also sharing them with our other dogs.

Dogs have a sense of compassion that goes beyond what any human is capable of in my honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this in advance.

I'm a longtime fan of Thoughts of Dog on social media, and I greatly enjoyed this cute little gift book about Dog and his "fren" Sebastian.

I am a dog lover/owner and I follow the twitter accounts @dog_rates and @dog_feelings and I absolutely love those accounts. So as soon as I saw that a book was coming out based on the Thoughts of Dog account, I was like – I’m reading that!

The Thoughts of Dog twitter account has random thoughts from the dog, who frequently mentions his stuffed fren Sebastian. The dog is loving and sweet and pure and the way he talks will be understood immediately by a dog lover. The Thoughts of Dog book has not just thoughts, but adventures of the dog with his stuffed fren Sebastian accompanied by adorable illustrations.

This book is a perfect gift to buy for a dog lover, young or old, and a great thing to read in difficult times, to immerse yourself into the simpler world and infinitely wise head of a dog.

Note: I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read and review Thoughts of Dog. Very cute for any dog lover. I wasn’t aware of Matt Nelson’s social media accounts about dogs. I am a new fan and I am following.

This book is absolutely precious. I've never been a dog person, and I don't follow either social media account that this author runs, but I decided to read this to see if it would be a good gift idea for my younger sister. It is, and I also hugely enjoyed it. The dog is adorable, and because his "stuffed fren Sebastian" is a major character, I related to all of the stories and humor about stuffed animal ownership. It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood.

I'm not sure if this book is primarily designed for children or adults, but it is appropriate for any reader. The illustrated stories are all short and simple, such that an elementary-aged child could read them independently, but they are also so fun and relatable that adults will enjoy them as well. Of course, this book is most geared towards people who love dogs, but I enjoyed it tremendously after having only had three or four meaningful canine attachments throughout my life, and people don't have to be a Thoughts of Dog social media fan to find this delightful. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read something charming, wholesome, and sweet.

If you have ever seen the Twitter account "Thoughts of Dog", you will love this book. Even if you haven't seen the Twitter account, you'll still fall in love with the dog, the stuffed elephant, and the human. This book presents different scenarios from the dog's perspective that any dog lover can relate to. The illustrations are great! Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for this early review copy. Our whole family really enjoyed it!

This book is a bunch of super cute vignettes about a dog and his positive happy thoughts about the world. It's exactly the type of book everyone needs in 2020. The illustrations are really lovely. There were several laugh out loud moments and others which tugged at my heart strings as a dog lover. The Halloween section was my favorite! I want to buy this book for all of my dog loving family and friends!

Not how I’d interpret my dogs thoughts. Very poor grammar but large vocabulary. Weird timid tendencies from the dog.

I love dogs. I love reading books with dogs and watching movies that feature dogs.
This is such a cute & quick read. Each story talking about Dog's "fren" Sebastian and his human friends - stories of beach day, movie night, Sebastian goes to work and even the mailman. I was almost in tears with the last story. Cute puppy dialog and drawings makes this is a fun little read that literally took me minutes to read with my puppy curled up beside me. My daughter who is 13 read it and loved it also. This would make a great gift for a coffee table read.

I give this a 5 out of 5 stars.

Full disclosure: you could say I'm a fan and I could not support the opposite argument. I follow Thoughts of Dog on Twitter and WeRateDogs on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and I like all their posts that I come across because they're all good dogs, Brent. This cartoon version of Thoughts of Dog is a very good dog indeed. He helps build a snowman, reviews movies, visits the beach, saves a pumpkin, loans his stuffed fren sebastian to another dog who is afraid of the sky booms, comforts a mailman... The illustrations are adorable, and the dog is a hero. 14/10.

I got a digital review copy from Netgalley and this is me voluntarily gushing because I was so happy to find this book.

Read about Dog and his stuffed fren Sebastian as they experience snow and meet the mailman and go on a trip to the beach and have other adventures. A great reminder for us humans to similarly immerse ourselves in every moment and find joy in it. The illustrations are understated but effective. Highly recommended for dog lovers especially those who need a quick pick-me-up. Follow @dog_feelingsig and @weratedogs (if you haven’t yet) for more quality dog content.

I was expecting a light-hearted book of little sketches featuring a human's interpretation on, well, the thoughts of a dog... And that is in a nutshell what this book is.
The only problem is that I was expecting them to be funny and they weren't all that funny. I was expecting them to be super sweet but they were a bit blah (except the one about the Mail Man. That almost had me in tears.) However, they were super relatable if you've lived with dogs even if the representation of all the doggy-isms was pretty basic.
The entire book read like a series of sketches that wouldn't be out of place in a kid's picture book only they occasionally use vocabulary that would be a little advanced for 3-5 year olds, like benevolently.
I guess you could call this a book for all ages of dog lovers... It just falls short for me in that the stories aren't all that entertaining for adults. *shrug*
